Deceiving ourselves about Doing

1. We merely agree – We think we are obeying God’s word just because we understand it and agree with it.

2. We obey selectively – We think we obey God’s word, but we really just apply it in areas we think are important (and good at).

The Perfect Law of Liberty James 1:25

Now (since Christ) God empowers us to obey His word through freedom (grace)

See 2 Corinthians 3:13-18; Romans 8:1-4 Our “duty” under the Old “Law” can

become our “desire” under the New “Law” (Grace).

“Doers of the Word” want to please God

(2 Corinthians 5:9) So we make it our goal to please him…

(Colossians 1:10) … that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,

(1 Thessalonians 2:4) We are not trying to please men but God…

(1 Thessalonians 4:1) We instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more.

Widows, Orphans and Others in need

GOD (Psalms 68:5) A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.

US (Isaiah 1:17) Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.
