Key migration considerations first
9
• Unlike the last two releases, there are no key migration considerations, other than those in place before V4.1. That is,
• N, N-1 co-existence is supported
• GDPS 4.2 does however need pre-req APARs installed before you migrate the first system to 4.3 –check the PSP!
• We do however recommend not running in a mixed release configuration for long periods
• New functions typically require all systems to be at the new release level before being exploited
• Exceptions exist
• We test by updating K-sys, then P-sys
• Alternate K-sys first, then Master

Jan 7th 2020 DS8K announcement re: z/OS Global Mirror
10
IBM z/OS® Global Mirror support
For decades IBM has offered two asynchronous replication strategies, IBM z/OS Global Mirror (also known as
extended remote copy) and IBM DS8000® Global Mirror. Today, the majority of IBM clients are using or
migrating to Global Mirror. The IBM DS8900F family will be the last platform to support z/OS Global Mirror.
There will not be any new z/OS Global Mirror functions provided with IBM DS8900F, and new functions to
support asynchronous replication technology will be developed only for Global Mirror. z/OS Global Mirror will
continue to be supported and maintained on z/OS with its current function only.
• Existing DS8K XRC support is functionally stabilized
• GDPS and z/OS will continue to support XRC clients while running on hardware supporting XRC
• GDPS is offering a like-for-like supported license exchange program at no additional charge to enable clients to transition from XRC to GM (including MzGM to MGM)

PMT is back!
35
• New PMT V5.1.0 is GDPS V4 only and will be made available for 4.1, 4.2 (PH21769) and 4.3
• Shipped as part of GDPS code distribution as compiled REXX – no source provided
• Issues and questions can be submitted via GDPS support cases
• Partly integrated with GDPS DASD Config process
• Main function remains the simplification of the process to add or delete device pairs from the GDPS Metro configuration and minimize mirroring/HyperSwap NOK
• Initial support for add/delete of pairs in MM2SITE plus GDPS Metro in MGM3SITE, MGM4SITE, MZGM3SITE and MZGM4SITE topologies for the CKD consistency group only
• Support for changes to FBA group, changes in multiple groups within a consistency group and the MM3SITE topology are also planned
• DataMigrationMode=YES is not (currently) supported.
• Prior versions of PMT can still be used for this purpose in a non-MT set up.
