The abbreviation “EON” stands for Enhan-ced Other Networks, which means that in-formation is exchanged within a radio net-work.Many FM radio stations provide their ser-vice area with traffic messages at regularintervals.Along with their programmes, all traffic pro-gramme stations transmit a special carriersignal, which is decoded by your car radio. If this signal is identified, “TP” will appear inthe display (Traffic Programme). In addition to these, there are also stationswhich do not actually transmit traffic infor-mation themselves, but by using RDS-EONit is possible for them to forward the trafficmessages broadcast by another traffic pro-gramme station in the same radio network. If you want to have the priority for trafficannouncements activated while listening toone of these stations (e.g. NDR3), “TA” mustappear on the display panel. If a traffic announcement is broadcast, theradio will automatically switch to the linkedtraffic programme station (in this case,NDR2) for the duration of the message andreturn to the original programme (NDR3)afterwards.

Setting the equalizer

The acoustic characteristics of the car in-terior affect the quality of the sound repro-duced in your vehicle to a much greater ex-tent than the speakers.

Position, installation and the rear volumesof, for example, the door or rear windowshelf all play an important role.

Even the sound produced by well selectedand installed speakers can be affected ne-gatively by the resonance in the vehicle in-terior.

As a result, the bass sounds may be lost orreverberate, the mid-range tones sound toooverpowering and music instruments orvoices may be distorted or the total soundquality may be completely lifeless.

The overall sound quality can be greatlyenhanced if certain frequencies are suppres-sed or boosted.

This car audio system is equipped with one(Biarritz RDM 169, Sevilla RDM 168) or two(Acapulco RDM 168) parametric filters. Thefirst filter “LOW EQ” can be set from 32 to500 Hz, the second filter “HIGH EQ” from630 to 10,000 Hz. In this context, parame-tric means that it is possible to set the fre-quency and either boost or reduce it (+10 to–20 dB) individually for each of these filters.

These parametric filters can be adjusted tovery exact settings even without the help ofmeasuring instruments.

The individual steps you have to take tomake these settings are described in thefollowing table.

Notes on making the settings

The following notes are intended as recom-mendations only. They do not necessarilyreflect your own personal sound prefe-rences.

We recommend that you use a music CDyou are familiar with to make the settings. The CD should include tracks with differentinstruments and vocals. Purely electronicmusic is not well suited to serve as a basisfor making the settings because the originalsounds cannot be determined.

Before you set the equalizer, set bass, treb-le, balance and fader to “0” and switch theLoudness function off, if necessary.

This setting is described in the Quick Refe-rence under AUD.

Now listen to the CD you have selected.

Evaluate the sound according to your ownpersonal preferences.

Now refer to “Sound impression/problem” inthe table and you will find suggestions toeliminate any problems under “What to do”.

The “HIGH EQ” and “LOW EQ” filters canbe set in the “DSC” menu:

• Press “DSC”. Press / as often asnecessary until “HIGH EQ” or “LOWEQ” appears in the display.

• Press << or >> once and set the levelin the following table by pressing / .

• Press << >> to switch the frequencyrange.

• Press “DSC” to store your settings. You can switch the equalizer on and off inthe “DSC” menu using the “EQ ON” or “EQOFF” option.

Now you can compare the sound producedby your car stereo with or without the equa-lizer.
