Expand your knee arthroplasty surgical skills Build and refine your surgical skills and clinical decision making for primary and/or revision total
knee arthroplasty. Focus your learning on a range of important TKA issues as you engage with faculty in the lab.
Gain a thorough view of knee reconstruction surgery – with an emphasis on joint replacement, potential complications, and relevant treatment options. Delve into the management of the complex knee patient, including infection, extensor mechanism disruption, and instability.
New this year, hear case-based discussion and decision-making tactics for monocompartmental arthritis. Debate the pros and cons of navigation, custom and standard instrumentation. Address key surgical techniques, including flexion and extension gap balancing and measured resection.
Course highlights:• Proven tips to avoid and manage complications
• Key decision-making strategies in the clinic and operating room
• Work side by side with expert faculty and panel members
Who should take this course?General orthopaedic surgeons who perform primary partial and total knee arthroplasty and orthopaedic surgeons who specialize in adult knee reconstruction.
This course is designed to give you the knowledge and skills to:• Evaluate patients with arthritis and formulate a treatment plan considering partial versus total knee
arthroplasty
• Review anatomy, surgical approaches, and various knee joint exposure options for primary and revision knee arthroplasty
• Manage complications related to primary and revision total knee arthroplasty including instability and patellofemoral alignment
• Plan for revision total knee arthroplasty including identifying the optimal approach for cement removal and reconstruction
• Formulate strategies for managing bone loss and options for reconstructing the deficient distal femur and proximal tibia
• Diagnose and treat acute and chronic periprosthetic knee infections
How far will your skills advance in this course? Test yourself and find out! Before participating in a key surgical skills lab, complete the ‘Performance Checklist’ to evaluate yourself at each stage of the procedure. Evaluate yourself again after the lab to find out exactly how far you have progressed. This distinctive AAOS CME offering creates the opportunity to reflect upon and pursue your desired performance level. Participation is voluntary and results are confidential.
The Academy would like to thank the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons for the many contributions made by its members in the presentation of this program. The Academy
and orthopaedic specialty societies work together to provide orthopaedic surgeons with the highest quality educational programs and publications. This cooperative spirit among colleague
organizations is an important resource and valuable asset for the orthopaedic community.
