Unit Summary

Students will develop a travel brochure and a powerpoint presentation for a trip through Spain. They will find information on the historic sites, art, music, language, gastronomy and other cultural aspects of the various regions of Spain. Students will then determine which itinerary would best suit their interests and show the diversity of the regions chosen.

This project will help my students develop 21st century skills by:

Collaborating with peers.

Gathering and analyzing data in order to draw conclusions.

Solving problems and making decisions.

Communicating with others in a publication and presentation.

Assessment of Students

Prior to starting the unit, the students will complete a KWL Chart and participate in a discussion about their prior knowledge of Spain and its culture.

While working on the unit, students will complete a series of scheduled assignments. Classroom discussion, sharing of ideas and teacher observation will also be used to monitor progress.

Upon completion of the unit, students will produce a brochure and a power point presentation of their itinerary. Follow up discussions will be held about what new information was discovered and what prior knowledge was correct and /or incorrect.
