Third Sunday In Ordinary Time January 21, 2018

JMJ

January 21, 2018 My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always. I shared in a homily how I sat beside a very mature lady on the occasion of her birthday. She told me at one point that in her mind any day after she reached the age of 70 is already a bonus day for her. Then she gladly declared “I am now 80 years old!” She is grateful for the ten bonus years. This shows us her great attitude of gratitude as she approached the twilight of her years. Now, if we can take that principle and assign no number of years before we consider each day a bonus then it will not just be great but an excellent way to live each day. To consider each a day a present brings hope into any situation because we look forward positively to what the day can bring us and what we can bring to each day. This is one form of conversion that the Gospel this weekend is talking about and asking us practice in our lives. Converting each day into a blessing and challenge not as a burden. Our faith-life should be approached this way. Let these few weeks of ordinary time be the foundation on which we journey through the rest of the year. We are given numerous opportunities to strengthen our knowledge about our faith, deepen our relationship with the Spirit, build our fellowship with one another and practice our discipleship. All we have to do is look into the many invitations posted on the Bulletin Boards of Parish and Diocesan events. Then pray to what appeals to our hearts and where the Spirit is leading us.

“Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light.” This is quote I received from a priest-friend. Our Lord Jesus has constantly invited us to be His friend. He waits patiently at the Tabernacle for us to visit. He sends out the call to gather at the Eucharist, the Mass where we can be nourished and strengthened. Let us heed the call so that with Him always with us each day indeed will not just be a bonus but a gift. God bless and take care. Love and prayers,

Fr.

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

St. Vincent de Paul Special Collection January 27th and January 28th

On January 27th and 28th we are having a special collection for Santiago’s St. Vincent de Paul ministry. 100% of your generous donations help our parishioners and their families in financial need, within the church’s boundaries. Thank you for your generous support in the past. We cannot operate without you.

PASTORAL SERVICES APPEAL (PSA) 2018

Again, this year our diocese is providing opportunities for us to share our resources through the PSA “Proud to be Catholic, Know .Love . Serve” campaign. This annual campaign supports diocesan

ministries in many ways. Please look for a letter from Father Thomas in the mail during the first

week of February with information on the PSA. This year our Parish’s share of the costs of these

ministries is $128,000; donations received over that amount will be returned to the Parish for our

building fund needs. Please come to Mass on the weekend of February 17th and 18th and be prepared

to make your pledge and initial payment. Please prayerfully consider the amount of your pledge to the PSA. Together we are united in the Catholic

faith knowing that through your generosity many people will be served. Thank you for your

participation in the life of Santiago de Compostela and the Diocese of Orange.

Wills and Bequests

Please consider placing Santiago de Compostela Church in your Will so that your legacy might

continue through the important works and ministries of the parish. You or your estate planner can contact

the Orange Catholic Foundation at https://www.oc-foundation.org for information.

Please be sure to stipulate Santiago de Compostela Church in Lake Forest, California!

NURSING MOTHERS Breastfeeding, also known as nursing, is the normal way of providing young infants with the nutrients they need for healthy growth and development. Earlier this year, Pope Francis keeps

encouraging woman to nurse their children “You, mother, give milk to your children—even now, if they are crying with hunger, feed them, don’t worry. Let us thank the Lord for the gift of milk, and let us pray for those mother—there are so many, unfortunately—who are unable to breast-feed their children.” (Libreria Editrice Vaticana). For mothers who are nursing their children, they are encouraged to use the chapel for this matter during Mass times. We appreciate your cooperation.

The Council of Jerusalem was our first gathering of the Lead-

ers of the Church to resolve certain issues. Dissension existed between the church in Jerusalem and

Paul’s mission to the Gentile church. It is the model that the church follows in the present time with what we call Vatican

Councils. You are welcome to participate in Bible Study.

¡Bodas Comunitarias!
