Dear Community of St. Augustine, Bringing to a close our Lenten journey, the reading from the Gospel of St. John invites us to reflect on a very well-known passage of the Bible, the one of a woman caught in the act of committing adultery. Once again, this Gospel shows us the face of God – the face of Mercy – in Jesus. We are all sinners, we recognize that. We all want God’s forgiveness, we hope that. But are we willing to forgive? Are we like the scribes and the Pharisees or are we like Christ? How many stones do we throw? We are fast to condemn, to judge, to reproach, to accuse, to set traps on others… Jesus asks us to leave behind our sinful lives and teaches us that to forgive is the best medicine for the soul. Today, Jesus also says to us: “Neither do I condemn you. Go and do not sin anymore” (John 8:11). This Sunday, our elect will go through the third and final scrutiny, and we pray for her that her mind will be imbued with the sense of Christ, the Redeemer, who is the Resurrection and the Life; that she stays away from all sins, that the Lord will protect her, and that she will become a witness of Christ. Next weekend we will start the celebration of the mysteries of Jesus’s Passion, Death and Resurrection. I hope that, despite your busy schedule, you will be able to participate in our liturgies of the Paschal Triduum; the schedule is in this bulletin. Jesus awaits you; I am simply the carrier of the invitation He sends you. May our final days of Lent be filled with blessings!

Juan 8:7

“Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” John 8:7
