and inter operable as well as e)uipped to deal with the

network errors and faults. The network management providers

are in the process of developing standards that provide

interoperability among different management platforms. "uch

groups have presented several standards that provide fault

    tolerant network management capabilities.

&ost of these standards make use of &anagement !nformation

faulty. -n example of one such system is the one proposed and

implemented by Elias et.al. 516. the proposed system is based

    on "$&P '"imple $etwork &anagement Protocol by !ET%(

The network devices are probed 'checked repetitively(

after a specific interval configured by the "ystem

-dministrator. The "tatus Probe reports 9up:, 9down: or 9unreachable:;  for each device depending on the result

from the last probe. These events are reported to the

Event /ogging Engine for further processing and logging.

    Event /ogging Engine'

Event /ogging Engine checks the incoming events

generated by network probes. These events are

    categori+ed as k, Unknown, Warning and 0ritical

events indicating level of severity of device status. $ormal

events are logged into the database for historical

    4. Method of Analysis

To evaluate the performance and usability of our software

solution, we utili+ed software engineering methodologies and

techni)ues developed by $-"- and other companies that test

the complexity and suitability of softwares.

    5. Results

The result from our work is to attain a complete software solution that provide all the possible services to the network

operators administrators to locali+e and rectify the network

faults with ease and utili+es a single software solution to take

care of their network. This software will be provided with user

friendly interface and features to make it useful even in small

networks which are run by unprofessional end users.

    6. ConclusionWe presented an overview of our proposed %ault /ocali+ation

and 2ectification "ystem explaining its functional and

architectural features. -n effort has been made to highlight

the strengths of %/oc-2e in comparison with other

commercially available software. #eveloped on open source

architecture provided additional benefits of flexibility,

maintainability and further improvement by the public

    community.

. !uture "or#  -lthough %/oc-2e can identify and rectify the faults in

network components it may be further enhanced to provide

alternate routes or paths in the network to maintain end to end

    connectivity. &oreover mechanism for bottleneck

identification and 3itter minimi+ation may also be

incorporated to further extend its capabilities
