A Few of My Favorite Things: A Heart Mapping Activity
Heart mapping is not my original creation. It is an idea developed by author Georgia Heard. She writes about it in her book Awakening the Heart: Exploring Poetry in Elementary and Middle School. Read more about her at http://www.heinemann.com/authors/410.aspx.
This is simply my version of a heart mapping worksheet to make the process easier for my young students. It can be used as a beginning of the year activity to get to know one another. It would also be very useful as the first entry in a writing journal or notebook to help us out when we can’t think of a writing topic! I would create a large version on chart paper while my students create their heart maps.
