Master of Science in GIS & Remote SensingThe following shall be eligible for registration for the Master of Science in Geospatial

Information System and Remote Sensing (Master of Science in GIS and Remote Sensing):Either;

(a) A holder of at least an upper second class honors Bachelors degree of JKUAT ina spatial information based or associated field, OR

(b) A holder of at least a Second Class Honours (Upper Division), Bachelor of Science degree in relevant field,from any other institution recognized by the University Senate as being of equivalent academic status to (a)OR

Entry RequirementsApplicants should have a minimum of a second class honours (upper division) degree in Horticulture or relatedfields such as Agriculture or Botany from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, or anequivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture andTechnology Senate. Those with second class honours (Lower division) may be admitted if they have researchexperience. The program shall extend for at least two full academic years. The first year is devoted to courseworkand the second carrying out research project and writing thesis.

2. MSc. LANDSCAPE PLANNING AND CONSERVATION

Entry RequirementsApplicants should have a minimum of BSc. Second Class Honours (Upper division) degree in the areas ofHorticulture, Ornamental Science /Landscaping, Environmental Engineering , Landscape Architecture orany other related life and social science from an institution recognized by Jomo Kenyatta University ofAgriculture and Technology (JKUAT) senate, Or a second Class Honours (lower division) in any of the areasabove with relevant research experience; Or a have any other equivalent qualification recognized by the JKUATsenate.

PhD PLANT HEALTH SCIENCE AND MANAGEMENTEntry RequirementsThe applicants must have a MSc. degree in any of the following disciplines: Horticulture, Agronomy, Plantbreeding, Plant pathology, crop protection or other related sciences from institutions recognized by JKUATsenate. The programme is through research and thesis only but those deemed weak in certain areas may berequired to take certain predetermined course units.

B. FACULTY OF SCIENCE

Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Statistics

A holder of a Bachelors degree with at least Lower Second Class Honours, having studied Statistics as a single subject or asa major of two subjects studied at JKUAT or at any other University recognized by the Senate.

ORA holder of a quantitative degree, not necessarily in Statistics, with at least Lower Second Class Honours, from JKUAT orany other University recognized by the Senate, but with relevant work experience in Statistics. However, if an applicant’s

background in Statistics or Mathematics is insufficient, satisfactory audit of some undergraduate units as advised by theChairman may be required.

One Year Programme

MSc. in Applied StatisticsA holder of a Bachelors degree with at least Upper Second Class Honours, having studied Statistics as a single subject or asa major of two subjects studied at JKUAT or any other University recognized by the Senate.

ORA holder of a quantitative degree, not necessarily in Statistics, with at least Upper Second Class Honours, from JKUAT orany other University recognized by the Senate, but with work experience in Statistics. However, if an applicant’sbackground in Statistics or Mathematics is insufficient, satisfactory auditing of some units taught in the undergraduateprogramme may be required during the first year of study, as directed by the Chairman of the Department.

ORUnder exceptional circumstances a holder of a Bachelors degree with Lower Second Class Honours or its equivalent may beeligible for registration provided that the candidate can produce evidence of proven research ability in an appropriate branchof Statistics.

Two Years Programme

Ph.D in Statistics, Econometrics, Biostatistics and related areasA holder of a Masters Degree in the relevant area from JKUAT or any other University recognized by the Senate.

Three Years Programme

REGULATIONS FOR THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF SCIENCE IN APPLIED MATHEMATICS

1. Entry Requirements

The common regulations for all Masters degrees in the University shall apply.

The general regulations for all Masters degrees in the Faculty of Science and in the Department of Mathematics andStatistics shall apply. In particular, M. Sc 4.1 to 4.7, M. Sc.5.1 to 5.8, M. Sc. 6.1 to M. Sc 6.9, of the faculty regulations,shall apply for all examinations, and submission of project and thesis, and M. Sc 7.1 to 7.3, of these regulations shall applyfor award of the degree.

The following shall be eligible for registration for the degree of Master of Science in Applied Mathematics.

A holder of a Bachelors degree with at least Upper Second Class Honours, having studied Mathematics as a singlesubject or as a major of two subjects, with a substantial number of units of Applied Mathematics, studied at the degree levelat JKUAT or any other University recognized by the Senate.

Under exceptional circumstances a holder of a Bachelors degree with Lower Second Class Honours or its equivalentmay be eligible for registration provided that the candidate can produce evidence of proven research ability in AppliedMathematics.

In addition to meeting one of the requirements under 1.3 above, all students who are admitted to the course will beexpected to be proficient in at least one high level computer programming language.

The programme for Master of Science in Applied Mathematics comprises either coursework and project or courseworkand thesis.

The duration of study for the degree of Master of Science in Applied Mathematics shall be at least two (2) academicyears (18 months) and at most four (4) academic years (36 months) from the time of registration.

Entry Requirements

A holder of at least a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) degree having studied Biochemistry as a major or

regular subject, or in Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture, or in Food Science and Technology, or in Crop

Science, or in Agronomy or in Biotechnology, or others in Biological Sciences. Holders of Bachelor of Veterinary

Medicine, or Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, or Bachelor of Pharmacy are also eligible. A holder

of a Second Class Honours (Lower Division) Degree in Biochemistry combined with another relevant science

may under exceptional circumstances, be considered provided he/she produces evidence of having worked for at

least three years in Biochemistry or a closely related field.

MSc. Bioinformatics and Molecular Biology

Entry Requirements

A holder of at least a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) degree having studied Biochemistry or

Mathematics or Statistics or Computer Science or as a major or regular subject, or in Bachelor of Science degree

in Horticulture, or in Food Science and Technology, or in Crop Science, or in Agronomy or in Biotechnology, or
