Bless the Lord, O my soul: O Lord my God, Thou art exceedingly great.

Thou hast put on praise and beauty: and art clothed with Light as with a garment;

Who stretched out the heavens

like a pavilion; Who covers the higher rooms thereof with water; Who makes the clouds Thy Chariot; Who walks upon the wings of the winds

Who makes Thine Angels spirits:

and Thine Ministers a Burning Fire;

Who has founded the earth upon

its own bases: it shall not be moved forever and ever.

The deep, like a garment, is its clothing: above the mountains shall the waters stand.

At Thy rebuke they shall flee: at the Voice of Thy thunder they shall fear.

The mountains ascend, and the plains descend into the place which Thou hast founded for them.

Thou hast set a bound which they shall not pass over; neither shall they return to cover the earth.

Thou send forth springs in the vales: between the midst of the hills the waters shall pass.

All the beasts of the field shall drink: the wild asses shall expect in their thirst

Over them the birds of the air shall dwell: from the midst of the rocks they shall give forth their voices.

Thou waters the hills from Thine Upper Rooms: the earth shall be filled with the fruit of Thy Works: bringing forth grass for cattle, and herb for the service of men.

That Thou may bring bread out of the earth: and that wine may cheer the heart of mankind.

That he may make his face cheerful with oil: and that bread may strengthen his heart.

The trees of the field shall be filled, and in the cedars of Lebanon, which He has planted, the sparrows shall make their nests; the highest of them is the nest of the heron.

The high hills are a refuge for the deer, the rock for the hares.

He has made the moon for seasons: the sun knows its setting.

Thou hast appointed darkness, and it is night: in it shall all the beasts of the woods go about:

The young lions roaring after their prey, and seeking their meat from God.

The sun rises, and they are gathered together: and they shall lie down in their dens.

Man shall go forth to his work,

and to his labour until the evening.

How great are Thy Works, O Lord! Thou has made all things in Wisdom: The earth is filled with Thy Riches.

So is this great sea that stretches wide its arms: there are creeping things without number: creatures small and great.

There the ships shall go. This sea dragon that Thou hast formed to play therein.

All expect of Thee that Thou grant them food in season. What Thou grant to them, they shall gather up:

When Thou open Thy Hand, they

shall all be filled with goodness.

But if Thou turn away Thy Face, they shall be troubled: Thou shall take away their breath, and they shall fail, and shall return to their dust.

Thou shall send forth Thy Spirit, and they shall be created: and Thou shall renew the face of the earth.

May the Glory of the Lord endure forever: the Lord shall rejoice in His Works.

He looks upon the earth, and makes it tremble: He touches the mountains, and they smoke.

I will sing to the Lord as long as I live: I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.

Let my speech be acceptable to Him: I will take delight in the Lord.

Let sinners be consumed out of the earth, and the unjust, so that they be no more:

O my soul, Bless thou the Lord. The sun knows its setting: Thou hast appointed darkness,

Now the Tongues have become apparent, as a Sign for all. The Judeans from whom Christ came in the Flesh, were sick with unbelief and thus they fell out of Divine Grace. We who are from the Gentiles have been counted worthy of Divine Light, for we were Strengthened by the words of the Disciples who declared the Glory of God our Benefactor. Let us join them, and bend our hearts along with our knees, and Strengthened by the Holy Spirit, let us in Faith worship the Saviour of our souls.

VERSE: Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

Now the Spirit, the Comforter, is poured out on all flesh. It began with the Host of Apostles, and from them Divine Grace spread out to the Faithful by participation. His Mighty Coming is confirmed by the distribution of Tongues of Fire upon the Disciples – to Extol and Glorify God. So now that our hearts are noetically Illumined, and we are fortified in Faith by the Holy Spirit, let us earnestly pray for the Salvation of our soul.

VERSE: Do not cast me away from Thy Presence, and do not take Thy Holy Spirit from me.

Now the Apostles of Christ are clothed with Power from on High; for the Comforter Renews them and is Renewed in them, by a Mystical Renewal of Knowledge. PRIEST O Lord our God, Who bowed the Heavens and came down for the Salvation of mankind, look upon Thy Servants and Thine Inheritance.

For to Thee, the Fearful Judge Who yet Love mankind, hast Thy Serbants bowed their heads and submissively inclined their necks, awaiting not help from men, but Entreating Thy Mercy, and looking confidently for Thy Salvation.

Guard them at all times, both during this present evening and in the approaching night, from every foe, from all adverse powers of the devil and from vain thoughts and from evil imaginations.

If Thou, O Lord, should mark transgression, O Lord, who would stand? For there is forgiveness with Thee.

Today, all the nations in the City of David saw paradoxical things, when the Holy Spirit descended in Fiery Tongues, according to the utterance of Luke the Theologian. For he said that when the Disciples of Christ were gathered together, a Sound came like the rush of a Mighty Wind, and filled the house wherein they were. And they all began to speak with strange words, strange Dogmas, strange Teachings of the Holy Trinity.

Because of Thy Law, O Lord, I waited for Thee; my soul waited for Thy Word. My soul Hopes in the Lord.

We Confess Thy Grace in all

May we enjoy it at Thy Second

Coming, for Thou art both the Pioneer of our Resurrection and the Just but Compassionate Judge of our lives, and Master and Lord of our Reward.

In Ultimate Condescension Thou shared in our flesh and blood, and in our passions, willingly assuming them in the Depth of Thy Compassion so that, having Thyself been tempted, Thou offered Thyself freely as Helper to us who are tempted.

Thus Thou United us all to Thee in Thy Freedom from passion.

Will Thou, then, O Master, accept

our Prayers and Entreaties, and grant Rest to everyone’s Fathers, Mothers, Brothers, Sisters and Children, and of our family and people, and all souls who have gone before to their Rest in the Hope of Resurrection to Eternal Life.

And place their spirits and their names in the Book of Life, in the Bosom of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, in the Land of the Living, in the Kingdom of Heaven, in the Bliss of Paradise – Thy Angels of Light leading all into Thy Holy Mansions.

And on the Day Thou hast Ordained, raise up our bodies as well, according to Thine Unfailing Promise.

Passion Thou granted us Thy humble, sinful and unworthy servants an example of how to offer our Prayers in the bending of our heads and knees for our own transgressions and for the failing of people.

O All Merciful and Loving Lord: hear us whenever we call upon Thee, but especially on this Day of Pentecost on which, after our Lord Jesus Christ had Ascended into Heaven, to sit at Thy Right Hand, O God and Father, He sent the Holy Spirit upon His Holy Disciples and Apostles.

As He came to rest upon each of them, and all were filled with His overflowing Grace, they spoke in Strange Tongues of Thy Mighty Works and Prophesied.

Now as we pray to Thee, hear us and be mindful that we are lowly and deserving of Judgement; recall our souls from the bondage of sin.

Thine own Compassion

Interceding for us, accept us as we kneel before Thee, crying the familiar words: I have sinned!

We are dependent on Thee from

our mother’s womb; Thou art our God.

But because our days have been vainly squandered, we are stripped of Thy Help, without any defence.

Even so, encouraged by Thy Mercies, we cry: Remember not our sins committed in youth and ignorance, and purge our secret thoughts.

Do not spurn us in old age; when our strength fails us, do not forsake us; before we are returned to the earth, make us worthy to return to Thee, and

Supplications, and grant rest to the souls of Thy Servants, our Fathers and Brother and other kin by blood, and all those of the Household of Faith who have since fallen asleep and whose Memorial we keep this day.

For in Thee is the Strength of all and in Thy Hand Thou hold the far reaches of the earth.

O Almighty Master, God of our Fathers, and Merciful Lord of the Living and the dead, Creator of all mortal nature, composed and again dissolved, of life and of death, of earthly existence and of the departure hence, Thou measure out the years for the living and set times of death, taking down to Hades and Raising up, fettering in weakness and Liberating in Power; Thou provide aptly for the present and fittingly dispose what is to come, restoring those who are wounded by the sting of Death with the Hope of Resurrection.

O Master, Lord of all, our God and Redeemer, the Hope of all, at the ends of the earth and far away at sea, on this great and Saving Day of Pentecost Thou disclosed to us the Mystery of the Holy, Consubstantial, Co Eternal and Life Giving Trinity, indivisible yet distinct, and in the Descent and Presence of Thy Holy and Life Giving Spirit poured out its Grace upon Thy Holy Apostles in the form of Fiery Tongues, making them Proclaimers and Confessors of our Holy Faith, of True Knowledge of God.

On this Universal and Salutary Feast, deign to accept Petitions for those imprisoned in Hades, thus giving us Great Hope, and Relief to the departed from their grievous distress and Thy Comfort.

PEOPLE Lord, have mercy PRIEST O Lord Jesus Christ our God,

Thou hast bestowed Thy Peace on mankind, and the Gift of the Holy Spirit, to be with us, even in this life, as a Perpetual Inheritance to Believers, never to be taken away.

On this day Thou has sent this Grace upon Thy Disciples and Apostles ina manner more manifest, granting utterance to their lips by means of Fiery Tongs, so that every human race, hearing in our own language, received the Knowledge of God, and, Illumined by the Light of the Spirit, emerged from error as from darkness, and in the distribution of Visible Tongues of Fire, and by Extraordinary Power, were taught Faith in Thee, and were Enlightened to speak of Thee, as of the Father, and the Holy Spirit, as One Godhead, One Power, One Sovereignty.

As the Reflection of the Father, the Perfect and Immutable Likeness of His Essence and Nature, the Source of Salvation and Grace, open the lips of this sinner and teach me how and for what I should pray.

For Thou know the great number of my sins, yet Thy Compassion will overcome their enormity.

For in fear I stand before Thee, casting my soul’s despair into the Sea of Thy Mercy.

Govern my life, as Thou govern all Creation by the Unspoken Word, the Power of Wisdom, the Calm Haven of the Storm-

Renew a Steadfast Spirit in my breast, and let Thy Guiding Spirit make firm my errant mind, so that each day, led by Thy Good Spirit towards that which is Profitable, I may worthily fulfil Thy Commandments, ever mindufl of Thy Glorious and Soul-searching Presence.

And do not allow me to be beguiled by the world’s treasures.

For Thou, O Master, hast said that whatever we ask in Thy Name, we shall, without fail, received from Thy Co Eternal God and Father.

Thus I, too – the sinner – at the Descent of Thy Holy Spirit, beseech Thy Goodness.

All that I have asked, grant me for Salvation.

Yes, O Lord, Thou art the lavish Giver of everything Good, granting far in excess of what we ask.

Thou art the Compassionate and Merciful One Who, although sinless, became a Sharer in our flesh, and bending in Love for those who bend the knee to Thee, Thou became the Propitiation for our sins.

spurn the Work of Thy Hands.

It is against Thee along that we sin, but it is Thou alone Whom we worship; we know no other god nor stretch out out hands to any other deity, O Master.

Remit our offences, and as Thou receive our Petitions on bended knee, extend to us all a helping hand.

Accept our Common Prayer as a Pleasing Fragrance, rising up to Thy Blessed Kingdom.

Lord, Lord: as Thou Save us from every arrow that flies by day, Protect us from everything that lurks in darkness.

Accept the lifting up of our hands as an Evening Sacrifice.

Enable us to pass the course of the night blamelessly, untempted by evil, and rid us of all disturbance and fear induced by the Evil One.

Grant contrition to our soul, and to our thoughts due concern for our Trial on the Day of Thine Awesome and Just Judgement.

Tranfix our bodies with Awe of Thee, and deaden our earthly members, so that in the quiet of sleep we may be cheered by the Contemplation of Thy Judgements.

Distance from us every improper imagining and harmful desire.

Instead raise us up at the Hour of Prayer Strengthened in Faith and growing in Thy Commandments.
