Please remember Blessed Sacrament when preparing or changing your will.

Dear parishioners:

For a second time, in the Gospel of Luke (Lk 24: 35-48), the Risen Lord

appears to some of the disciples. The words of resurrection, spoken by Cleopas

and his companion, who had encountered Jesus on the road to Emmaus and of

whom they recognized in the Breaking of the Bread, become embodied in the

physical presence of Jesus himself. All of them had returned to Jerusalem, the

center and the beginning, the place of peace from which salvation would flow! Of

course, fear initially overtook them, but, confident faith became apparent as they

touched the Lord … and the Lord touched them!

Fearful eyes of the “old-past” must give way to eyes of the “new-future.”

The old becomes new. New and renewed relationships become possible. The cold

and dark of past hurts are melted by the warmth and brightness that comes forth

from Christ’s Resurrection. The day of the Lord’s Resurrection leads to the day of

our own resurrection. Such is the meaning behind the words of today’s Collect:

May your people exult, O God, in renewed youthfulness of spirit, so that,

rejoicing now in the restored glory of adoption, we may look forward in

confident hope to the rejoicing of the day of resurrection.

Just as Cleopas and his companion recognized the Lord Jesus in the

Breaking of the Bread, we pray for the young people of our parish who will receive

Holy Communion for the first time at the Noon and 5pm Masses next Sunday. May

Christ, who adopted them for the Father in the waters of Baptism, bring to

completion the saving work that He has begun!
