Students and Parents,
All of the fourth grade spelling lists for the year are listed below. We will have our spelling tests every Friday. A new list for study will be assigned on the weekly newsletter sent home each Friday to be tested the following Friday. The list is comprised of three parts: 5 high frequency words, 10 word pattern words, and 5 bonus words, for a total of 20 words. The test will be scored out of 15 with the opportunity to earn 5 extra points. The first five, high frequency words, must be spelled exactly correct for credit. The ten word pattern words must have the new pattern of study, and any previously studied patterns spelled correctly. As long as the word pattern of study is used correctly, credit for the word will be awarded. The academic words are taken from the 4th grade science and math core curriculum. If students spell the academic words exactly correct, they will be awarded bonus points. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at the school.
We will practice the weekly spelling lists in class each day, but for a lot of students, this is not enough time to master the words. I strongly suggest each student spend at least five minutes studying the spelling lists each night. We will learn spelling strategies and memorization strategies in class that they can use at home.
Thanks,Mrs. Townsend
