antigen is acidified to a pH range of not higher than 6 by adding an acid and then resulting pre- cipitates of lipid and contaminant proteins are removed, and then subjecting the acid-treated solution containing HBc antigen to an ion ex- change chromatography with an anion ex- changer, and a method for measuring HBc antibody by using said purified HBc antigen in a passive hemagglutination method, EIA method or RIA method.

MURINE HOST-VECTOR SYSTEM CAPABLE OF AMPLIFYING AND
EXPRESSING TRANSFECTED GENES
Francis G Kern, Claudi Basilic0 assigned to New York University
Disclosed herein is a method for amplifying and expressing transferred genes by temperature in- duction.

METHOD OF BIOSYNTHESIS AND CELLS THEREFOR
Keith Backman assigned to Biotechnica Intema- tional Inc; H J Heinz Company
An expression vector having two structural genes that form a synthetic operon expressed un- der the control of a single regulatory sequence. The operon genes correspond to the structural component of naturally occurring genes whose expression is controlled by distinct separate regulatory sequences. The operon genes code for enzymes in a biosynthetic pathway for pro- ducing a desired compound, and at least one of
those operon genes is feedback dempressed. The vector is used to transform host cells that are cul- tured to produce the desired product.

DNA ENCODING STREPTAVIDIN, STREPTAVIDIN PRODUCED
THEREFROM, FUSED POLYPEPTIDES WHICH INCLUDE AMINO ACID
SEQUENCES PRESENT IN STREPTAVIDIN AND USES
THEREOF
Charles Cantor, Richard Axe], Carlos Argarana assigned to The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of ,New York
DNA which encodes the polypeptide strep- tavidin has been isolated as a fragment 2 kb in length derived from a restriction endonuclease digestion of the chromosomal DNA of Strep- tomyces avidmu. The nucleic acid sequence of the gene and the amino acid sequence of the polypeptide have been determined. A fused gene has been prepared which comprises the strep- tavidin gene fused to a gene encoding the human LDL receptor. Expression of the gene fusion results in a fused streptavidin-human LDL receptor polypeptide. Methods are provided for using the fused gene to produce labeled, chem- ically modified proteins in vivo and to isolate a protein knowing only the nucleotide sequence of the gene encoding the protein,

METHOD FOR DETECTING A MARKER FOR ESSENTIAL
HYPERTENSION AND DIAGNOSTIC USE THEREOF
David Schachter, Szloma Kowarski, Lisa A Cowen, Richard E Abbott assigned to The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York
A method for detecting the presence in a human of an integral membrane calcium-binding pro- tein associated with essential hypertension which comprises isolating tissue from a human, treating the tissue to obtain integral membrane proteins, contacting the proteins thus obtained with a first antibody molecule which binds to the integral membrane calcium binding protein to
