Seller InsightI’ve lived in Oxfordshire since 1965,” says John, “but by 1972 my wife and I had four children and were rapidly growing out of our old home, and that is when we moved to Banbury Road. It offered us all the space that we needed both inside and out, and it was in a

location that we loved.”

This beautiful home occupies a prime location in the much sought after Summertown area of Oxford. It was built in the 1930s and in more recent years has been further extended to create the wonderfully spacious family home it is today. “Over the years, bit by bit, we’ve made a lot of improvements to the house. We’ve added an extension, altered the layout to make it more conducive to family life, and we’ve also added solar and photovoltaic panels to help make it more energy efficient. It has been a gradual process, but each element has come together to make a really lovely family home.”

“In the past couple of years the garden has become my passion,” says John. “It’s a wonderfully large L-shaped space in which I have created a beautiful rose garden with an arch that next years should be covered with a stunning variety of climbers. There’s also a large area of lawn that is big enough for a good game of badminton, and beyond the rose garden there is another space that is home to the greenhouse and a big old apple tree. It’s a garden that looks it’s absolute best in June when all of the roses are in bloom, and that is when I like to sit out with a nice glass of wine and simply enjoy the view.”

Favourite room: “As a family we always tended to gravitate to the kitchen,” says John. “It’s a lovely big room with enough space for a dining table, so we could all come together and not feel on top of one another.”

Favourite aspect of the grounds or surrounding area: “In terms of location, living here we have enjoyed the best of everything,” says John. “The house is in a lovely residential area and yet it’s incredibly close to the city centre, the transport links are excellent, and we also have the most beautiful countryside within striking distance.”

Memorable event (if not another favourite room or unique feature): “For more formal occasions we have a lovely dining room,” says John. “It’s a beautiful room to entertain in and it’s also a room that can be opened up to the garden, which is wonderful during the summer.”

What they’ll miss most / why they are leaving: “This has been a superb home for the past forty-three years,” says John, “and I think we have all enjoyed living here, but the time has come to downsize. I shall be sad to leave, but I have some wonderful memories to take with me.”
