1. Introduction .

1. Aim of the game: 2 teams of 5

players attempt to score as many

baskets as possible in a time

match. Substitutes are allowed

during stoppages in play.

2. The court: 15 m x 28 m.

3 point line for NBA: 7.24 m. 3

point line for FIBA: 6.25 m.

3. The basket: is 3.05 hight.

4. The ball: weighs between 600 and 650

grammes.

5. Match duration: 4 quarters of 10 minutes playing time. In case of a tie, there is a 5

minute overtime period. Play continues until a winner is determined. The clock stops

at each whistle or when one of the two coaches demands a time out.

6. The players:

1. The point guard.

2. The shooting guard.

3. The small forward.

4. The power forward.

5. The center.

7. Scoring Table: Validates referee´s decisions, looks after the clock, time-outs and

fouls. Officials: 1 main referee and 2 assistants.

2. The game .

1. Advancing the ball: Dribbling.

2. Jump shot. The two most common shots are the set

shot and the jump shot.

3. Slam dunk: in which the player

jumps very high and throws the

ball downward.

4. Double step: Consists of advancing towards the

basket bouncing the ball. After the last bounce,

take two steps.

5. Screens: This is when you have to be a

barrier between the defender and the

person with the ball, so that your team mate

can try to score without any opposition.

6. Block: Occurs when a defensive player legally

deflects a shot from an offensive player.

7. Rebounds: a missed basket allows for

players to fight the rebound.

Rebounds are classified as offensive

or defensive rebounds depending on

which team wins the rebound.

8. Ball out of bounds: The ball is

out of bounds if it touches the

floor outside the sidelines or is in

the hands of a player who is out

of bounds.

3. Some rules .

1. Travelling: The player in possession of

the ball cannot take more than 2 steps

after stopping his drible.

2. Double dribble, illegal dribble: The player does

not have the right to stop dribbling and then

drible again.

3. Over and back: Once the

halfway line has been

crossed the attacking team

cannot return to their own

zone with the ball.

4. Offensive foul: If an attacking player pushes a

stationary defender while trying to go past, the

referee whistles an offensive foul on the attacker.

5. Time regulations: 24 seconds to attempt a basket. 8 seconds to advance the ball into

attacking zone. 5 seconds to dribble, shoot or pass the ball. 3 seconds to leave the key

6. Personal fouls: If a player picks up 5

personal fouls he is exclused from the game

and cannot return.

7. Teaml fouls: If a team picks up 4 fouls

in the same quarter, 2 free throws are

awarded to the opposing team for every

subsequent foul.
