company worked out of an old fish cannery. At first Lind-

bergh was skeptical about tak-ing part in a company who

worked out of those condi-

tions. However after sitting down with the manager of the

company he decided to con-

tinue his quest to fly the Atlan-tic Ocean with their plane.

They built the entire frame and

body of the plane but Lind-bergh was responsible for the

Engine.

One of the most amazing things to happen in all of this decade was the flight of the Spirit of St. Louis in 1927. This flight was a defining mo-ment in the lives of many American people. When Charles Lindbergh flew across the Atlantic Ocean and crossed into France, he made history. He was the first man to fly from New York to Paris, solo and without stop. His achieve-ment won him a cash prize worth lots of money and made him a celebrity. What Lind-bergh did was important be-cause he showed many Ameri-cans the potential in planes. After World War I people were excited by airplanes and their capabilities. They took a strong interest in them but after time went by and not much happened regarding airplanes and people lost inter-est. That is why what Mr. Lindbergh did is so important. He put the excitement of flight back into the heart of the American public through his actions. His historic flight will be remembered forever

He began his flight at Roose-velt Field, Long Island. He made the entire flight with nothing but four sandwiches and two canteens of water. He reported after that while flying over Ireland he was only 10 feet above the waves in fear of losing visions because of fog.

When he had finally arrived in France people swarmed the landing area and he had to cut power to the engine before someone was hurt.

When Charles returned home he had become an inspiration to the American people for having civilian aircraft. While they still have not been re-leased for commercial use the nation feels very confident. Lindbergh has already been a very accomplished pilot. It was after this he went on a tour of 49 states becoming an advo-cate for commercial flying. It was earlier this year he was given the presidents highest honor, the Congressional Medal of Honor. He seems to be the most skilled and enthu-siastic pilot we have seen to this day. We hope that many more will follow in the foot-steps of pilots like Charles Lindbergh.

The plane, the spirit of St. Louis, is one of the most amaz-

ing things I have ever seen in

my life. The plane weighed a heavy 2000. Somehow he

managed to get this 29 foot

long and 47 foot wide piece of machinery in the air with a 9

cylinder engine. This single

engine plane was created by Ryan Airlines Co. based out of

San Diego, California. This
