It is a piezo-resistive sensor which operates off 5 volts. It provides for a voltage in proportion to the air conditioning circuit pressure. It enables the CMM to handle the BRAC function (Air conditioning cooling requirement).Fur further details see the special functions on page 8.

BSI1: Built-in Systems InterfaceThis is a central ECU which provides for a gateway between the various multiplexed networks.

BSM/PSF1: Engine Ancillaries ECU/ Fuse Box Control PanelAccording to the type of vehicle, the name may differ:

    - 206, Partner, 1007: Engine Ancillaries ECU- 207: Fuse Box Control Panel

C001: Centralised diagnostic plug 16-pin diagnostic connector.

    - Full CAN vehicle: Diag on CAN I/S and K line- Dual VAN/CAN vehicle: K line

    SPECIAL FUNCTIONS

Internal Cooling Function ECU (FRIC)The CMM (1320) receives information from the engine coolant temperature sensor (1220) and operates the motor-driven fan units (or the chopper according to type of equipment) based on the need for cooling. It also provides for "water temperature warning" and "engine coolant temperature" information via the multiplexednetworks.

Air Conditioning Cooling Requirement (BRAC)The CMM (1320) receives information from the air conditioning fluid linear pressure switch and operates the motor-driven fan units (or the chopper according to type of equipment) based on the need for cooling of the condenser.

Operation of the motor-fan units depend on the two functions. The priority command will depend on the functionrequiring the greatest speed.

DEPHIA (Dtection de Phase Intgre l'Allumage - Ignition Integrated Phase Detection)The J34P injection system is a sequential and indirect system. In order to determine the cylinder during compression phase and that during the exhaust phase the DEPHIA ignitioncoil is used.As of cylinders 1 and 4, during ignition, one of the cylinders will function in compression phase while the other willfunction in exhaust phase (the pressure in the cylinders will thus different). The voltage necessary to create the arc between the spark plug electrodes is much higher for the cylinder in thecompression phase. The CMM will interpret the 2 voltages and will know which cylinder is in compression phase.

    KEY

6606 (Static Directional Headlight Module):This is located in the front LH wheel arch, under the mudflap. It controls the static directional lights with a PWM (PulseWidth Modulation) signal. It receives the following information via the multiplexednetwork:

    - Steering wheel angle- Vehicle speed- Reverse gear- Engine running

BSI1 (Built-in Systems Interface):The role of the BSI is to provide information to the EDS module (6606). It serves as a gateway between the variousmultiplexed networks. It receives the following information via its networks:

    - Driver input via COM2005 (CV00)- Reverse gear information via PSF1 (BSM) for the BVM version.

1660 (Electronic Manual Gearbox):The EMGB informs the EDS module (6606) that reverse gear has been engaged.

CV00 (Steering column switching module COM2005):This acquires and informs the BSI of driver input (switching on and off of lights and indicators).

7803 (Steering wheel angle sensor):This acquires information on steering wheel angle and rotating direction.

PSF1 (Engine Ancillaries ECU):This acquires reverse gear information (2200) and communicates it to BSI1 if there is a manual gearbox.

7215 (Multi-function screen):This displays the menu for activation or deactivation of the "Static directional headlights" function.

7800 / 7020 (ESP / ABS):This informs the EDS module (Static Directional Headlights) (6606) of the vehicle's speed.

8480 / 8410 (Radio):This enables the EDS function to be activated or deactivated via the Multi-function Screen (EMF).Where there is no radio, EDS function is activated or deactivated via an A+ type EMF.

1320 (CMM):This informs the Directional Headlights Module (6606) as to whether the engine is running or not

2610 / 2615 (special headlights):The headlights include an extra and dedicated H7 lightbulb (A) for the static directional lighting function. This extra light is controlled with a PWM signal sent by theEDS module (6606).

    FUNCTIONING

The system includes a dedicated light bulb, located in a special reflector, fitted to the light unit and directed at a 30angle.

    (1) : Light unit

    (2) : Static directional light (H7)

    (3) : Dipped beam (H7)

    (4) : Main beam (H7)

    (5) : Sidelights (W 5W)

The static directional lights work when the dipped or main beams of the headlights are on.The EDC module (6606) controls the static directional light located on the inside of the bend (corresponding withthe rotating direction of the steering wheel).Activation varies according to 2 main pieces of information:

    - Vehicle speed- Steering wheel angle.

The static directional lights will come on when the steering wheel angle is between 25 and 50 and depending onthe vehicle speed. They will switch off when the steering wheel angle is between 15 and 20 and depending on thevehicle speed.

  • Example:

A driver approaches a right-turn bend at a speed of25 km/h.As soon as the steering wheel angle reaches 35, theEDS module (6606) will turn on the extra lamp in the RHheadlight.

Once out of the bend, as soon as the steering wheelangle goes back below 15, the lamp will switch off.

Remarks:In the event where the direction indicator is activated (whatever the vehicle speed) the static directional light willcome on as of 20 which enables the interior and edges of intersections to be lit more rapidly. The extra lamp willswitch off as soon as the steering wheel angle is below 15.

Finally, it is possible to activate the static directional lights even when stopped. This is very useful when the driveris stopped at a STOP street as the adjacent road may be lit before moving.

The static directional lighting is controlled by a by a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signal.

The intensity of the light beam when the static directional lights switch on varies from 80% to 100%:- In 100 m/s if the direction indicator is on- In 10 m/s if the direction indicator is not on.

The intensity of the light beam when the static directional lights switch off varies from 100% to 80% in 860 m/s.

NOTE: Below 80% intensity, the static directional lights switch off.

The static directional lights switch on when:- The dipped or main beams are on- Reverse gear is not engaged- The "Static Directional Headlight" function is activated via the menu on the multi-function screen- The engine running signal is present- The daytime driving lights are deactivated (this may be programmed using the maintenance tool).

  • DOWNGRADED MODES

The Static Directional Headlight function is deactivated when the following information has been lost for more than2.5 seconds:

    - Vehicle speed- Steering wheel angle- Status of the sidelights and indicators.

If the fault fails to appear for more than 5 seconds and the steering wheel has passed through the 0 angle (in-linewith the vehicle axis) the Static Directional Headlight function will be activated once again.

Should a problem occur with the EDS module (6606) or with the communication between the EDS module (6606)and one of the lamps, the function will be deactivated.

If the fault lasts for:- Less than 2.5 seconds, the function is reactivated after the steering wheel passes through the 0 angle in-

line with the axis of the vehicle.- More than 2.5 consecutive seconds, the function is reactivated once the fault has disappeared and at the

    next +APC.

PSF1 (Engine Ancillaries ECU):This acquires reverse gear information (2200) and communicates it to BSI1 if there is a manual gearbox.

    FUNCTIONING

The warning on the seatbelt not fastened module (4746):

The warning lights appear on the bar:- In red, if the seatbelt is not fastened- In green, if it is fastened

Comment: If the passenger has not been detected the warning light will remain green even though the seatbelt isnot fastened.

Management of the driver seatbelt:The driver seat is presumed occupied when the ignition is turned on.

The driver's seatbelt not fastened warning light will come on in red if the seatbelt has not been fastened.

Above 20 km/h the driver's seatbelt not-fastened warning light will flash in red. The BSI1 also controls the audiblewarning on the steering column switching module (CV00) which increases in volume for 2 minutes.

After 2 minutes, the warning light stays on but the audible warning stops.

As soon as the seatbelt has been fastened the audible warning stops, the light turns to green and then switches off.

Management of the front passenger seatbelt:A detection harness (4737) is located in the seat cushion, serving to detect the presence of a person. The minimumweight for detection is 35 kg (according to the distribution of the load).

If the passenger is detected and his/her seatbelt has not been fastened, the front seatbelt not fastened warning lightwill come on in red.

Management of the visual and audible warning takes place according to the same principle as for the driver'sseatbelt.

Note: Even if a front passenger has not been detected, this will not affect the functioning of the airbag.

    207SEATBELT NOT FASTENED WARNING FUNCTION

    - 15 -

    Driver Rear passengers Frontpassengers

  • Management of the rear seatbelts:Unlike the front passenger seat, the rear seat is not equipped with a detection harness. A warning is given when theseatbelt has been detached and not when it has not been fastened.

Upon ignition, the 3 seatbelt warning lights for the rear will come on and display the fastening status of the seatbelts.

When the seatbelts are fastened the lights come on in green.

Should a seatbelt thereafter be detached:- Below 20 km/h, the warning light for the seatbelt in question comes on in red.- Above 20 km/h, the warning light for the seatbelt in question flashes and the audible warning is emitted

    becoming increasingly louder.

The warning on the instrument panel (0004):

The seatbelt not fastened warning (1) on the instrumentpanel comes on if one of the vehicle's seatbelts are notfastened or detached.

The warning light will flash as soon as the vehicle's speedexceeds 20 km/h and one of the seatbelts is not fastenedor detached.

    NOTEWORTHY POINTS

    - The audible warning stops in reverse gear if the parking radar function is active.- A warning in progress continues to be transmitted if speed drops below 20 km/h.- The seatbelt not fastened warning module switches off:

    - Instantaneously as soon as the 5 indicator lights turn green.- After 30 seconds if one of the 3 rear passenger indicator lights remain red (non-detection of

fastening).- The timing of the 30 seconds only starts once the doors have been closed (key in the ignition).- When the passenger airbag is inhibited, beyond a speed of 20 km/h, the passenger seatbelt indicator light

will be permanently displayed in red (without the audible warning) even though there is a passenger present withouthis/her seatbelt fastened.

    DOWNGRADED MODES

Should information regarding "vehicle speed" be lost, the warning management system will display thecorresponding warning light permanently in red (without the audible warning).
