We are New York State’s premier financing and construction authority.The Dormitory Authority of the State of New York’s (DASNY) Summer Internship Program draws on a 75-year tradition of excellence, and challenges students to learn by actively participating in DASNY’s various business functions. We offer an exciting paid summer internship for college and university students. Our program provides experience in a professional setting, and engages students with DASNY staff and industry professionals. DASNY provides project-driven supervision and ongoing one-on-one performance feedback to student interns. The internship gives students an opportunity to:

• Consider a career in the public sector;

• Learn from industry leaders and expand their professional network; and

• Gain invaluable experience in a supportive setting.

DASNY is a public benefit corporation that provides a wide range of financing and construction services that serve the public good. Examples of our clients include: public and private colleges and universities, hospitals, primary care facilities, psychiatric centers, laboratories, medical research facilities, nursing homes, adult homes, and libraries. In addition, DASNY works with K-12 schools, including schools serving those with special education needs, courts, housing for the homeless, and other facilities that provide services to New Yorkers.

We offer placements throughout New York State, which may include our headquarters in Albany, our New York City, Buffalo, and Rochester offices, as well as various field sites across the state.

Placement Opportunities

During the summer, student interns will have several opportunities to receive hands-on experience in DASNY business operations, and learn about the critical role DASNY plays as New York State’s financier and builder.

DASNY offers temporary placement in the following areas:

Construction Division

Since its inception, DASNY has completed thousands of construction projects—successfully managing more than 600 at a time. DASNY’s construction pipeline is valued at approximately $7.7 billion.

Project Management

Interns will assist in a wide range of tasks required for the management of an active construction project as listed in the job description. Interns will help coordinate and inspect the work of mechanical, electrical, and other contractors, and participate in various meetings with of the construction team.

Design (Planning, Design and Quality Assurance)

Interns will assist in a wide range of architectural and engineering, technical and managerial planning, design and quality assurance tasks from project inception through completion. Interns will assist in reviewing and preparing designs, plans specifications, addenda and change orders; reviewing the quality of design work by consultant architects and engineers and the construction work by contractors and sub-contractors; performing on-site inspections of existing conditions and ongoing construction; and will also perform other related duties as assigned.

Executive Division

Communications + Marketing

The intern will assist with the Communications + Marketing team, performing a variety of tasks, including developing marketing communications, media research, graphic design, video production and editing, event management, and website and social media content development.

Information Services

Desktop Support

The intern will assist the Information Services department on a wide range of tasks for the Desktop & Help Desk Support Team. Some duties will include the moving and conversion of phone systems, PC replacements, iPhone security patching, adoption of a new video conference platform and providing first level Help Desk support.

Information Security

The intern will assist the Information Services department on a range of cyber security related tasks. Some responsibilities will include assisting with development of security metrics and awareness items (posters, messages to the organization, etc.), evaluating data within various security tools, identifying patterns of attacks and recommending steps to block evolving threats.

Program Requirements

• DASNY interns must be enrolled in a college degree program at an accredited college or university and must be returning to school in the fall semester immediately following their summer internship. Graduating students who do not intend to return to school are not eligible for participation in this program.

• DASNY’s Internship Program will run from May 28 - August 21. Students will be expected to stay for the entire duration of the program.

• Intern positions are paid $15 per hour.
