Celebrate the Lake: June 9th-10th: At MacRay Harbor, Harrison Township. Three area non-profit organizations with a strong connection and dedication to Lake St. Clair are hosting a major celebration of the lake and its assets Saturday and Sunday, June 9-10, with activities to take place at MacRay Harbor on North River Road in Harrison Township. This year will feature an expanded list of events and activities—all of which are free and open to the public. www.lakestclair.net/index.php?/calen-dar/1/event-791RROA Kids Bluegill Derby: June 9th, 9am-2pm: Ryan Rocks Outdoor Adventures will be fishing for Bluegills in the pond at Rochester Municipal Park! Bring your fishing equipment and join in the fun. Registration is required. To register, visit RROA website www.ryanrocksoutdooradventures.orgYouth Fishing Derby: June 9th, 10am-12pm: Join us at Camp Agawam 1301 W. Clarkston Rd for this free children’s fishing program. Register at www.orionparks.comFishing Derby: June 9th, 7:30am-11am: Join the City of Auburn Hills at their 15th annual Fishing Derby at Riverside Park in down town Auburn Hills. The Main Branch of the Clinton River is stocked with 10”-16” rainbow trout. Prizes will be award-ed in a variety of categories. All anglers must bring own equip-ment - NO fly rods, NO trble hooks or multi hooks please. Catch and release only. For more information on the Auburn Hills Fishing Derby, please contact Community Development at 248-364-6900, the Parks & Recreation Department at 248-370-9353 or check the City of Auburn Hills website at www.auburnhills.org. Registration is on site.Lake 16 Cleanup with Slow Row LO: June 9th, 11am-1pm: Join the Freshwater Forum and Slow Row LO for a cleanup along the shore of Lake Sixteen in Orion township. Participants are asked to meet at the public boat launch off Joslyn Rd. Each par-ticipant is required to have an Oakland County Parks Pass and must also provide your own craft (kayak or SUP) and personal flotation device. No registration required.Village of New Haven Annual Community Clean Up and Beautification: June 9th, 9am-1pm: The Village of New Haven will have local community members and agencies partic-ipate in the Beautification of our Village Hall and Community Center. We will also pick a designated area of the Shook Drain or Salt River to do a localized clean-up - the exact location is yet to be determined. All volunteers will be provided a light lunch. No registration required.River Days Fishing Derby presented by Genisys Credit Union June 9th, 6pm-8pm: If your child loves to fish you cannot miss this event at our Clinton Township Civic Center stocked pond! We invite participants ages 16 & under to join us for our Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 9th from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Prizes will be awarded for most inches caught in to be determined age divisions. Fishing licenses are not required for this catch and release format. Must pre-register only for this event due to limited space and with our department by visiting www.clintontownship.com/recreation Bait provided, but bring your own pole and gear. Lawn chairs recommended.

Spencer Park Bass Tournament: June 9th, 10am-3pm: All ages welcome to this family friendly, shore fishing event. A contest for the largest Large Mouth Bass caught and most Large Mouth Bass caught takes place from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm. Prizes and trophies will be awarded for multiple categories and age groups. Registration is required and opens with the park at 10:00 am on the day of the event. Registration for the event is free, however there is a vehicle entry fee to the park. You are welcome to stay after the event to enjoy all of the park’s ame-nities including swimming and picnicking! Register day of by coming to the Boat House pavilion between 10 am and 1 pm. No fee to participate!

Art Fish Fun Festival: June 9th, 11am-4pm: Beaudette Park in Pontiac off of Orchard Lake Rd (786 Orchard Lake Rd). Hosted by The Oakland County Water Resources Commission-er’s Office, Pure Oakland Water, The Art Experience, and the City of Pontiac. A family friendly and FREE event that makes learning about water fun through interactive art and education stations. The day kicks off with a park cleanup from 11am-noon. After, attendees will enjoy arts and crafts, games, face painting, live animals, bounce houses and so much more! BBQ lunch will be made available free of charge, guests can fish or learn to fish with Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner Jim Nash. Volunteers needed to help. Recreation 101: Intro to Fishing: June 9th , 10am-12pm: Bald Mountain Recreation Area (1330 E. Greenshield Road, Lake Orion 48360) Join us during Free Fishing Weekend for this introductory fishing program which will teach you fishing basic skills needed for this fun sport. All ages are welcome. The park will have a limited supply of poles and tackle. We ask that if you have a fishing pole with tackle to bring it to the class. No fishing permits will be needed this weekend. Please RSVP and call the park with questions. A Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into Michigan state parks. Go Fish! Family Fishing Night: June 10th, 4pm-6pm: Marshbank Park Fishing Pier, 2805 Hiller Rd, West Bloomfield Township, MI 48324. Twice a year, the Michigan DNR waives all fishing license fees and West Bloomfield Parks is coordi-nating the perfect way to celebrate. Join us at the fishing pier located inside Marshbank Park on Cass Lake for the opportunity to share this great outdoor pastime with your family.Never been fishing before? No problem! We will have staff on hand with a limited number of fishing poles provided for hands-on instruction to get you and your child started. Play fishing games or win a fishing pole if you catch the smallest or the larg-est fish of the night.Dinner (provided by Buffalo Wild Wings) will be served at the Maple Ridge Shelter near the pier.This program will be a catch and release of all fish, so bring your camera to document your successes!Registration is required and no on-site registration will be of-fered. Let’s stop garlic mustard at its invading edge before it spreads farther into a high-quality woodland. Meet at the East Graham Boat Launch parking lot on the north side of Predmore Road in the park’s North Unit. Meeting location: 42.786267, -83.190904 We will likely caravan to another location and may split into groups, so please arrive on time. Morning in the Marsh Canoe: June 9th and 23rd, 9am: Join us as we paddle through our unique marsh aboard a 34-foot voyageur canoe. We’ll explore nature and Michigan’s fur trade. Don’t forget – everyone gets to paddle, too. Ages 7 and up. Please preregister, (586) 463-4332. Time: 9 a.m. Cost: $5 Location: Lake St. Clair Metropark Boat Launch Contact: 586-463-4332A Metroparks vehicle entry permit is required to enter any Metropark and is only $35 annually for regular admission, $21 annually for seniors or $10 daily.

Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center River Day: June 2nd 11am-2pm: Come join us as we celebrate the Clinton River and learn about what makes this river so important to us as members of the Clinton Watershed. We will take a walk along the river to see what kinds of plants and animals we can observe, learn about great ways that you and your friends can make a difference in the health of the Clinton, have a kayaking demonstration and discuss the new Watertrail Initiative by the Clinton River Watershed Council, and witness the effects of storm water pollution on our watershed! FREE PROGRAM! Pre-Registration is HIGHLY en-couraged so that we may plan our activities and supplies accord-ingly. 10th Annual Paddlepalooza: June 2nd: Co-sponsored by the City of Auburn Hills and the City of Rochester Hills. The event will take place on an 8-mile stretch of the Clinton River, beginning at Riverside Park in downtown Auburn Hills and ending at the Rivercrest Banquet Center at Avon & Livernois. Event includes a race for seasoned paddlers (canoe and kayak) or a shorter, adventure paddle for individuals to paddle the river...both options include fun on the water, great scenery, wildlife and lots of fresh air! Pre-registration is advised. Event informa-tion and application is available at auburnhills.org/community/downtown/paddlepalooza.

Beyond Amateur Naturalist-Summer Edition June 9th -June 23rd, 9am-11am: Join us on an adventure for those who want to learn more about our great outdoors. This three week summer training program developed in conjunction with MSU Extension will train people of all experience levels to become more than amateur naturalists. This special three week class will bring in field experts to teach fly tying, fly fishing, ar-chery, beavers in the Clinton River and more! Class will be both indoors and outside including hiking unpaved paths. Naturalist program is for ages 16 to adults. Sprint N’ Splash: June 16th: Lake St. Clair Metropark. Sprint and Splash is a fundraising event with the unique purpose of pro-moting and celebrating Lake St. Clair, which is truly the “heart” of the Great Lakes. Sprint and Splash kicks off the day with a 6-mile WPA Sanctioned Stand-Up Paddle board race. Following the SUP race, is the Duathlon, which combines a 5K run AND a 2-mile paddle (kayak or stand-up paddle board). Sprint and Splash also offers a 5K Fun Run and Walk (for those who want to stay dry) and a 2-mile recreational Stand-Up Paddleboard race. The Sprint and Splash “Beach Village” is open throughout the day, giving participants and spectators the option to visit local vendors before or after their race. DURING THE MONTH OF JUNE

Nathaniel is an 18 year old senior in high school & resident of War-ren. Nathaniel has always enjoyed art and sketching and would like

to pursue a career in Art Animation.

He began his design by “free-penning” at random and then he had the idea to draw the canoe, and his design took off from there.

Congratulations and thank you to Nathaniel for creating and submit-ting such an origional and special design for our 2018 River Day!
