Helping Fight Hunger is Ameris Bank’s annual bank wide project to collect as many non-perishable food items as possible during the month of October. Monetary and non-perishable donations will be matched by Ameris Bank. A portion of the collected food/money goes to “Our Daily Bread”. Please make monetary donations to either Ameris Bank locations or DFUMC and mark in the memo Ameris Bank. Boxes for non-perishable items are located in the Narthex, Robertson Hall and the Preschool. PROJECT MUNCH meets at 5:30 on Tuesdays in The Refuge. We serve 5 elementary schools this year with over 200 munch bags for students each week. This is 2 new schools added over our pilot program and an increase in outreach! We need people to pack and individuals to adopt a school and deliver the bags weekly. Contact Allison Lindsey for more information: 393- 5524. ATTENTION ALL CRAFTERS! We are starting a new ministry - A Sewing/Prayer Shawl Ministry at DUMC. We will be located in The Refuge in two adjoining rooms. There will be six sewing machines set up in one room for the sewing ministry and sofas in the other room for the prayer shawl ministry. We have a few project ideas for these new ministries and welcome any new ideas. The possibilities are limitless. Please contact Vicki Pridemore (912-389-6322) or Jackie Greene (912-393-4429) if you are interested. PRESCHOOL: We currently have openings in our 3-year-old class. Registration forms are available in the church office or online at www.douglasfirst.com (click on ministries link). The Belk Charity Day Sale to benefit the Preschool is coming November 4 th ! Our goal at Douglas 1 st UMC is for everyone to be involved with meaningful ministry. Everyone has a special gift set/calling that God has given you. Discovering what it is may require some prayer and practice. God does not normally send an angel like he did with the Virgin Mary or a Burning Bush with Moses. Often times God comes like with Samuel, still small voice that calls our name. During this 4 weeks series, we will be soliciting your prayers, presences, gifts and service. We will be giving everyone a “Getting Involved” sheet to fill out and return to the church office so that when we are seeking to implement a ministry team we can give them your name and contact information. Some of you are already involved and that is great. We realize only about 30% of the congregation is fully engaged in ministry opportunities. We have 4 major areas of ministry: NURTURE, OUTREACH, CHRISTIAN EDUCATION, and WORSHIP. Everyone hopefully will discover your place of service. Just this past month a group started a Knitting/ Sewing Group that takes a person who loves to knit/sew and begins to offer ways of helping and serving people. Another group of our congregation loves to dance so they have started a “Liturgical Dance” group. Some of you will seek to discover a new ministry that has never been done before. Get started! If you need help let me know what I can do. PLEASE TAKE THIS AS AN INVITATION FROM YOUR PASTOR TO GET INVOVLED WITH SOME MINISTRY NOW. We are looking to change the CULTURE of our Church where people will be known for their INVOLVEMENT. Thank you in advance for your INVOVLEMENT.
