Comprehensive Needs Assessment

Demographics

Demographics Summary

Italy High School resides in a small, rural town in Ellis County where enrollment has steadily increased. We are 57% White, 29% Hispanic, 10% Black, 2%multiracial and 1% Asian and Island Pacificer combined. We are 58% male and 42% female. 51% of our student body is economically disadvantaged and44.5% is at risk.

Demographics Strengths

Our students are primarily from families who have lived here for a long time. That allows for easy and productive communication between the school andstudents' families. We are diverse; this provides the opportunity for cultural enrichment in the classroom setting.

Problem Statements Identifying Demographics Needs

Problem Statement 1: Teacher turnover is consistently high Root Cause: Comparable pay and demands of a teacher in a small district can beoverwhelming.
