Summary
Projection
4-man front that moves often to accentuate his explosiveness and quickness off the football
Potentially a starter in a 4-man front if strength and weight are added
Rotational edge pass rusher
Redshirt Senior edge rusher, started 26 of 49 games at VAPI in Bud Foster’s 4-2-5 defense. A 3 down player at VAPI, in both the stand up and 3 point stances, and aligned in 9/7/3 techniques. Good height and very good athletic ability. On the snap has elite explosiveness out of his 3 point and very good explosiveness from his stand up position with long strides up field. Very good play speed allows him to keep very good OL prospects, including at Senior Bowl, off balance. Good at cornering if he beats OT off snap with speed. Otherwise, very good violent hand placement on the chest/chin of the OT and has a very good PR plan. Works long arm, and has good vision to see/feel QB depth and convert to his second move, spin or arm over inside. Very good at closing/pursuing QB and flashes ability to turn it up with the game on the line. Uses very good lateral quickness on stunts in the run game, or very good hands on an arm over move to create penetration and TFLs. Demonstrates good FBI by his multiple alignments and movement assignments. Good toughness to play through a broken/casted left hand early in season. Adequate play strength to break hands of OL in PR when converting to second move. Adequate finisher on QB with multiple broken sacks, including one in the Senior Bowl. Marginal weight has him adequate at leveraging blocks at POA, and moved off LOS in run game when not able to win with quickness. Can be wreckless with speed and lose balance. Had disciplinary issues as a freshman, and was suspended half a game as a senior. Overall, projects best as a situational edge rusher in year one, and in a system that capitalizes on his speed and lateral quickness. Needs to add strength and bulk before being a 3 down player in a 4-man front at the NFL level. Additional evaluation and baseline tests needed from Combine.
