Important safety notes

G WARNINGIf you operate information systems and com-munication equipment integrated in the vehi-cle while driving, you will be distracted fromtraffic conditions. You could also lose controlof the vehicle. There is a risk of an accident.Only operate the equipment when the trafficsituation permits. If you are not sure that thisis possible, park the vehicle paying attentionto traffic conditions and operate the equip-ment when the vehicle is stationary.

Observe the legal requirements of the coun-try in which you are currently driving.Bear in mind that, at a speed of only 50 km/h,your vehicle covers a distance of nearly 14 mper second.When using the device please follow:Rthe safety information in these instructionsRtraffic rules and regulationsRmotor vehicle laws and safety standards

i Improper work on electronic componentsor other systems (such as the radio anddisc slot) and their software may result inmalfunction or failure. Even systems thathave not been modified could be affectedbecause the electronic systems are con-nected. Electronic malfunctions can seri-ously jeopardize the operational safety ofyour vehicle.Always have all work on or modifications toelectronic components carried out at aqualified specialist workshop.

Proper use

Audio 15 can be used to receive radio sta-tions, to play back SD memory cards andother data carriers and to make calls via theBluetooth® function. Audio 15 can also beused for the playback of the image from the

rear view camera and as a navigation systemin conjunction with the Becker® MAP PILOT(optional).Observe the specified requirements for datacarriers and permissible formats.

Equipment

This Supplement describes Audio 15 with allstandard and optional equipment available atthe time of this Supplement going to print.Country-specific variations are possible.Please note that your Audio 15 system maynot be equipped with all the features descri-bed. This also applies to systems and func-tions relevant to safety. Therefore, your Audio15 equipment may differ from certaindescriptions and illustrations. Should youhave any questions concerning equipmentand operation, consult any authorizedMercedes-Benz Center.This supplement is an integral part of thevehicle. Keep it in the vehicle together withthe Operating Instructions.

Cleaning

To clean, use a slightly damp cloth. The clothmust be soft and lint-free. For stubborn dirt,you can use a mild cleaning agent. In partic-ular, do not clean the display with alcohol,acid or an abrasive cleaning agent.

Basic functions

Switching on/offX Press the q on/off button.

Once switched on, Audio 15 calls up themost recently active function.i Audio 15 switches itself off automatically

when you remove the ignition key.

i Audio 15 switches itself off automaticallywhen the condition of charge of the batteryis low.

i If Audio 15 is on while the ignition isswitched off, it will switch itself off auto-matically after approximately 30 minutesto save the vehicle battery.

Activating/deactivating the mutefunctionX Press the8 button.

The sound from the audio source isswitched on or off. When the sound hasbeen muted, thex symbol is shown inthe status bar.

i If you change the audio source or adjustthe volume, the sound switches on againautomatically.

i When the mute function is active, play-back from the SD memory card, USB deviceand BT audio is paused. When you deacti-vate the mute function, playback willresume from the position where it waspaused.

Important safety notes

! Objects that are not at ground levelappear further away than they actually are,for example:Rthe bumper of the vehicle parked behindRthe drawbar of a trailerRthe ball coupling of a trailer tow hitchRthe tail-end of a truckRslanted postsOnly use the camera guide lines for orien-tation. Do not get any closer to objects thanthe lowest horizontal guide line. You mayotherwise damage your vehicle and/or theobject.

The rear view camera is only an aid. It cannotreplace your own awareness of the immedi-ate surroundings. You are responsible forsafe maneuvering, parking and pulling away.When maneuvering and parking, make surethat there are no persons, animals or objectsin the maneuvering area.The rear view camera may show obstacles inperspectival distortion, incorrectly or not atall. The rear view camera cannot display allobjects located very near and/or under therear bumper. It does not warn you of a colli-sion, persons or objects.The area behind the vehicle is displayed in amirrored fashion, as in the rear-view mirror orthe exterior mirrors.The rear view camera covers the immediatesurroundings of the vehicle and assists you,for example, when parking.Under the following circumstances, the rearview camera will not function, or will functionin a limited manner:Rthere is very heavy rain, snow or fogRat night or when the vehicle is in very dark

placesRif you are parked somewhere very darkRthe surrounding area is illuminated with flu-

orescent light. The display may flickerRif there is a sudden change in temperature,

e.g. when driving into a heated garage inwinter

Rif the ambient temperature is very highRif the camera lens is dirty or obstructedRthe rear of the vehicle is damaged. In this

case, have the camera position and settingchecked at a qualified specialist workshop

Rear view camera operationThe image from the rear view camera isshown in the display when reverse gear isengaged if:Ryour vehicle is equipped with a rear view

cameraRthe ignition is switched on

Guide lines in the display (depending on thevehicle's equipment) help you with backingup.

Static guide linesDepending on the vehicle's equipment, therear view camera image displays static guidelines. These guide lines assist you with back-ing up.The static guidelines have the followingmeanings:

: Distance from the rear of the vehicle, 10 ft(3 m)

; Vehicle width (to outer edge of wheels)= Vehicle width including exterior mirrors? Vehicle center mark (e.g. to improve visi-

bility of a trailer drawbar)A Distance from the rear of the vehicle, 10 in

What does pairing mean?When pairing, an authorized connection isestablished between Audio 15 and the Blue-tooth® device.Your mobile Bluetooth® device must be visi-ble. Information on how to make your Blue-tooth® device visible can be found in theoperating instructions of your Bluetooth®

device.If Audio 15 and your Bluetooth® device arepaired, they will connect automatically assoon as there is a Bluetooth® connection.

i Audio 15 saves the pairing data of up to10 Bluetooth® devices. If an additionalBluetooth® device is coupled, Audio 15overwrites the pairing data for the Blue-tooth® device that has not been connectedto it for the longest period of time.

GPS (Global Positioning System)

Position finding and route guidance takeplace using GPS (Global Positioning System).For this purpose, the navigation module hasan integrated GPS receiver that receives thesatellite signals and determines your geo-graphical location.

Preparing navigation

Inserting the navigation modulei Switch off the ignition before removing or

inserting the navigation module.X Open the glove box.X Insert the navigation module into the

Call disconnection while the vehicle isin motion

A call may be disconnected if:Rthere is insufficient GSM network coverage

in certain areas.Ryou move from one GSM or UMTS trans-

mitter/receiver area (GSM/UMTS cell) intoanother and no channels are free.

Ryou use a SIM card which is not compatiblewith the network available.

Ryou are using a mobile phone with "Twin-card" and the mobile phone with the sec-ond SIM card is already logged into the net-work.

"911" emergency callMaking emergency calls without entering aPIN is only possible using the mobile phone.The 911 emergency call number is a publicservice. Any misuse is punishable by law.

What is PBAP?PBAP stands for Phonebook Access Profileand refers to the possibility of transferringtelephone book entries and call lists from themobile phone to Audio 15.
