Format of the PhD programmeResearch scholars undergo intensive coursework during the first year. The medium ofinstruction is English. On successful completionof the course work and other requirements forconfirmation of the candidature, they will beregistered for a PhD degree with the JawaharlalNehru University, New Delhi. Students are paida scholarship of Rs. 25,000/-per month for thefirst two years and Rs. 28,000/- thereafter forthe next three years, subject to satisfactoryprogress. In addition, they are paid a book grantof Rs.5,000/- per annum for four years. Hostelaccommodation, if available, or HRA in lieu ofwill be provided for a period of five years. RRIencourages and supports participation ofstudents in national and internationalconferences.RRI is also a participant in the Joint AstronomyProgramme (JAP) with the Indian Institute ofScience, Bengaluru.
Who are eligibleCandidates seeking admission in Physics musthave MSc degree in Physics/Mathematicswith a minimum of 55% marks in aggregateor equivalent or first class B.E./B.Tech degreein Engineering. Candidates seeking admissionin Chemistry/Nanotechnology or Nanosciencemust have MSc degree in Chemistry with aminimum of 55% marks in aggregate.Students who expect to complete their finaldegree in the academic year 2014-2015 mayalso apply, provided they can produce theirfinal score card at the time of admission.Reservations for SC/ST/OBC candidates willbe as per norms.

ORPerformance in UGC/-CSIR-NET for JRF(Physics) or with sufficiently high score inGATE or in subject GRE (Physics).
CHEMISTRYThe candidates are selected for interview basedon their performance in written test held atRRI or UGC/-CSIR NET (Chemistry) for JRF.The final selection for all the candidates isbased on the performance in the interviews tobe held at RRI in the first week of June 2015.Call letters for written test/interviews will besent around mid-April, 2015.
