The review includes pieces ranging historically and geographically from traditional rhythm tap, South African Gumboot, French Canadian Waltz Clog, Irish Step Dance, a Tribute to Vaudeville throwing in a few unique twists from NCYTE including song, body percussion, pencil drumming and even Taiko drumming! Highlighting the life of Jackie Robinson, this one-man play also dramatizes other momentous events in African-American sports history. The ArtsCenter’s School Show Series is designed to enhance and supplement school curricula through the arts. Through performances at The ArtsCenter, students are provided a unique window into the curriculum they are studying in the classroom. School Shows are fun, memorable ways to learn, discover, and experience the arts and curriculum.

HOW MUCH ARE TICKETS?Tickets are $7. One teacher/chaperone/parent admitted FREE with every 10 paying children. Though the performances have been designed for school groups, tickets may be available to the general public.

HOW DO I RESERVE TICKETS?Reservations are taken on a first come, first served basis. We do not issue paper tickets.

Please contact the School & Family Performances Coordinator, at (919) 929-2787, ext. 214 or email her at [email protected] to make a reservation. After you register, we will email you a confirmation packet that will include a performance guide, as well as helpful information for the day of the show. Walk-up tickets may sometimes be available..WHEN DO I PAY?Payment is due IN FULL three weeks prior to the date of the show. Seats are guaranteed only until the payment due date. Reservations not paid by the due date may be cancelled and given to groups on waiting lists.

DO YOU GIVE REFUNDS?Full refunds will only be given if the performance is cancelled by The ArtsCenter. Money will not be refunded due to school closing (for example: inclement weather) or student illness.

HOW LONG ARE THE PERFORMANCES? All shows last approximately 45 – 60 minutes. Teachers are asked to register their students for the show that targets their specific age group.

WHERE IS THE ARTSCENTER LOCATED?The ArtsCenter is located in Carrboro, just blocks from the Ackland Art Museum and UNC, and is in the same strip mall as Amante Pizza, Fleet Feet, and the Cat’s Cradle. The ArtsCenter’s address is 300-G East Main Street, Carrboro, NC 27510.

Residency ProgramsArts-Based Learning Experiences (ABLE): The mission of this program is to find ways to integrate the arts to achieve the common core curriculum goals by presenting the subject matter in new and different ways. We can assist you in making that connection. We have a roster of talented and experienced teaching artists with unlimited imaginations. Our approach to developing lesson plans creates excitement, and fosters curiosity in a variety of subjects for all ages and learning styles.

The ABLE Residency includes attending a School Show, developing a lesson plan for five class sessions with a teaching artist and one evaluation meeting at the end of the residency.

The Program objectives are:• Assist teachers in meeting their curriculum goals• Provide teachers with new teaching and learning tools• Engage students in curriculum material in new and inspiring ways• Prepare students for their attendance to School Show (art form, content, and audience etiquette)

Create Your Own ResidencyA teaching artist works with classroom teachers to create short or long-term residencies that address specific curriculum concepts through a chosen art form.

The Arts In Education program serves children and classroom teachers by using the arts to enhance school curriculum. The following components comprise the Arts In Education program:

.Professional Development OpportunitiesThe ArtsCenter offers on-site professional development workshops for classroom

teachers that provide strategies on using the arts to teach curriculum. Workshops

are designed based on specific requests from teachers/administrators and can

focus on a variety of art forms and curriculum areas.
