BIOGRAPHYUSA Today called Helen Reddy “invincible.” The
first Australian to win a Grammy for “Best Female Artist,”
Reddy garnered the international spotlight with the
No. One chart-busting songs Delta Dawn and Angie Baby; I
Don’t Know How to Love Him; and You and Me Against the
World. Her self-penned signature song I Am Woman became
an anthem for the feminist movement and women’s rights
and made Reddy an international icon.
The Times Union raved, “Reddy’s hits were always
melodic, often quirky and always, in their own way, classy.”
In the HELEN REDDY HOLIDAY SHOW, the
songstress, who garnered a “Favorite Pop/Rock Female”
American Music Award, delivers seasonal tunes and the hits
that made her a global household name.
Reddy was the first Australian to host her own
weekly televised variety show on an American network.
Her theater work has included roles on Broadway and in
London’s West End. As a solo concert artist, she performed
at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York and the
Royal Albert Hall and the Palladium in London. Reddy was
also the first Western female performer invited to perform in
China.
Reddy penned the best-selling memoir The Woman I
Am. n

ROB KAPILOW’S WHAT MAKES IT GREAT?
OVER THE RAINBOW: THE SONGS OF HAROLD ARLEN
ROB KAPILOW, CONDUCTOR/COMMENTATOR
D’ANA LOMBARD, SOPRANO and
GRIFFITH FRANK
Wednesday, December 4, 2013, 7:30 PM
This performance will not include an intermission. The taking of photographs or use of recording devices is strictly prohibited.

BIOGRAPHIESROB KAPILOW has long been compared to
legendary composer-conductor Leonard Bernstein and
exalted as “Classical music’s greatest evangelist” by the
Boston Herald. In OVER THE RAINBOW: THE SONGS OF HAROLD ARLEN, Kapilow unlocks the secrets of
master songwriter Arlen, whose vast songbook consists of
more than 400 tunes such as Get Happy, Last Night When
We Were Young, Stormy Weather, That Old Black Magic, and
Over the Rainbow, which was voted the No. One song of
the 20th century by the Recording Industry Association of
America and the National Endowment for the Arts.
For more than 20 years, Kapilow has brought the joy
and wonder of Classical music – and unraveled some of
its mysteries – to audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
Characterized by his unique ability to create an “aha”
moment for his audiences and collaborators, whatever their
level of musical sophistication or naiveté, Kapilow’s work
brings music into people’s lives: opening new ears to musical
experiences and helping people to listen actively rather
than just hear.
Kapilow’s range of activities is astonishingly broad,
including his What Makes It Great? presentations (now for
more than 15 seasons in New York and Boston), his family
compositions and Family Musik events, his Citypieces, and
residencies with institutions as diverse as the National
Gallery of Canada and Stanford University. The reach of his
interactive events and activities is wide, both geographically
and culturally: from Native American tribal communities in
Montana and inner-city high school students in Louisiana
to audiences in Kyoto and Kuala Lumpur, and from
tots barely out of diapers to musicologists in Ivy League
programs, his audiences are diverse and unexpected, but
invariably rapt and keen to come back for more.
Kapilow’s popularity and appeal are reflected in
notable invitations and achievements: he appeared on
NBC’s Today Show in conversation with then-host Katie
Couric and he presented a special What Makes It Great?
event for broadcast on PBS’s Live From Lincoln Center. He
has written two highly popular books published by Wiley/
Lincoln Center: All You Have to Do Is Listen, which won
the PSP Prose Award for “Best Book in Music and the
Performing Arts”; and the 2011 What Makes It Great, the
first book of its kind to be especially designed for the iPad
with embedded musical examples.
Also an award-winning composer, Kapilow recently
premiered a large-scale work commissioned by the Marin
Symphony to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Golden
Gate Bridge.
The evening features soprano D’ANA LOMBARD,
who made her Los Angeles Opera debut as Kate Pinkerton
in Madama Butterfly. Her past performances include The
Tempest, Amahl and the Night Visitors, and Suor Angelica.
Lombard is a recipient of the Metropolitan Opera National
Council Rohatyn Great Promise Award, the Licia Albanese-
Puccini Foundation Encouragement Award, and the Gerda
Lissner Foundation Encouragement Award.
Singer-songwriter GRIFFITH FRANK’s versatile
voice has been heard all over the world, including at
Indonesia’s Java Jazz Festival; London’s Regal Room; the
Cast Party in New York; and Hollywood’s Magic Castle.
Frank was featured on the Golden Globe-nominated
soundtrack of the Rob Marshall film Nine. A graduate of
the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, Frank is currently
working on the English adaptation of The Count of Monte
Cristo Musical. n

MICHAEL LONDRA’S CELTIC YULETIDE
Friday, December 6, 2013, 8:00 PM
There will be one 20-minute intermission. The taking of photographs or use of recording devices is strictly prohibited.
BIOGRAPHYCBS calls MICHAEL LONDRA’S CELTIC
YULETIDE “spectacular! If you are not in the spirit of the
holidays, you will be after seeing this show!” Bringing the
best of Ireland to the stage, Emmy nominee Michael Londra
is accompanied by world-class Irish dancers and musicians
in this family-friendly showcase of traditional Celtic tunes
and familiar holiday favorites. Londra “will transport you
into an amazingly beautiful world where every sound has a
purpose,” hails Irish Edition.
Since his breakthrough role as the lead singer of River-
dance on Broadway, Londra has become one of the top inter-
national soloists. His recording of Danny Boy was described
by The Irish Emigrant as “one of the best recordings of Danny
Boy in history.” The Houston Chronicle called Londra’s voice
“as pure as a crystalline stream.” The singer was nominated
for two Irish Music Awards for “Best Solo Performance” and
“Best Irish Tenor.” The Irish Music Association named him
“Best Irish Tenor” in 2011, and he garnered the “Best Irish
Tenor” honor at the 2012 Irish Music Awards.
Londra’s first album, Celt, was released to critical
acclaim and strong sales in 15 countries. He has performed
as a guest singer for the Irish supergroups Frankie Gavin &
De Dannan and Téada. He was an arranger/co-producer
for Bette Midler and Celine Dion and has collaborated
many times with renowned producer Arif Mardin. Earlier
this year, Londra wrote Song for John with Grammy winner
Marcus Hummon for the 50th-anniversary celebration
commemorating President John F. Kennedy’s 1963
homecoming trip to Ireland.
As an ambassador for Concern Worldwide, Londra
helps raise awareness about poverty and hunger. In 2013, he
became a mentor for Grammy University, teaching music
business students from Vanderbilt and Belmont Universities
in Nashville. n

BLUE SUEDE CHRISTMAS FEATURING SCOT BRUCE
AND MIKE ALBERT
Sunday, December 8, 2013, 3:00 PM
There will be one 20-minute intermission. The taking of photographs or use of recording devices is strictly prohibited.
BIOGRAPHIESA holiday homage to the late “King,” BLUE SUEDE
CHRISTMAS is “the closest [you] can get to Elvis in the
flesh,” raves CNN. The critically acclaimed tribute, which
has sold-out across the nation, features renowned Elvis
impressionists Scot Bruce as the younger heartthrob and
Mike Albert as the older rocker.
Nominated for 14 Grammys, cultural icon Elvis
Presley won three. He received the Grammy Lifetime
Achievement Award at age 36 and was inducted into the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Country Music Hall of
Fame, the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, and the Rockabilly
Hall of Fame.
Bearing a striking resemblance to the 1950s Elvis,
SCOT BRUCE has dazzled crowds worldwide – including
royalty – with his ability to sing, strum a guitar, and swivel
his hips. He “has got it going on, his voice is so uncannily
like the ‘King’s’ you’ll think you’re in Blue Hawaii,” hailed
The Nashville Tennessean. “He has all the signature Presley
moves – the independently rotating thighs … the droopy
bedroom eyes – down to a science.” Bruce portrayed the
legendary rocker on the television show Elvis in Hollywood
and in music videos with Faith Hill and Sheryl Crow.
MIKE ALBERT has earned an award-winning repu-
tation for his respectful portrayal of Elvis in the icon’s later
years. Albert toured internationally with the Jordanaires,
the group that provided back-up vocals for Elvis. Albert
has also performed with other Elvis back-up units, includ-
ing J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet and the Imperial
Quartet. An appearance on the Oprah show garnered Albert
fans throughout the United States, Europe, Australia, and
New Zealand. Oprah Winfrey proclaimed, “Mike Albert not
only looks like Elvis. … He can belt it out!” n

PRESERVATION HALL JAZZ BAND CREOLE CHRISTMAS
Friday, December 13, 2013, 8:00 PM
There will be one 20-minute intermission. The taking of photographs or use of recording devices is strictly prohibited.
BIOGRAPHYThe New York Times praised the PRESERVATION
HALL JAZZ BAND, calling it the “quintessential New
Orleans institution” for its “amiable and easy to like” music.
The Los Angeles Times cheered: “Preservation Hall keeps
its jazz hot!” In addition to performing selections from
the band’s ageless hits, the ensemble adds its infectious
harmonies and Ragtime flair to holiday favorites such as I’m
Dreaming of a White Christmas, The Dreidel Song, Swinging
in a Winter Wonderland, Bells Will Be Ringin’, and Blue
Christmas in CREOLE CHRISTMAS.
Whether performing at Carnegie Hall or Lincoln
Center, for British royalty or Thailand’s king, Preservation
Hall Jazz Band’s mission for more than five decades has been
to nurture New Orleans Jazz and introduce the distinctive
sound to contemporary audiences worldwide.
In 2006, the ensemble was honored with the National
Education Association’s prestigious National Medal of
Arts for its efforts. The Los Angeles Times praised the group
and its cause, noting: “The tradition of New Orleans Jazz
championed by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band has to be
the purest musical expression of the ‘melting pot’ ideal.
… Preservation Hall defined that other characteristically
American attribute: Where talent reigns, anything goes.”
The New York Times singled out the band for its “drive, and
funk, and … youth.”
Preservation Hall Jazz Band began touring in 1963,
performing with many pioneers of the Jazz scene, including
Louis Armstrong, Buddy Bolden, Jelly Roll Morton, and
Bunk Johnson. When the group finds itself back in the
Big Easy, it performs traditional New Orleans Jazz at the
historic Preservation Hall building, the inspiration behind
the group’s name. In 2013, the band released the critically
acclaimed album That’s It! The album is made up of entirely
original material — a first in the band’s 50-year tradition. n

Gold albums, and a plethora of awards and honors for a long
string of popular hits, including Count on Me, I Promise I Do,

Singer-songwriter MELISSA MANCHESTER cata-
pulted to national attention with Whenever I Call You Friend

Grammys. She cemented her standing in the music industry
with a Grammy for the Pop hit You Should Hear How She
Talks About You and garnered more acclaim for Walk on By.
In 1998, the songstress released Joy, which The New York

classic on first listen.” The National Academy of Recording
Arts and Sciences honored Manchester with the Governor’s

RUBEN STUDDARD became a household name

2004 chart-topping album I Need an Angel was selected the
No. One “Gospel Album of the Year” by Billboard.
Nominated 21 times for Grammys, versatile song-
bird CECE WINANS has taken home 10. From her
chart-topping Pop album Purified to her Grammy-winning
Gospel-flavored Thy Kingdom Come and Platinum-certified
album Alone in His Presence, Winans has demonstrated her
vast musical range and timeless appeal. The Los Angeles
Times noted, “Winans’ mix of the worldly with the religious
has been a key part of her success.” Her wide collection of
Top 10 hits includes the Gold-certified duet with the late
Whitney Houston, Count on Me, from the Waiting to Exhale
soundtrack; Well Alright; and Slippin’. n

BIOGRAPHIESA colorful showcase of holiday spirit and popular
tunes, DAVE KOZ AND FRIENDS CHRISTMAS TOUR 2013 brings together a magical combination of
musicians performing their hits and lively arrangements
of seasonal favorites in an uplifting, high-energy show the
whole family will love.
The Seattle Times praised six-time Grammy nominee
DAVE KOZ, citing in particular his “clean, fluid sax lines,
which have been heard on a variety of recordings, from U2’s
R&B remix of When Love Comes to Town … to albums by
Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Richard Marx, Gladys Knight,
and Donny Osmond.” The Platinum-selling saxophonist-
composer has sold millions of albums worldwide, including
Lucky Man, and the holiday CDs Ultimate Christmas,
December Makes Me Feel This Way, and A Smooth Jazz
Christmas. Saxophonic was nominated for a Grammy and
an “Image Award” from the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People. Since 1994, Koz has
hosted the popular syndicated radio program The Dave
Koz Radio Show, which spotlights who’s who and the latest
sounds in the Smooth Jazz genre.
Rolling Stone magazine praised Gospel legend
OLETA ADAMS, noting that “[her] exquisite voice is an
instrument whose high end vibrates in stunning clarity and
whose bottom range resonates richly.” Since the runaway
success of her 1990 debut album Circle of One, which went
Platinum, and the hit Get Here, the four-time Grammy-
nominated singer has impressed legions of fans and critics
globally with her crossover into Soul, R&B, Urban, and Pop
music. The New York Times hailed, “She dares to be overtly
inspirational, vulnerable and loving.”
Two-time Grammy nominee JONATHAN BUTLER
broke racial barriers and stereotypes with his first single,
Lies, which was the first song by a black musician to be
played on white radio stations in South Africa. The hit
propelled Butler into the international limelight and he
followed with the Grammy-nominated instrumental Going
Home and the ballad Sarah, Sarah, which confirmed his
position in popular music. Butler’s collection of diverse
albums includes Surrender, The Worship Project, Jonathan,
Brand New Day, and So Strong.

Contemporary Jazz figure, KEIKO MATSUI has endeared
herself to droves of fans and critics in the New Age and
Smooth Jazz genres. Her unique musical formula blends
Asian and Western influences, landing her albums Deep
Blue, Sapphire, and Dream Walk on Billboard’s Contemporary

BIOGRAPHIESBroadway’s most popular songs and shows come to
life in the one-of-a-kind theatrical showcase BROADWAY ON ICE. A cast of champion skaters performs to the
music of classic Broadway productions, such as A Chorus
Line, Cabaret, Chicago, West Side Story, Gypsy, and Rent.
Willy Bietak’s Broadway on Ice began its national tour in
November 2004 and has since been performed for more
than 100,000 people.
EKATERINA GORDEEVA skated into the global
spotlight with her former partner and late husband, Sergei
Grinkov, winning the Olympic Gold in the 1988 and 1994
pairs competition. They defined pairs skating, lifting the
sport to new heights artistically and athletically, and quickly
made a name for themselves as the most recognizable pairs
team from the former Soviet Union. They were crowned
world champions four times. As a solo performer, Gordeeva
spent 12 years on the Stars on Ice tour and continues to
perform in figure-skating exhibitions throughout the world.
She and partner Egor Beroev won Ice Age 2, a Russian
reality-television figure-skating version of Dancing With
the Stars. In 2010, Gordeeva and partner Valeri Bure won
CBC’s hit reality show, Battle of the Blades. Gordeeva and
her husband Ilia Kulik opened an ice rink in Lake Forest,
California, a facility designed, built, and operated by skaters
for skaters.
DAVIS GAINES performed the title role in Andrew
Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera more than 2,000 times
on Broadway and in Los Angeles and San Francisco, where
he received the Bay Area Critics’ Award for “Best Actor.”
Gaines was chosen by Webber and Hal Prince to play the
lead role in Whistle Down the Wind in Washington, D.C.
Gaines’ other Broadway and national tour credits include
Hello, Dolly! with Carol Channing; Camelot with Richard
Burton; and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas with Alexis
Smith. He appeared in New York concert versions of
Sitting Pretty, The Cat and the Fiddle, Pippin, The Boys From
Syracuse, and a concert version of Sweeney Todd, which
played in other U.S. cities and London. He made his New
York City Opera debut in The New Moon and sings with
symphony orchestras in venues such as Carnegie Hall,
Kennedy Center, and the Hollywood Bowl. Gaines has
appeared in the television shows Chicago Hope, Veronica’s
Closet, Murder She Wrote, and the film Warlock: The
Armageddon. He has sung for five U.S. presidents and has
recorded 30 cast albums and two solo CDs on LAP Records.
Born and raised in Orlando, Florida, Gaines has a bachelor
of arts degree in art history from Florida State University.
IRA LAUREN, a native of Salzburg, lived for 16
years in Cairo, where she played the violin. The soprano
took singing and dancing lessons and graduated from
Lee Strasberg School in Los Angeles. She studied voice
education in Vienna with Gerhard Kahry and collaborated
with Walter Berry. She took part in recitals and Opera
productions in America, Austria, Germany, Italy, Belgium,
The Netherlands, Egypt, Spain, and Scandinavia. She was
also involved in Operetta productions and gala concerts and
has performed in CD and video recordings. In 2005, Lauren
sang Operetta arias at the First Viennese Opera Ball in
Dubai. She is a regular guest of DaCapo-productions touring
through Europe, presenting Viennese Operetta arias and
duets and Broadway on Ice. Lauren sings an Italian aria in a
film scheduled to be released this year.
BRENT BOMMENTRE is a two-time Bronze
National medalist in ice dance with partner Kim Navarro.
They represented the United States at the World
Championships in 2008 and 2010 and won the Bronze
medal at the Four Continents Championship in 2008.
Bommentre has skated in two European tours of Holiday
on Ice’s Festival with Navarro. The Philadelphia native
currently performs in Sun Valley on Ice and is working with
Ice Theater of New York on its new show, Ice: Dance. He
recently appeared on Glee, performed for the first time with
Stars on Ice, and competed on NBC’s America’s Got Talent as
a part of Aerial Ice.
MARC-OLIVIER BOSSE, a long-time member
of the Canadian National figure-skating team, competed
on the international scene for many years before going
professional in 2006. His roots and his home are in
Montreal, but he enjoys touring the world to share his
passion and draw inspiration from other cultures. He
constantly seeks new ideas from different dance traditions
and styles. When he is not skating or choreographing, Bosse
is studying contemporary dance and engages his gymnastic
background to perfect his aerial circus skills. For Bosse, the
