CLARK GUNDLACH: LORE, LEGENDS, AND OUTLOOKS FROM THE SIA BOARD’S BOARDERS By: Tessa Malsam Mon, Jan 7 2013 As part of our series on the SIA Board of Director’s Boarders, we caught up with the SIA Board Third Vice Chair, SVP of Wintersports Quiksilver GM Clark Gundlach.

When did you join the SIA board? I’ve been a board member since 2011. What are your goals in steering SIA’s direction to better support the sport of snowboarding and its retailers and brands? The membership of the SIA Board of Directors is designed to provide a voice from all segments of the industry. I’m partnered in the Board with several other snowboard industry leaders, and our collective voice resonates load and clear for what’s in the best interest of the sport, our retailers, and the snowboard brand community. It’s also our responsibility as board members to work together as a team to direct the strategic decisions towards what’s best for the entire SIA membership. My goals are simple – advocate and provide a voice that supports the snowboard manufactures and retailer network. What resources does SIA offer retailers that they might not know about? I’m often amazed by the many benefits of an SIA membership. Members can use SIA as a resource in their logistics, travel, insurance, marketing/PR, sourcing and raw materials, and human resources. SIA also provides insightful and up-to-date market intelligence and sales performance reporting. No other global snowsports marketplace has the detail and scope of industry reporting that SIA can provide. My advice; visit snowsports.org and spend a few minutes navigating thru all that SIA offers as a benefit of membership. How has the snowboard side of the show changed since you began coming and what are your goals for the future? Every year is an evolution. Every show brings new products, great innovation, fresh brands, and tech advancement. If you miss the SIA Show you miss the once a year opportunity to be in front of your snowsports business. Stay in front of your snowsports business – don’t miss the show. What tips do you have for retailers attending the show to make the most of it? Come with a plan and make time to explore.

SIA 2013 kicks off in Denver, CO with a first look at next year’s best products By: Jonathan Glass January 31st, 2013 The 2013 SIA Snow Show officially kicked off Thursday as the best brands in snowboarding came together to show off their latest and greatest products for 2014. The Snowboard Mag team hit the trade show floor with excitement as we went booth to booth talking with the men and women behind next year’s gear. We felt like little kids on Christmas morning as we got the scoop on what’s new for 2014. Here are the highlights from day one: Quiksilver continues the always popular Travis Rice line with his latest, top-of-the-line GORE- TEX jacket with a colorway inspired by Greek pigment dyes. Another jacket to point out is the Cory Arnold (renowned National Geographic photographer and Deadliest Catch deckhand) entry-level jacket that rocks a unique Seagull print that might seem odd when you hear about it, but up close is one of the coolest prints we’ve seen. http://snowboardmag.com/stories/gear/sia-2013-kicks-off-in-denver-co-with-a-first-look-at-next-years-best-products

Saturday At SIA: Photos, Videos, & More By Mike Lewis Sat, Feb 2 2013

The new Travis Rice gear from Quik was looking pretty on point.

We were digging the Ridgemont Jacket from the Roxy Premium collection with wax detailing and waterproof material.

A look at Torah Bright's new collection, which features a jacket with an extra large hood and magnetic closure to lock in warmth, and the slim fit extra flexible pant.

Roxy had a good offering of outerwear, including these pants with a special yoga band waist and Gore Tex Pro.

Next Year's Ski and Snowboard Gear By: Colin Bane 2/6/2013 Torah Bright Luminous Jacket By ROXY

Torah Bright will likely be outfitted in a Team Australia uniform next year to defend her 2010 Olympic halfpipe gold, but in the meantime she'll be rocking this signature jacket, a do-it-all piece to match Bright's ride-it-all approach. She's calling her new snowboard philosophy "totally boarding" and says she's also hoping to compete in the Olympic debut of slopestyle in Sochi as well as filming both big mountain lines and urban jib missions in the coming year. 6 Trends We Loved at the Snowsports Industries America Trade Show

Happy Friday, guys! I've had a pretty awesome week, in Colorado to do a little snowboarding and attend the Snowsports Industries America Show Show, the big trade show where more than 900 brands present their lines of equipment, apparel and accessories for next year's (2013-2014) winter season. I had a ton of fun checking out all the different gear, including some super artsy skis and snowboards (and evenskateboards!). But I was also scouting out the latest in fashion and tech, too. Here's a sneak peak at some cool trends all across the snowsports markets next fall and winter--and some of my favorite examples from the show. Yoga-Inspired Fashion Thumbholes have infiltrated the snowsports industry! They'll be everywhere next ski season, along with other features borrowed from the yoga studio--like the comfy, wide-waisted inner band on Roxy's upcoming Espionage pants. http://www.self.com/blogs/flash/2013/02/snowsports-trends-for-next-year.html
