2012 Scientific Abstracts and Reviewers

Scientific Session Objectives

As a result of attending scientific sessions, participants should be able to:

1. Analyze current research in interventional radiology2. Identify current and future technical and clinical de-

velopments3. Identify new research methods and areas requiring

further investigation

The Society of Interventional Radiology is an ac-credited provider of continuing medical education through the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medi-cal Education (ACCME) and is required to obtain dis-closure statements from all presenters. It is SIR policy that presenters who currently have, or have had within the last 12 months, an affiliation or financial relationship with companies or organizations about whose products or services they are reporting (or discussing), disclose such affiliations and relationships to the audience.

In addition, in order to maintain high standards of professional integrity and ethics, SIR requires that fac-ulty fully disclose to their audiences any discussion of the unlabeled use of a commercial product, device, or

pharmaceutical that has not been approved for such pur-pose by the FDA. Presenters will be encouraged to in-clude this information on their presentation slides. A list of presenters who have nothing to disclose will be avail-able on site, as well as the specifics of the full disclosure, which the presenters have indicated.

Scientific Abstracts

Abstracts for the 2012 Annual Scientific Meeting are listed by category as scientific presentations or posters. Posters are further categorized as scientific posters or educational exhibits. Two hundred and ninety-five ab-stracts will be presented in the Scientific Sessions, Ple-nary Sessions and Categorical Courses covering all areas of Vascular and Non-vascular Interventional Radiology. 160 abstracts will be on display as posters located in the Moscone Center North Lobby. Attendees are invited to the Poster Reception on Tuesday, March 27 at 6:00 p.m. where poster authors will be available for questions and discussion.

Scientific Sessions

Scientific Sessions will be held Sunday, March 25 through Wednesday, March 28 in rooms 121 and 122 at

the Moscone Center North. During this time, authors representing 25 countries from the global IR community will present the latest scientific research in interventional radiology.

Distinguished Abstracts

Continued in 2012, the Annual Scientific Meeting Com-mittee has identified 11 abstracts as Distinguished Ab-stracts to be presented in Plenary Sessions and Categori-cal Courses. The Distinguished Abstract designation was created this year to highlight the best scientific work sub-mitted to the meeting based on its overall quality, timeli-ness and content

Featured Abstracts

The SIR 37th Annual Scientific Meeting continues the tradition of designating exceptional abstracts in the Sci-entific Sessions as Featured Abstracts. These abstracts are identified with a gray outline on the following pages.

Scientific Posters

Scientific Posters are recognized by the Society of Inter-ventional Radiology as an important part of the scien-tific program and are as highly regarded as oral presen-tations. Scientific Posters and Educational Exhibits will be on display for review by meeting attendees Sunday through Wednesday during the meeting.

Late Breaking Abstracts

After a five-year absence, SIR 2012 sees the return of Late Breaking Abstracts. These abstracts consist of re-search from clinical trials and other studies that impact clinical care, in which data was not available at the time of the regular submission deadline. Approximately one dozen abstracts were selected for oral presentation in this

highly competitive category. Check the SIR 2012 An-nual Scientific Meeting website at www.SIRmeeting.org for presentation times and locations. The Late Breaking Abstracts will be published in a forthcoming issue of the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology.

Poster Awards

Another continued feature of the 2012 SIR Annual Scientific Meeting will be the announcement of poster award recipients at the Scientific Poster Reception. Poster award recipients will be announced Tuesday, March 27 at 6:00 p.m.

SIR Foundation Research Grants and Awards

Denotes scientific abstracts from research partially or fully funded by SIR Foundation.

n Resident/Fellow Research Award

Denotes that the abstract’s presenting author was select-ed as one of SIR Foundation’s Radiology Resident/Inter-ventional Radiology Fellow Research Award recipients.

n Dr. Constantin Cope Medical Student Research Award

Denotes that the abstract’s presenting author was select-ed as one of the SIR Foundation’s Dr. Constantin Cope Medical Student Research Award recipients.
