The Colt 1991 Series is a direct descendant o the original Colt M1911.

A long trigger, fat mainspring housing and original style recoil spring

system remain rom the original M1911 design. Upgrades rom the

original include white dot sights and a lowered ejection port or extra

The History of Colt EngravingSam Colt began a heritage o elabo rate embellishment and engraving o frearms that continues to this day, setting the standard or custom frearms fnishing throughout

the world. In the 1830s, when Sam Colt invented the frst practical revolver, he recognized the value o an exquisitely embellished frearm. Colt employed some o

the fnest engravers and cratsmen to de corate deluxe presentation pistols created or oreign dignitaries, monarchs and militar y o cials. In 1839, Colonel Colt hired

Waterman Ormsby, the creator o cylinder scenes, one o the most distinctive eatures on Colt revolvers. Beginning i n 1854, Colts reputation or producing unctional

and beautiul frearms was enhanced by the artistry o Gustave Young, Carl Helrecht, L.D. Nimshke , and other cratsmen whose skill and expertise he justifably reliedon. Custom engraving and other decorative touches brought aesthetic quality to a machine-made frearm that not only enhanced the appearance, but the overall value

as well. Today, the Colt Custom Gun Shop continues the tradition o custom engraving that helped to earn Sam Colt his well deserved reputation.

The Colt Custom Shop can assist you in designing and creating your one-o-a-

still used by civilia ns, law enorcement and military orces today. The 1911 is the best known o John Browning designs to use the short recoil principle

in its basic design. In addition to the pistol being widely copied, this operating system rose to become the pre-eminent design o the 20th century and
