MPS MCAII (State Test) Reading proficiencyincreased 4% compared to 2010 and increased 5%over the past two years. The State of MNincreased 3% in two years.
The largest gains relative to the State were ingrade 8 where MPS increased 8% while the Stateincreased 1% over two years.

A new MCAI I I test was administered in grades 3-8in 2010-11. MPS MCAI I I (State Test ) Mathproficiency decreased 8% compared to 2009-10.The State of MN Math proficiency decreased 9% incompared to last year.
These decreases are likely due to more rigorousproficiency cut-scores and/or more difficult items
on the new MCAIII tests.
I n grade 11 the State math test remained thesame ( i.e., MCAI I ) . MPS MCAI I math proficiency
increased 7% while the State increased 6% ingrade 11. 5

All Students of Color groups showed substantialincreases in MCAI I reading scores over the pasttwo years.
Afr ican American student reading proficiencyincreased 6% in the past year and 7% over t woyears.
Asian student reading proficiency increased 5% in
the past year and 7% over t wo years.7

All racial/ ethnic groups showed substant ialdecreases in Math Proficiency on t he MCAI I I likelydue to more rigorous proficiency cut scores and/ormore difficult items on this new State test .
American I ndian student proficiency decreasedmore than White students.
African American, Asian and Hispanic students
decreased proficiency somewhat less than Whitestudents.9
