Activities

Chestnut Ridge is a Christian camp related by faith to The United Methodist Church. Chestnut Ridge is a ministry of NC United Methodist Camp & Retreat Ministries, Inc., an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Campers do participate in worship and small group time each day. While we reject any attempt to manipulate or push religion, we earnestly seek to present and live out a vibrant, active Christian faith that is inviting, life-giving, and transformative. Campers of all religious traditions or of no religious tradition are welcome.

United Methodist

Care for God’s Creation, both the Earth and our neighbors, is at the core of what it means to be Christian. Chestnut Ridge has established numerous environmental initiatives to create sustainable practices such as recycling, composting food waste, use of biodiesel in vehicles, and organic agriculture. The Community Farm at Chestnut Ridge grows fruits, vegetables, and livestock without the use of pesticides or hormones. Campers help to plant the crops and care for the animals before enjoying the harvest in the dining hall. It doesn’t get much more local than our own backyard!

Care for Creation

Chestnut Ridge is proud to be serving real food. We are commited to purchasing food free of trans-fats, MSG, artificial colors and flavors, and high fructose corn syrup. We are increasing our use of organic and fair-trade products in our made-from-scratch meals. In addition, we are supporting local farms with values that are in accord with our own. These farmers care enough to use the best ingredients for our health, the health of our communities, and the health of God’s Creation.
