Welcome from Mark Lovley, Chairman of the ShowLovley Development, Inc.

As this year’s Chairman, I would like to welcome you to the 63rd Original Connecticut Home & Remodeling Show at the Connecticut Convention Center. I am very excited about this year’s show and the new additions that you will see at southern New England’s largest Home Show.

This is the show produced by the experts – the Home Builders Association. The Home Builders Association (HBA) of Hartford County represents builders, remodelers, and associated trades from Hartford, Middlesex, and Tolland counties. Since 1948, the HBA, and its members, have taken pride in producing this annual event that showcases state of the art building and remodel-ing products and services. With over 600 booths and hundreds of exhibits, you will discover a world of ideas brought to you by the local professionals who know homes.

This year we are showcasing Energy Efficiency – make sure you visit the amazing home that we have built with the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund. Throughout the Show you will find thousands of inspiring products and services to transform your home; and hundreds of solutions to help save money and make your home more efficient. From the simplest do-it-yourself repairs, to major changes that will save thousands of dollars you can find it here.

I want to thank all of the members of the Home Show Committee, and members of the HBA, who have volun-teered hundreds of hours to produce this year’s show. They have continued the tradition of producing the finest Home Show in the region. I also want to thank our sponsors: Aqua Pool & Patio, the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund, Farmington Bank, Cedar Mountain Stone & Mulch and Nicolock, Liberty Bank, and Toyota. Look for our presenting media sponsor Comcast, WFSB Ch. 3, CBS Radio stations, and the Hartford Courant.

Don’t build, buy or remodel without it.

Energy Efficiency DisplayThanks to more durable roof coverings, insulated windows, increased insulation, high-efficiency heating, cooling, and water heating equipment, efficient lighting and many more technological advances, homes built today are 100 percent more energy efficient than homes built in the 1970s. Making your home more energy efficient can help to reduce high energy bills, improve comfort and help to protect the environment. At the Home Energy Showcase, you will learn about making your home more energy efficient and see energy- efficient products on display and in use. The Home Builders Association has partnered with the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund to present this amazing display that features many of the latest technologies for your home that can help you save money while also helping the environment. Please make sure to pick up the Home Energy Showcase Guide before you enter the home. Inside the display you will see home heating systems in the basement, the latest in lighting and home technol-ogy in the kitchen, and various insulation techniques and window systems to provide the best energy efficiency for your new or remodeled home. Also make sure to visit the Blower Door testing room to see how a home is tested for air infiltration.

Blower Door Test: How They WorkA blower door is a powerful fan that mounts into the frame of an exterior door. The fan pulls air out of the house, lowering the air pressure inside. The higher outside air pressure then flows in through all unsealed cracks and openings. The auditors may use a smoke pencil to detect air leaks. These tests determine the air infiltration rate of a building.

The Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund was established to make it easy for residents and businesses get in the habit of using energy more efficiently – to save money, energy and the environment. Created to address Connecticut’s rapidly growing energy needs and costs, the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund has a variety of award-winning innovative programs and services enabling everyone, even if indirectly, to benefit from Connecti-cut’s energy efficiency programs.

All of Connecticut’s residents have opportunities to save energy and money through Fund programs and services. Whether they purchase a discounted compact fluorescent light bulb, redeem an ENERGY STAR® rebate, participate in an in-home energy assessment and weatherization program, or even build the “green” home of their dreams, every action makes a difference.

Home Energy SolutionsResidents can lower their energy bill with just one, in-home visit. A specialist will perform an energy assessment of the home, find and professionally seal critical leaks and drafts, replace incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescents light bulbs, provide and install water conservation devices and check insulation and appliances. Residents may also receive valuable rebate forms (including rebates for geothermal system performance and for the installation of high-efficiency central air conditioning and heat pump systems), and information on additional energy-saving measures.

Residential New ConstructionHomeowners can build the home of their dreams while earning incentives for energy efficient construction and geothermal heat pumps. This program will help homeowners achieve the greatest level of energy efficiency by using reliable, advanced building techniques and high-quality materials.

Heating and Cooling Your HomeThe Fund provides valuable incentives for purchasing and installing electric central air conditioning, geothermal heat pumps or ductless heat pump systems that meets the required energy efficiency ratings.

ENERGY STAR

Did you know that compact fluorescent bulbs use 75% less energy than incandescent bulbs; yet they give off the same amount of light? ENERGY STAR-labeled light fixtures are designed to save energy and lower your monthly electric bills, without sacrificing comfort and quality. In addition to lighting, ENERGY STAR-qualified appliances can also help you save money on your energy bills by reducing your energy consumption. Make sure to visit the exciting Home Energy Showcase in the feature area and see the latest technologies for your home.
