2009 President’s Message

Welcome to all of you, and congratulations on being part of this historic occasion – the 25th annual “Dream Auction”!

25 years ago a small group of Rotarians put their heads together and decided to “take a chance” in putting on a gala fund-raising event. They were hoping to raise $5,000, and were overjoyed when the auction brought in $10,000 for community projects. 25 years later and that first $10,000 has turned into just under $2.0 million! What an achievement!

Skateboard parks, the Water Park, the Science Centre, NONA, Hospice House – the beneficiaries over the years are too numerous to mention, and we would be hard pressed to find someone in Vernon who hasn’t benefited from at least one of the projects made possible by your generous support of this event. This year, the theme for our Rotary District is “Hands Working Together”, and this truly speaks to the many people who work together every year to make this evening a success. Our major recipient this year is once again the Vernon Jubilee Hospital’s Paediatric Wing and we’re sure that every person in the room is willing to open their wallets in support of this cause!

Twenty-five year anniversary’s only come around once – so let’s make this evening to remember! Enjoy the dinner, the wine, the room full of wonderful people, and remember to raise those paddles high in support of your community!
