During Testing

• Monitor testing activities – active proctoring.

• Check test materials in and out to Test Administrators.

• Maintain an accurate inventory of all testing materials throughout the test administration window.

• Be sure to have a system that identifies who actually tested and submitted a test answer document. **

Testing Issues

• When in doubt …call Cindy Hurley 225-5418!

• Call Cindy to report any and all inappropriate testing incidents.

• Use the Testing Incident Report Form provided in your packet and return to Cindy.

• Inappropriate handling of incidents may result in liability issues.

If A Test Needs To Be Invalidated

• Only The Arizona Department of Education can make the determination to invalidate a test.

• When a testing issue occurs notify Cindy Hurley (225-5418) as soon as possible and then she will get guidance from ADE.

• The Arizona Department of Education recommends that the student’s parents or guardians receive written notification of the incident and its consequences.

Test Administrators:

• Must be an employee of your school.

• Must verify quantities of material they receive.

• Request additional materials from site test coordinator.

• Distribute, collect, and verify all test materials on testing dates.

• Assemble and return test materials to site test coordinator.

Test Administrators are required to:

• Attend training activities scheduled by the Site Test Coordinator.

• Read and sign a security agreement.

• Adhere to all test administration security procedures.

• Follow test administration directions exactly as stated in the Test Administration Directions.

• Read the test administration script aloud to the student exactly as stated in the Test Administration Directions.

Security Procedures

It is unethical and shall be viewed as a violation of test security for any person to:

• Examine the content of any portion of the test.

• Disclose or allow to be disclosed the content of any portion of the test before, during, or after test administration.

• Allow students access to test questions or writing prompts prior to testing.

• Allow students to share information during test administration.

Security Procedures, cont.

It is unethical and shall be viewed as a violation of test security for any person to:

• Allow students to use scratch paper on the AIMS.

• Read any parts of the test to students except as indicated in the test administration directions.

• Influence students’ answers by offering assistance of any kind.

• Change students’ answer choices.

Security Procedures, cont.

It is unethical and shall be viewed as a violation of test security for any person to:

• Review students’ answers, including the writing rough draft and writing final copy.

• Photocopy, transcribe, or in any way duplicate any part of the AIMS test books.

• Fail to return all test materials, including unused documents.

• Participate in, direct, aid, counsel, assist in, encourage, or fail to report any violations of these test administration security procedures.

Test Administrators – AIMS Schedule

• AIMS is not a timed test.

• Testing session is complete only when the allotted time for the session has ended or when all students present have finished the session.

• Student may bring personal reading materials or class work for use if they finish before the allotted time has ended.

• Students who need additional time must be allowed to continue testing.

• No AIMS testing session may carry over to the next school day.

Test Administrators – Prepare Room

• A supply of sharpened, standard, wooden, graphite-based No. 2 pencils with erasers.

• A pencil sharpener or an additional supply of pencils.

• A “Testing – Do Not Disturb” sign.

• Commercially published dictionaries and thesauri for AIMS writing test only.

• Translation dictionaries for those ELLs who are eligible for this standard accommodation.

Precautions

• Do not photocopy the test books or the answer documents.

• Do not disassemble or pull pages from the answer documents.

• Do not use “sticky” notes, paperclips, tape, staples, or glue on the answer documents.

• Do not insert loose papers into the answer documents.

• Do not tape or glue additional paper into the answer documents.

Precautions, cont.

• Do not allow students to use extra paper to write their responses for the AIMS writing test. Only answers that are handwritten in pencil on the pages designated “Final Copy” will be scored.

• Do not allow students to use correction fluid on the answer documents.

• Test materials that have been contaminated with blood, vomit, or other bodily fluids are to be returned to the site test coordinator to be destroyed.

Students Who Leave Room During Testing

• Students should remain in the testing room during the entire scheduled testing session.

• Students may be allowed to go to the restroom, if necessary, during testing.

• Only one student may leave at a time.

• Collect student’s test materials before the student leaves the room and then give materials back to the student upon returning to the room.

Students Who Leave School During Testing

• Students who need to leave school before completing a particular testing session, including those students who leave due to illness, are ineligible to continue the test for that testing session.

• The Test Administrator should inform the student that he / she will not be permitted to finish that testing session when the student returns to school.

• The test administrator should then collect the student’s test materials.

• Even if a student does not finish a session, the test materials must be returned for scoring.

Students Who Leave School During Testing

• The Arizona Department of Education recommends that documentation identifying the time the student left the testing room and the reason for leaving early be kept and then later attached to the student’s test report.

• If the student returns to school for a different testing session, the student is permitted to test in the different testing session.

Disruptive Students

• Students who disrupt testing, refuse to participate, receive help from others, or otherwise engage in behavior not consistent with acceptable classroom behavior should be subject to the disciplinary procedures established by the school for such occurrences.

• Whenever possible, the disruptive or misbehaving student should be allowed to continue testing in a different location so that other students may test undisturbed.

• The Arizona Department of Education recommends that the student’s parents or guardians receive written notification of the incident and its consequences.

• AIMS Writing - Official Six Trait Rubric wall posters . - Several copies of a commercially published

dictionary and thesaurus.

• TerraNova - Use of punch-out rulers that have been provided.

• Translation Dictionaries for eligible ELLs

Unacceptable Resources

• Math manipulatives, charts, and aids, including but not limited to a ruler, number line, compass, and an abacus, may not be used on any portion of the AIMS or TN.

• Electronic devices, including but not limited to computers, calculators, cell phones, digital watches, personal digital assistants, and portable music players, are prohibited during testing and should not be permitted in the testing room.

• Dictionaries and thesauri during the AIMS reading or mathematics test.

Use of Scratch Paper

• Use of scratch paper is a test violation for AIMS . - Students may write in the test booklets if they they need to. - Be careful with the 3rd grade consumables that students don’t write too near the bubbles or near the timing marks on the sides of the pages.

• Use of scratch paper is okay though for TerraNova.

• Most students will have a precoded Student Information Sheet (SIF) – no demographics need to be filled in. This SIF must be placed behind the front cover of the test book when the tests are returned. Do not remove them.

• If there is no precoded SIF for a student, then student-identifying information will need to be filled in by school personnel. Follow the directions on pgs. 6-7 of the Test Directions to enter the information in by hand.

• If a student has used an accommodation, then boxes AA must be filled in on their answer document – see slides 55 & 56.
