High Frequency Words (sight words ) : live, most, only, sound, work, year Phonics Readers (These books are on our class webpage for you to review with your child.) : “Bill’s Pal Jill” & “The Cats and the Foxes” Writing : Personal Narrative – Powerful Sentences Vocabulary : Reading: welcome, lesson, spelling bee, champs, common, horror, took, rack, backpack, pulled, creepy, porch Listening & Speaking: trampoline, satisfied, wondering, disgusting, ingredients, pretended Vocab Skill : Antonyms Charact er Development : What are different ways to solve our problems with others? Character Development Vocabulary : enemy, pretend Character Development Focus/Concept : Treating an enemy with kindness, generosity, and humor can sometimes break a cycle of conflict. Social Studies: Civics – Patriotic Symbols - Notable people, places, holidays and patriotic symbols Students will be learning about various patriotic and Colorado state symbols to include the U.S. flag, Colorado flag, bald eagle and the national anthem. We will also discuss significant places such as the Capitol, White House and Statue of Liberty. In light of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday, we will talk about why he was an important influence in our history. Reminders: Homework goes home on Monday and is due on Friday unless you need the weekend to complete it. Spelling, High Frequency Word, and Vocabulary Assessments are at the end of each week. January 16 th – No School – Martin Luther King Jr. Day January 21 st – Chinese New Year Celebration @ the City Auditorium in Downtown Colorado Springs from 10am – 4pm. That’s Bill Neff. Bill’s six. That’s his fine new home. “I live in that home with Mom and Dad,” said Bill. Bill’s mom and dad like their new home. Only Bill is sad. Bill left his best pal, Jeff, at his last home. “I miss Jeff! I miss him most!” said Bill. “When will I make a new pal, like Jeff?” Bill’s mom gave Bill a big hug and kiss. Then Mom said, “In time, you will find a pal, Bill.” One day Bill met Jill. “Will you hide?” said Jill. “We can get Bill, if Bill will hide!” said Jill with a yell. Now Bill’s not sad. Jill is Bill’s pal! It will be fun for Bill and Jill.
