Generally the response was favorable from the women, who all admitted they hated to "stand and wait." The men grumbled a bit, but, come on guys, haven't you spent lots of time waiting for women? You should be used to this by now!I Lori Jorgensen topped the women's field in a time of 17:43, sending Rich Mattey off to a 30-second head start. The rest of the men took off as partners arrived, and bringing up the rear in fine style were Peg Heisler and Hank Buchanan, finishing ahead of everyone who stayed home in a time of 1 : 1 0 . W h e n a l l w a s s a i d a n d d o n e , t h e t e a m s o f P a s c a l a n d Sarah Sauvayre, Mary Tolson and Charles Creel, and Jennifer Gilberti and Tommy Neeson had taken first, second amd third place overall. (Complete results in this issue.) T h a n k s t o B e r n i e & J o a n D e i t r i c k , t h e t i m i n g w a s d o n e m o r e efficiently so that in addition to a combined time, each runner got an individual time as well. Each age-group winner received a pair of socks (a welcome improvement over medals and trophies that become dust-collectors). Swedish massages a la Lori Jorgensen and still more socks were raffled off to random finishers and volunteers alike. And, the piece de resistance: Gary Steinel's cheesecake and champagne (it wouldn't be a couples relay without this!) won by Carmelo Roldan and May Chou. Carmelo came to the Christmas party with the cake, but May left with her champagne and was not seen again (a smart move. May, it w o u l d n ' t h a v e l a s t e d l o n g a r o u n d t h i s g r o u p ! ! ) Thanks to race directors Steve Calidonna and Colleen Law, and to volunteers Judy and Ed Hetkowski, Bernie and Joan Deitrick, John Hallinan, and Rod Schnell. Special thanks to Lori Jorgensen for donating massages as a raffle gift, and to Gary for baking the delicious cheesecake. The Christmas party following the race was held at the VFW Hall in Yorktown. Hank B. gave lessons in how to shoot pool to Norma, Justin Einhorn and some of the runners. Colleen Law brought in salad,- ziti and eggplant parmigiana. Everyone enjoyed the cheesecake that Carmelo so generously donated. A l l i n a l l , t h i s w a s a g r e a t w a y t o o f fi c i a l l y e n d 1 9 9 0 . On November 25th, the Taconic Masters ranat Van Cortlandt Park in in the Bronx. This raceis three loops of the regular 5K course. It is oneof the oldest races on the circuit and was dedicated to Pete McCardle, who died several yearsago while running this historic course. There wasa short ceremony in memory of Pete, nicely doneby Curt Steiner. Recognition was given to hiswife, daughter and granddaughter before the race.

Taconic Masters runners were: Bob Hermesch4th overall with a time of 56:12 followed closelyby John Holland, 5th place (56:20), then cameHowie Bashant (58: + ), myself (59: + ), Joe

Porcaro (59: + ) and Carmelo Roldan. Althoughwe had gone down to run as a team, we laterfound out there was no team award. A pack of five runners forced the early pace andYorklown's I'oinmy Neeson paid the price of making abold move on the opening hill of the Peeksskill coursebefore wving way to the two-man force of Church andM i l l e r .

With a half i^c to go, Church held a ten-yard lead, but Miller cut it in half before losing ground again onthe sand-covered portion 400 yards from the finish. I'hcBrewster runner, who had just come off the New Yorkmarathon the previous week, made one last attempt tocatch Church, but to no avail. Church won out m 17minutes, 27 seconds with Miller two seconds back.

lony Galfano, Peekskill, who had also completedNew York, ran a fine, steady race and finished third in18:04. His third place also gave him a successful defenseof TRRC's masters cross country title. Joann Bertram,Mahopac, claimed the women's masters.3 P

Peekskill runners Colleen Law and Mary Lund ranstep for step tlirougli the women's race and finishedclose enough for a tie. Ofiicials, however, opted for Lawin the narrowest of margins, timed in 22:41. BrieMeisler, Cold Spring, was third.

Adam Casclla, Mahopac, and Elizabeth Phelps,Peekskill, started the day off with wins in the 1/4 milefor the 5- and 6-ycar-olds. Dennis Robinson, PutnamValley, and I^uren Melillo, Yorktown, then capturedthe hal f mi le for 7 and 8s.

In the 3/4 mile for 9- and lO-year-olds, Yorktown'sWes C'adman repeated the win he had in Somers, withJennifer Franks taking the ^I's race. Bonnie JeanRegan then won the mile for 11 and 12s, finisliing second overall to Joseph Gianelli, also of Mahopac.Gianelli's win marked the first lime any of the boys hadbeaten Regan, and it took a real smart and gutsy runby Gianelh to turn the trick.
