Institution Description The Museum of Photographic Arts (http://www.mopa.org) was founded on May 1, 1983, in historic Balboa Park as one of the first museum facilities in the United States designed exclusively to collect and present the world's finest examples of photographic art.<br><br>MOPA's Photography Collection of nearly 7,000 works of art spans the history of lens-based media from the early camera lucida drawings of John Herschel to contemporary digital images. The Photography Collection includes the broadest representation of photographic processes from daguerreotypes and salt prints, to gelatin silver prints and digital pigment prints. The Photography Collection represents works from around the world, including works from Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.<br><br>It should be specifically noted that artists or designated assignors may retain copyright or other intellectual property rights to the photographs and other material in the Collections of the Museum of Photographic Arts, which are protected under the laws of various counties and applicable international treaties. The Museum of Photographic Arts respects the intellectual property rights held by others.<br><br><strong>Image Requests</strong><br>If you would like to reproduce an image from the Photography Collection of the Museum of Photographic Arts, you will need to obtain written permission in advance.
