RegulationDependent on fuel, burner size andrequirements, the regulation of air andfuel is by:

• Two and three stageThe oil side of dual fuel burners has anozzle assemble with two or threenozzles. A change in firing rate iseffected by opening and closing ofsolenoid valves 2 and 3 with therelevant air volume.

• Sliding two stageFor sliding two stage control, partialand full load are set positions withinthe regulation range. The burner’s firing rate slides between the two loadpoints, depending on the heat demand. Thus there are no suddenlarge increases or decreases in theamount of fuel used.

• ModulationModulating burners operate at anypoint within the regulation range, depending on the heat demand.

Reduced capacity at start-upThe burners start at ignition load anadditional pilot line. In this way only asmall amount of gas flows into thecombustion chamber. After a short delaythe burner moves to partial loadoperation.

Controlled shut downs from partialloadControlled shut down of the burneralways takes place from the partial loadposition, thus preventing impact on thegas main.

Fuel / air ratioThe controlled mixing of fuel andcombustion air varies depending on thesize and type of burner:Size 30Burner types RGL and RGMS: Pressureside air regulation via a compoundregulated control sleeve in the mixing head.

Burner type GL: Pressure side airregulation via an adjustable controlsleeve in the mixing head for capacityadjustment.Sizes 40 to 70Burner types GL, RGL and RGMS:Pressure side air regulation via acompound regulated control sleeve inthe mixing head.Heavy oil burnersHeavy oil burners are fitted with oilpreheaters which control the oiltemperature to keep it at the necessaryviscosity for good atomisation. Beforethe burner starts, a temperaturecontrolled sequence programme heatsthe nozzle to the same operatingtemperature by circulating preheated oilthrough the nozzle head.

Valve trainsTo comply with EN 676 burners must beequipped with two solenoid valves.Weishaupt gas and dual fuel burners areequipped with two Class A solenoidvalves (DMV) as standard. The W-FM100 combustion manager provides forvalve proving when an additional gaspressure switch is fitted. Other gas sideaccessories such as gas filters and gaspressure regulators, can be found in theList of Accessories.

Digital combustion managementThe W-FM 100 and W-FM 200*combustion managers ensure the simpleand safe operation of combustion plant.

All important functions, such as fuel andair feed or flame monitoring arecontrolled with digital precision. The aimis the optimisation of operationalfunctions, the maximisation of economy, and the minimisation of emissions. Thanks to digital combustionmanagement such an optimisation isavailable today at limited cost. The outlayfor installation and service is substantiallylower than with conventionaltechnologies.

For example, a separate control panel forthe burner switchgear is no longernecessary. Furthermore, remoteoperation, diagnosis and monitoring ofthe plant can be realised. That makesthings safer and simpler for the operator.

ApplicationsThe burners can be used with heatexchangers such as hot water boilers, steam boilers, air heaters, and for certainprocess applications. As the burners arecapable of overcoming high combustionchamber resistances, they are usedprimarily on modern high rated boilers.

FuelsOil side (Fuel Oil DIN 51 603):Light fuel oil (EL)Viscosity 6 mm2/s at 20°CMedium and heavy fuel oil (S)Viscosity up to 50 mm2/s at 100°C

The advantages of digital combustion management

Digital combustion managementmeans optimal combustion figures, continually reproducible settingfigures, and ease of use.

Weishaupt burners are equipped withelectronic compound and digitalcombustion management since moderncombustion technologies demand aprecise, continually reproducible dosingof fuel and combustion air. Only in thisway can optimal combustion figures beensured over extended periods.

If required, the burners can also beequipped with O2 trim* and speedcontrol.

Error free operation via a clear textdisplay.Setting and control of the burnerfunctions is achieved using a control anddisplay unit with a clear text display. TheCDU is linked to the combustionmanager via a safety bus system and canbe placed anywhere the user chooseswithin 100 m of the burner.

Flexible communication possibilitiesThe inbuilt interface enables allnecessary information and functions tobe relayed to a BMS system. If required,a modem enables a telephoneconnection to be installed for remoteoperation (e.g. oil/gas change-over,adjustment of setting values) and remotediagnosis.

Communication with external systemsvia Bus.If data has to be exchanged betweenburners and other heating systems withPLC devices, Weishaupt E-Gate acts asa gateway and translates the eBusprotocol into the standard Profibus DPprotocol.

* Available early 2004 in conjunction with the W-FM 200 combustion manager

Integration with building managementFor the control and management level,Weishaupt offers ProGraf NT - asoftware product that provides a realtime solution to meet all requirements.

The price advantage of newtechnologyWith improved technology and ease ofuse, combustion plant is becoming evenmore economical.

• No additional burner controls arerequired, since this effected by thecombustion manager. Contactors andburner motor fuses are the only additional items required.

• Less installation work means fewererrors: the burners are tested as acomplete unit at the factory.

• No additional costs for valve proving.

• If required, the W-FM 100 can be fitted with a capacity regulator andspeed control module. No separateequipment is required. The capacityregulator and speed control moduleare included as standard with the W-FM 200.

• Commissioning and service worktakes less time. The initial pre-settingof the burner is carried out at the factory. On site, only the site specificload points have to be determined.

• To facilitate O2 trim, only an O2 probeand O2 module have to be installedand connected with the W-FM 200via the internal safety bus.

Proven quality in detail

Pressure side air regulationvia mixing head withcompound regulated controlsleeve

The forward and reverse movements ofthe regulating sleeve in the mixing headensure that that the air annulus is correctat every load point throughout thecapacity range. This results in optimumvelocities over the whole of the regulationrange. With this system, the mixingpressure is increased at partial load, improving the intermixture of fuel and air. This results in a reduction in excess airand improved combustion efficiency dueto the constant air/fuel ratio.

Increased safety via shut offassembly with solenoidvalve

The electromagnetically actuated safetyshut off device isolates the oil supply andreturn on burner types RGL40 to 70 andRGMS30 to 70 when the burner shutsdown. Oil shut off directly at the nozzleensures a drip free burner shut down.(Burner type RGL30 uses a systemwithout nozzle shut off).

Considerable noisereduction due to soundabsorbing air inlet

By fitting sound absorbing materials onthe fan suction side it has been possibleto reduce operational noise considerably.

Example regulation ranges for different burner types

Valve train sizing with DMV valves

The combustion chamber pressure in mbar must be added tothe minimum gas pressure required.

For low pressure supplies, pressure regulating devices withsafety membrane in accordance with EN 88 are used. Themaximum permissible supply pressure before the shut offvalve is 300 mbar.

For high pressure supplies, high pressure regulating devicesin accordance with EN 3380 can be selected from thebrochure ‘Pressure regulating units with safety assembliesfor Weishaupt gas and dual fuel burners’. This details highgas pressure sets suitable for supply pressures of up to 4bar.

See burner plate for maximum supply pressure.

* The figures given for size DN 40 also apply to 1 1/2” and thosefor DN 50 to 2” valve trains.

Pump and preheater stationsDescription

Included in delivery - pump stationsPump unit (screw spindle pump withmotor), pressure gauge, vacuum gauge, pressure regulating valve, ball valves, suction flange, pressure flange includingcounter flanges, screws and washers,suction-side filter. All parts fullyassembled on an oil drip tray.

The pump station is built as one of twodifferent versions - either as a singlestation unit with one pump, or as a twinstation unit with two pumps, one pumpbeing in reserve. Should the one pumpfail, it is possible to quickly switch over tothe other.

Only tried and tested makes of pump areused. The pumps are carefully matchedto the capacity of the burner.

Included in delivery - preheaterstationsPreheater stations are supplied fullyassembled on an oil drip tray. Thepreheater ensures the constantregulation of the preheat temperatureand thus the viscosity of the fuel oil.

There are two basic versions of thepreheater station available:

1. Electric preheating2. Medium preheating

WEV.. and MV.. type preheaters areused.

MV.. medium oil preheaterMedium preheaters are high capacity, forced circulation heat exchangers. Highcapacity is achieved with a compact, space saving construction. Hot water, steam or thermo fluid can be used asheating media. The oil preheatersguarantee substantially stable oiltemperatures and thus good combustionfigures. The oil temperature achieveddepends on the heating medium used.

When selecting and sizing, please referto the oil temperature diagrams inchapter 5.3 of the technical brochure“Weishaupt electric and medium oilpreheaters”, print No. 18. Weishauptmedium oil preheaters can be useduniversally. It is possible to change themedium at any time. The preheaters areused either alone or in conjunction withan electric oil preheater.

If operating steam at more than 7.5 bar orhot water between 180°C and 200°C iscontinuously available, then an electricpreheater is not required. This is alsopossible if plant with the above minimumpressures or temperatures can beoperated with distillate oil EL or gas.

If the medium temperature is notsufficient to adequately preheat the fueloil, then the electric oil preheater inputsthe additional heat required. The electricoil preheater heats the oil for the start upof the plant. If the required mediumtemperature is available then the stationswitches over to the medium oilpreheater thus saving on expensiveelectrical energy.

Suitable connection fittings for mediumoil preheaters can be selected, depending on the medium available. Ifmedium oil preheaters are providedwithout electric oil preheaters, amechanical temperature regulator mustbe used with the medium connectionfittings. The given prices do not includemedium connection fittings.

Air / gas separators or oil circulationtanksPatented air / gas separators orcirculation tanks are always required andmust be offered.

By using an air / gas separator orcirculation tank, it is possible for thepreheated oil from the burner return tobe mixed in with that of the burner supply. This results in an energy saving, as it isonly necessary to partially heat the fueloil.

Where one burner is operating ondistillate oil , it is possible to use a twopipe system so long as the suctionvacuum does not exceed 0.5 mbar. Ifseveral burners with air / gas separatorsor oil circulation tanks are being suppliedby a ring main, then it is a good idea toprovide a manually actuated double shutoff device with limit switch immediatelyafter the air / gas separator or circulationtank. The air / gas separator orcirculation tank must be selectedaccording to the ring main pump ratingand the burner size. When choosing ringmain pump units, please ensure that thecapacity is around 1.5 - 2 times thenozzle rating.

General instructionsWhen starting a boiler from a coldcondition with residual oil, an electric oilpreheater capacity must be provided forat least 30% of the boiler rating. On hotwater boilers up to 130°C operatingtemperature, the electric oil preheatersmust be able to produce the full boileroutput without medium preheaters. Useof a medium preheater is not suitable formedium temperatures below 100°C. Thenumber of media oil preheaters to beselected depends on the oil throughputand can be taken from the capacitycharts (see the technical brochure“Weishaupt electric and media oilpreheaters”).

Planning and installation instructionsAir / Gas separator, circulation tank, pump station and oil preheater stationmust be installed close to the burner.

On RGMS type burners, sizes 60 and70, the time required for oil circulationduring start up depends on the length ofthe pipework between the burner and theair gas separator or circulation tank.

The shorter the pipeline, the shorter theperiod between heat being called for andoil release / burner start after a controlledshutdown.
