1. ESTABLISHMENT OF APEDA The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority

(APEDA) was established by the Government of India under the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority Act passed by the Parliament in December, 1985. The Act (2 of 1986) came into effect from 13th February, 1986 by a notifi cation issued in the Gazette of India: Extraordinary: Part-II [Sec. 3(ii): 13.2.1986). The Authority replaced the Processed Food Export Promotion Council (PFEPC).

In terms of Chapter V Section 21(2) of the APEDA Act, a copy of the Annual Report of the Authority giving a true and full account of its activities, policy and programmes during the previous fi nancial year, is required to be presented annually to the Central Government for causing the same to be laid before each House of Parliament.

This is the 27th Anniversary Annual Report of Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and covers the fi nancial year 2012-13.

1.1 ASSIGNED FUNCTIONS In accordance with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export

Development Authority Act, 1985, (2 of 1986) the following functions have been assigned to the Authority.

a) Development of industries relating to the scheduled products for export by way of providing fi nancial assistance or otherwise for undertaking surveys and feasibility studies, participation in equity capital through joint ventures and other relieves and subsidy schemes;

b) Registration of persons as exporters of the scheduled products on payment of such fees as may be prescribed;

c) Fixing of standards and specifi cations for the scheduled products for the purpose of exports;

d) Carrying out inspection of meat and meat products in slaughter houses, processing plants, storage premises, conveyances or other places where such products are kept or handled for the purpose of ensuring the quality of such products;

e) Improving of packaging of the Scheduled products;

f) Improving of marketing of the Scheduled products outside India;

g) Promotion of export oriented production and development of the Scheduled products;

h) Collection of statistics from the owners of factories or establishments engaged in the production, processing, packaging, marketing or export of the scheduled products or from such other persons as may be prescribed on any matter relating to the scheduled products and publication of the statistics so collected or of any portions thereof or extracts there from;

i) Training in various aspects of the industries connected with the scheduled products;

j) Such other matters as may be prescribed.

1.2 PRODUCTS MONITORED

APEDA is mandated with the responsibility of export promotion and development of the following scheduled products:

1.3 COMPOSITION OF THE APEDA AUTHORITY

Two members appointed by the Central Government from amongst specialists and scientists in the fi eld of agriculture, economics and marketing of the scheduled products.

As prescribed by the statute, the APEDA Authority consists of the following members namely:

A Chairman, appointed by the Central Government;

The Agricultural Marketing Adviser to the Government of India, ex-offi cio;

One member appointed by the Central Government representing the Planning Commission;

Three members of Parliament of whom two are elected by the House of People and one by the Council of States;

Eight members appointed by the Central Government representing respectively; the Ministries of the

Central Govt. dealing with;

Five members appointed by the Central Government by rotation in the alphabetical order to represent the States and

the Union Territories;

1.4 ADMINISTRATIVE SET UPChairman of the Authority

Shri Asit Kumar Tripathy continued as Chairman during the entire fi nancial year.

Director

Shri S. Dave went on deputation to Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and relinquished the charge of Director on 31st July, 2012. He was replaced by Shri R.K. Boyal for rest of the fi nancial year.

Secretary

Shri Sunil Kumar continued as Secretary during the fi nancial year.

Offi cers and Staff of the Authority

Section 7 (3) of the APEDA Act provides for appointment of such offi cers and employees by the Authority as may be necessary for the effi cient performance of its functions.

During the period under review, the total number of employees in the organization was 85 as against the total sanctioned staff strength of 124. The category-wise break up of employees of the APEDA Authority was as follows:

The welfare and development of SC/ST employees is well looked after by the Authority. APEDA has no unresolved grievance from any SC/ST employees.

As per Govt. norms, the reservation for physically handicapped persons is 3% of the total strength in all grades. APEDA has a total sanctioned staff strength of 124 out of which two are physically handicapped employees. The requirement of 3% will be completed in subsequent recruitments.

1.5 APEDA VIRTUAL OFFICES APEDA has been serving the agri-export community for 27 years. To reach out to

the exporters in different parts of the country, in addition to 5 of its own Regional Offi ces, APEDA has set up 13 Virtual Offi ces at Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), Bhubaneshwar (Orissa), Srinagar (J&K), Chandigarh, Imphal (Manipur), Agartala (Tripura), Kohima (Nagaland), Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Raipur (Chattisgarh), Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) and Panaji (Goa) in association with respective State Governments/agencies. Basic information about APEDA, its functions, registration and fi nancial assistance schemes etc. is being made available to entrepreneurs/prospective exporters by these virtual offi ces.

1.6 COMPUTERIZATION OF VARIOUS ACTIVITIES IN APEDA 1. APEDA website was

regularly updated with latest Notifi cations / Trade Notice / Government Orders / Quality matters and was enriched with other useful contents for the year 2012-13.

2. The agri-exchange portal was enriched with the various analytical reports like:

• Global Analytical Report on major Product or Country vis-à-vis India’s position (rank) in the country as well as products in the world export.

• A facility was created to generate report on International prices of 23 major agricultural commodities in the Agri exchange by sourcing information from Agra-net (public ledger) and updated weekly.

• APEDA also started maintaining export and import data on Agri and Allied commodities. The data was subscribed from DGCIS monthly and annually basis and compiled for generating various analytical Reports for MIS or reply to the parliament questions etc.

• The circulation of Agri Exchange daily newsletter was increased to 20,000. The new subscribers included Senior Offi cers of various Consulates, Embassies and High Commissions of India abroad.

3. Tracenet system for organic products was enriched with the various new user friendly features.

4. A facility was created for submission of online applications for subsidy on Lab Test Charges of Grapes export consignments through GrapeNet software.

5. To comply with the requirements of Raj Bhasha Adhiniyam 110 nos. of Akshar Naveen bilingual software (Unicode based) were purchased and installed in computer at Headquarter and Regional Offi ces of APEDA.

6. With the implementation of Notifi cation No. 28(RE-2012)/2009-14 issued from DGFT for export of Peanut and Peanut Products, the Peanut.Net software was updated and provision was made to facilitate export of peanut and peanut product for Non EU countries. The software was also amended with compliance of the regulatory requirements of testing and issuance of Health Certifi cate for Malaysia and EU countries.

7. A new payroll software was purchased and implemented in APEDA. The new software has various features to maintain database of monthly salary generation, EPF statement, DA and Bonus calculation, Income Tax and Loans and Advances etc.

During the year 2012-13, three APEDA Authority Meetings were held on 15th June, 2012, 20th November, 2012 and 31st January, 2013.

2.1 REGISTRATION OF THE EXPORTERS In total, 2538 new manufacture / merchant

exporters were registered with APEDA during the year 2012-13.

2.4 IMPLEMENTATION OF OFFICIAL LANGUAGE ACT The Authority implemented provisions of the Offi cial Language Act and Offi cial

Language Rules of the Government of India during 2012-2013. Some of the activities undertaken by the Authority are given below:

1. Offi cial Language Implementation Committee meetings were organized regularly during the year 2012-13.

2. Hindi workshops were organized for offi cers & staff during the year 2012-13.

3. Provisions of Section 3(3) of Offi cial Languages Act were implemented.

4. Incentive Schemes for Offi cers & employees for working in Hindi are available in APEDA. Under this scheme, cash awards were given to the Offi cers and staff of the organization for their effective work in Hindi during the year.

5. “Hindi Pakhwara” was organized from 14th to 28th September during the year 2012-13. Various competitions were organized to encourage the use of Hindi as a routine mode of communication. Winners of the competitions were awarded.

2.3 IMPORT OF SUGAR-REGISTRATION OF CONTRACTS As per the provisions contained in the Foreign Trade

Policy (FTP) for import of sugar under Chapter 17 registers all imports of sugar both raw and refi ned. During 2012-13, RCAC registered are as follows:

6. APEDA’s quarterly newsletters ‘APEX Update’ was also brought out in Hindi and was circulated among the hindi speaking regions of India. It was also circulated to various departments, exporters and Indian Embassies abroad.

7. Agenda and minutes of the Authority meetings were translated into hindi and circulated to members of the authority.

8. All the requisition formats of administration, budget & fi nance were made bilingual for daily use.

9. All the fi le covers were printed with bilingual commonly used phrases to assist the employees in doing regular noting in Hindi.

10. Eight Divisions in APEDA were notifi ed for doing 100% work in Hindi.

11. National Programme for Organic Production, HACCP Recognition Scheme, Laboratory Recognition Scheme and Financial Assistance Schemes were made bilingual.

12. APEDA website is available in Hindi and was updated regularly.

13. Akshar-Navin software was installed in the computers for working in Hindi in unicode fonts.

14. Hindi Akshar-Navin software training was provided to all the employees.

2.5 FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE SCHEMES APEDA has been actively engaged in

the development of markets besides upgradation of infrastructure and quality to promote the export of agro products. In its endeavour to promote agro exports, APEDA provides fi nancial assistance to the registered exporters under the following schemes:

The export of APEDA products during the year 2012-13 witnessed whooping overall 41.04% growth over previous year with an export value of Rs.116331.68 crores. None of the product categories witnessed any negative growth.

4. MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS• Wine event at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi – July 30, 2012

Though the French, Italian, Spanish and American wine dominate the international market, of late Indian wine is gaining visibility at international arena. APEDA continuously strives to encourage the export of this product and with this purpose, organized a promotional activity to showcase the Indian wines, on July 30, 2012, at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The event, ‘Wines of India’, was inaugurated by Shri Anand Sharma, the Hon’ble Union Minister for Commerce, Industries and Textiles, Government of India. Overall, the purpose of the event was to let the diplomatic and expat community gain fi rsthand knowledge about Indian wines. Commerce Secretary, Foreign Secretary, Secretary-MFPI and Chairperson and Managing Director – ITPO graced the occasion.

• Ten leading wine companies showcased their popular brands of wines. Furthermore, a wine tasting session was organized wherein various eminent personalities and dignitaries tasted a varied range of Indian wines. The tasting session was conducted by one of the prominent Indian Wine Sommeliers, Magandeep Singh.

• Launching of “Indian Standards for Organic Textile” (ISOT)

Concurrent to the wine event on 30th July, 2012 Shri Anand Sharma, Hon’ble Union Minister for Commerce, Industries and Textiles, Government of India also launched the Indian Standards for Organic Textile (ISOT). These certifi cation standards were introduced in National Standards for Organic Production (NPOP) at National level under the legal regime administered by Ministry of Commerce and Industry as a part of the Foreign Trade Policy.

crops and the certifi cation standards for organic textiles (ISOT) were not a part of the certifi cation process under NPOP earlier. By introducing ISOT, India took over the long-standing position of the Global Organic Textiles Standards (GOTS), a private standards prevailing in the organic textiles industry.

Combined with the wine evening, an organic fashion show was organized by APEDA wherein models walked the ramp showcasing the products of artisans from different parts of the country producing fabrics using organic fi bers and dyes.

• APEDA Annual Export Awards – Setting New Benchmarks

Awards and recognition not only acknowledge success but also acts as an impetus to motivate. It inspires to take up new challenges that help set new benchmarks in the industry. It is with this spirit of encouraging excellence that APEDA held the 20th edition of APEDA Annual Exports Awards on November 23, 2012 in New Delhi. These awards are an effort by the organization to acknowledge the hard work and efforts put in by Indian exporters towards promoting and encouraging exports on a global platform.

This year, 45 awards were presented by Mr. Asit Tripathy, IAS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Commerce & Industry and Chairman, APEDA in four different categories. The categories included Diamond, Gold, Silver and Bronze for export contribution in various sectors. The Diamond Trophy was conferred to M/s. Allanasons Limited for an impressive track record in overall exports. Awards were also presented in different categories like fresh fruits and vegetables, bovine meat, poultry and dairy products, processed fruits and vegetables, walnuts, Basmati rice and fl oriculture.

• Re-elected Chairperson of Codex Alimentarius Commission

At the world food standard body’s annual meeting, The Director of APEDA, Mr. Sanjay Dave was re-elected as the Chairperson of the Codex Alimentarius. This was his third consecutive stint in this capacity.

A. ONGOING PROJECTS 1. Himachal Pradesh

a. During the fi nancial year 2012-13 two Controlled Atmosphere (CA) stores having a total capacity of 1320 MT were commissioned by HPMC at Gumma and Jarol Tikker. Further, state of the art apples lines having washing, grading and packing facilities were commissioned at four places namely; Oddi, Patlikuhl, Gumma and Jarol Tikker each having a capacity of 4 – 5 MT/hr. APEDA provided a total fi nancial assistance of Rs. 1232.58 lakhs for the above six projects.

b. For packaging of fruit juices/drinks in 200 ML slim Tetra Packs, TBA-19 Tetrapak machine and TSA 30 straw applicator were installed and commissioned at Parwanoo, H.P. District Solan with a capacity of 7800 packs per hour. APEDA provided a fi nancial assistance of Rs. 355.15 lakhs to HPMC for the same.

2. Gujarat

a. The project for setting up of cold storage unit for dehydrated onion in Mahuva, Gujarat was completed by GAIC Ltd during the 2012-13. The facility has 4 cold storage chambers having a capacity of 1600 MTs. APEDA provided a fi nancial assistance of Rs. 440.00 lakhs for the same.

b. Banana was identifi ed as a thrust produce for exports with a focus to develop new varieties. Accordingly, APEDA sanctioned three common

infrastructure projects to Gujarat State Agricultural Marketing Board (GSAMB) initially in the fi nancial year 2010-11 for banana exports at Rajpipla, Pavi Jetpur and Kamrej.These projects were at advance stage of completion at the end of fi nancial year 2012-13. APEDA sanctioned an amount of Rs. 1872.01 lakhs for the above three projects and out of which Rs. 1684.43 lakhs released till March, 2013. Each project is having facilities such as collection centres with overhead conveyors (rope way) and a cold storage.

3. Punjab

PAGREXCO commissioned fi ve number of pack houses at Mushkabad, Saholi, Lalgarh, Kangmai and Babri in Punjab during the fi nancial year 2012-13. APEDA provided a fi nancial assistance of Rs. 473.15 lakh for the same.

4. Kerala

Work progressed to the advance stage for setting up a cold storage facility having 75 MT capacity at Calicut Airport, wherein APEDA sanctioned a fi nancial assistance of Rs. 154.14 lakhs to KSIE Ltd and out of which Rs. 130.62 lakhs were released.

5. Tamil Nadu

Two projects were assisted by APEDA for strengthening of quality lab for export testing for animal products with the fi nancial assistance of Rs.555.50 lakhs and Rs.436.23 lakhs for Chennai and Namakkal respectively to Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. These projects were at advanced stage at the end of the fi nancial year 2012-13 . Rs. 803.99 lakhs were released for both the projects.

Work also further progressed at Dindigul, Tindivanam and Coimbatore pack house projects in Tamil Nadu. APEDA sanctioned a fi nancial assistance of Rs. 75.08 lakhs to Horticulture Department, Government of Tamil Nadu and released Rs. 39.55 lakhs during the year.

6. West Bengal

The project for setting up of Post Harvest Facility cum Auction Centre for Pineapple was commissioned at Bidhan Nagar by Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority with the fi nancial assistance of Rs. 422.12 lakh from APEDA during the fi nancial year 2012-13. The facility has 96 auction shops and around 2000 MTs of cold storage with a sorting grading line for pineapples.

7. Andhra Pradesh

Three pack houses at Medak, Ranga Reddy and Vishakhpatnam were completed during the fi nancial year 2012-13 for which APEDA provided fi nancial assistance of Rs. 75.00 lakhs to Department of Horticulture, Government of Andhra Pradesh. Each project is having a capacity of 25 MT cold storage.

8. Mizoram

The work for setting up of a walk in type cold room was completed at Aizwal Airport during the fi nancial year 2012-13 with the fi nancial assistance of Rs. 20.64 lakhs from APEDA and ASIDE,

B. NEW PROJECTS APEDA sanctioned two proposals for Maharashtra state at Panvel and Vashi to

be implemented by Maharashtra State Warehousing Corporation and Mumbai APMC respectively.

The MoU for Panvel project for setting up of export facility centre for fruits and vegetables was signed on 25.09.2012 for fi nancial assistance of Rs. 800.00 lakhs from APEDA. The total project cost is Rs. 1426.32 lakhs. APEDA released Rs. 320.00 lakhs during the fi nancial year 2012-13. A cold storage capacity of 4925 MT is envisaged to be created.

The MoU for Vashi project for setting up of a state of art multipurpose cold storage facility for fruits and vegetables was signed on 08.10.2012 for fi nancial assistance of Rs. 800 lakhs from APEDA. Total project cost is Rs. 2475.66 lakhs. APEDA released Rs. 320.00 lakhs during the fi nancial year 2012-13. A cold storage capacity of 4990 MT is envisaged to be created.

6. QUALITY DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES1) Recognition of laboratories

Two new laboratories were recognized totaling 22 laboratories for sampling and analysis of APEDA scheduled products for exports. One National Referral Laboratory and two recognized laboratories were upgraded with high precision analysis equipments.

2) Revision of following Regulations of exports through control of agrochemical residues and afl atoxins

a) Regulation of export of fresh table grapes to the European Union through control of residues of chemicals to ensure food safety compliances for the export season 2012-13.

b) Regulation on control of afl atoxins for exports of peanuts and peanut products from India to ensure food safety compliances of the importing countries.

3) Following Procedure revised for implementation by IOPEPC for recognition of processing units

a) Procedure for grant of recognition certifi cate to peanut processing units for export of peanuts.

b) Procedure for grant of recognition certifi cate to peanut shelling & or grading units for export of peanuts.

c) Procedure for grant of recognition certifi cate to godowns/storage for export of peanuts.

4) Standardization

7. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITY OF PRODUCT CATEGORIESHorticulture Sector• Promotional Programs The Embassy of Warsaw conducted small events at

Warsaw (Poland) and Vilinus (Lithunia). APEDA provided mangoes, publicity material and brochures for the events to the Embassy of India in Warsaw. Similar event was also organized by Embassy of India, Berlin for which mangoes and promotional material was provided by APEDA.

• Market Access issues

2.1 Achieved the success in opening up the New Zealand and Chilean market for Indian mangoes during the year. This opens up avenues for exporters for the 2013 mango season.

2.2 APEDA made regular follow up with Ministry of Agriculture and USDA-APHIS regarding the PRA for market access for Pomegranates to USA with Irradiation as a mitigation measure. The export of pomegranates may commence from 2013 season.

2.3 For market access for Indian table grapes in Australia, the Pest Risk Analysis (PRA) reached an advanced stage for which Australia was expected to issue the fi nal notifi cation.

2.4 APEDA made follow up efforts on market access requests for Walnut, Grapes, Pomegranates, Okra and Brinjal in South Korea, Grapes, Walnuts, Banana and Litchi in Chile, Pomegranate and Okra in New Zealand.

Other activities

• No incidence of surpassing of any pesticide residue tolerance was reported during the grape season 2012. To make the “Grapenet” traceability System more robust, consultations with trade and stakeholders were held and the RMP document was modifi ed to include 175 agro chemicals for testing prior to shipments to EU.

• In the 6 states of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat, stakeholders meetings were held to chalk out the way forward with regard to evolving a mechanism to monitor the pesticide residues in potential vegetable items like Bitter Gourd, Okra, Brinjal, Curry Leaves, Drumsticks and Green chilly for export to EU and Middle East countries.

2.5. Visit of New Zealand Audit Team

The visit of New Zealand team for the audit of mango orchards and pack house with VHT facilities in UP was successfully organized.

Livestock Sector

1. Efforts were continued for opening up of new market like Tunisia, Russia, China and Indonesia.

2. Trade issues were regularly addressed for the export of frozen buffalo meat in the existing markets like Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Angola, Iraq.

3. A four member delegation from Egypt visited India from 27th May to 16th June 2012, for inspection of abattoir-cum-meat processing plants. The delegation approved 16 numbers of plants for export of boneless frozen buffalo meat to Egypt.

4. With continuous efforts, the export of honey was resumed to Europe.

5. Visits of Plant Registration Committee were coordinated by APEDA for inspection of various meat plants and animal casing processing units for registration of processing plants for exports.

6. In view of the increased emphasis on human, animal and plant health and safety aspects in the global markets, number of steps were initiated to improve capabilities for meeting the quality requirements as per the notifi ed standards. Meat processing plants were encouraged to implement quality systems such as HACCP, ISO, etc.

7. Special steps were initiated by APEDA for export of Quality Buffalo Meat Products from Country

7.1 As per DGFT notifi cation dated 31st October, 2011 exports from India can be made only on the condition that the meat have been sourced from APEDA registered integrated abattoirs or APEDA registered meat processing plants that source raw material exclusively from APEDA registered integrated abattoirs/abattoirs.

7.2 The above notifi cation was issued to clarify the correct position that even an ‘abattoir’ (from which meat is obtained / sourced for export) is required to be registered with APEDA. The registration with APEDA is to ensure that the said abattoirs maintain standards of quality, hygiene and safety which, in turn, would ensure that the meat exported from India conforms to the required standards of quality, hygiene and safety.

8. Other Initiatives

Coordination amongst different organizations involved in exports of meat, the existing rules, regulations, guidelines and formats etc. of these organizations were interpolated for:

i. Sourcing of raw material by meat processing plants.

ii. Reassessing capacities of abattoirs/meat processing plants.

iii. Recognition of municipal abattoirs by APEDA supplying carcasses for export of meat processing plants from India.

iv. Working closely with Directorates of Animal Husbandry in the States where abattoirs/meat processing plants are situated for quality improvements in municipal slaughter houses.

v. Mechanism for regulating the exports of meat by merchant exporters to maintain the quality parameters of importing countries.

Cereals Sector

1. Registration of Basmati Rice as GI

APEDA has been entrusted with the responsibility by Govt. of India for protection of intellectual property vested in Basmati Rice. The application fi led by APEDA with

the GI Registry in Chennai in November 2008 was published in journal of the Registry in May 2010 for opposition.

In response nine oppositions were received by the Registry. Response to the nine oppositions were fi led by APEDA. Some applications came for hearing in December and some were adjourned to January – February, 2013.

2. Accreditation of BEDF Lab

Basmati Export Development Foundation (BEDF), founded by APEDA and registered as a society in 2002 is mandated to undertake activities for integration amongst diverse stakeholders such as farmers, millers, traders, and exporters for strengthening the supply chain with improvement in quality of the product.

For quality assurance and authentication of Basmati rice, a world-class laboratory has been set up in the premises of SVBP University of Agriculture and Technology at Modipuram, Meerut (UP) with facilities for DNA profi ling, pesticides residue testing and quality testing on the basis of physical parameters. This lab was notifi ed by DGFT w.e.f. March 31, 2010, as an authorized centre for testing of Basmati rice samples drawn by Customs for variety identifi cation. About 2870 samples received from Customs and DRI were tested by the Lab till March 2013.

The BEDF Lab has obtained ‘Certifi cate of Accreditation’ from National Accreditation Board for Testing & Calibration Laboratories (NABL) under ISO/IEC 17025:2005.

BEDF also supports DNA Testing by CDFD from samples received from EIA/ Customs. A total of 187 samples were tested during the fi nancial year.

3. Workshops organized by BEDF for the farmers of Basmati growing States

During the year, BEDF organized 15 workshops on “Quality Improvement in production of Basmati Rice for Export” through its demonstration and training farm in Basmati growing states viz. Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Western Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. About 3000 farmers participated in these workshops.

4. Focus on promotion of Basmati Rice in the international trade fairs

A special focus was given on promotion of Basmati Rice in most of the International trade fairs where APEDA participated with All India Rice Exporters Association.

Processed Food Sector

Workshops on Groundnuts

- Workshop at Junagadh

A one-day workshop on ‘Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Production of Afl atoxin-Free Groundnuts’ was organized on 5th June, 2012 at Directorate of Groundnut Research, Junagadh. The total number of the participants was 106, which comprised 73 groundnut farmers, 13 representatives of groundnut processing units, and 20 scientists/technical personnel.

- Workshop at Kodinar-Gujarat

Directorate of Groundnut Research, Junagadh, Gujarat organized a one-day workshop on ‘Improved Practices for Production of Afl atoxin-Free Groundnuts’ on 7th September, 2012 at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Kodinar. The total number of the participants was 99, which comprised 82 groundnut farmers (few number of small traders also included) and 17 scientists/technical personnel.

The workshop was concluded with the distribution of a manual on ‘Improved Practices for Production of Afl atoxin-Free Groundnuts’ and participation certifi cates to all the delegates.

- Workshop at Bikaner-Rajasthan

A one-day workshop on “Improved Practices for Production of Afl atoxin-Free Groundnuts” was organized on 30.11.2012 at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Bikaner, Rajasthan. The total number of the participants was 64, which comprised 50 groundnut farmers and 14 scientists / technical personnel. Mr. Sunil Kumar, Secretary, APEDA and Mr. Navneesh Sharma, DGM, APEDA delivered lectures to the farmers.

- Meeting with Snack Food Trader

A meeting was held with snack food traders on 30.11.12 at Bikaner. Following three issues emerged during the meeting which are being addressed by APEDA.

a) Setting up of a lab at Bikaner.

b) Dry port at Bikaner.

c) Snacks items to be allowed for export to Pakistan.

- Visit of Indian Delegation to EU regarding testing methods of Groundnuts

Govt. of India encouraged trade through Indian Oilseeds and Produce Export Promotion Council (IOPEPC) to mount a delegation to EU counties i.e. Spain, The Netherlands, UK and Belgium to discuss the various quality issues with the importing countries in EU. The delegation comprised of ten offi cials from Govt., IOPEPC, NRL and nominated laboratories from India visited Felixstowe port, UK, Public Analyst Scientifi c Services laboratory at Norwich, UK, NVWA offi ce at Zwijndrecht and Warehouse at Rotterdam port, Netherlands and offi ce of the DG-SANCO, Brussels from 10th to 14th June 2012.

- Surveillance visit of groundnut units A team comprising of offi cials from APEDA, IOPEPC, Quality Auditor and other Govt. Department conducted surveillance of four major groundnut exporting units.

- Wine Promotion

Special emphasis was given by APEDA to the promotion of Indian wines during important international events held in Canada, UK, France, Japan and exclusive wine tasting counters were setup for spreading awareness about quality of Indian wine. Accordingly, APEDA embarked on a systematic campaign to promote Indian Wine. The following events were organized during the last fi nancial year:-

- Meeting with the Pulses Trade

A meeting of APEDA offi cials was held with the trade representatives of Pulses in Mumbai on 15.03.2013. After deliberations, it was felt that there was a strong rationale in allowing export on pre-import basis. Accordingly, a proposal was sent to DoC for consideration.

- DGFT Trade notifi cation on Groundnut

With the increasing number of complaints on account of exceeding limits of afl atoxin found in the export consignments of peanuts and peanut product from India, a DGFT notifi cation was issued making it mandatory that Afl atoxin control level certifi cate would be necessary for exporting to all countries in the world. This notifi cation is expected to bring discipline among shellers, processors and exporters for the improvement of quality for the export of peanut and peanut products.

INTERNATIONAL EVENTS ORGANIZED- Summer Fancy Food Show, Washington DC, USA from 17-19 June, 2012

APEDA participated in the Summer Fancy Food Show held in Washington DC, USA from 17th to 19th June, 2012 and taken an area of 288 sq. mtr. Twelve leading exporters personally participatedunder the banner of APEDA. Mr. A.S. Rawat, General Manager and Mrs. Vinita Sudhanshu, Asstt. General Manager, APEDA represented the show.

- The ‘India Show’ at Big Sight, Tokyo, Japan from 20-22, June, 2012 APEDA organized the ‘India Show’ in Tokyo in conjunction with the M-Tech Expo from June 20-22, 2012 at Big Sight, Tokyo, Japan. Mr. Navneesh Sharma, Dy. General Manager, APEDA and Mr. Devendra Prasad, Asstt. General Manager, APEDA, were nominated to coordinate the entire event. The ‘India Show’ was inaugurated by the Commerce Secretary. Shri Asit Kumar Tripathy, the Joint Secretary, MoC&I delivered a lecture on Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between India and Japan.

- Fispal Food Service Show, Latin America from 25-28 June, 2012 APEDA along with the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MOFPI), participated in one of the biggest food trade fairs in Latin America, The Fispal Food Service Show. The 28th edition of the international food service trade show was held from June 25-28, 2012. Representing Brand India at the show were Shri Rajbeer Singh, Director, MoFPI, Shri R.K. Boyal, General Manager, APEDA and Shri R.K. Mondal, Assistant General Manager, APEDA.

- 11th Pro-Food/Pro-Pack and Ag-Biz 2012, Colombo, Sri Lanka from 6-8 July, 2012 APEDA participated in 11th Pro Food/Pro Pack show at the Srinimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre, Colombo, Sri Lanka from 6-8 July, 2012. The exhibition was a grand success with a massive participation by almost 198 organizations (both local and foreign) who exhibited their products through 285 stalls. APEDA’s participation was organized by Mr. Ajit Kumar, Section Offi cer, Ministry of Commerce & Industry and Mr. T. Sudhakar, Dy. General Manager, APEDA.

- Saudi Agro-Food 2012, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from 24-27 September, 2012APEDA along with Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Govt. of India participated in Saudi Agro Food 2012, one of the premier trade shows in the Arabian region with an area of 99 sq. mtr. - Sial 2012, Paris, France from 21-25 October, 2012 APEDA actively participated in Sial 2012, the largest food exhibition in the world, held from 21-25 October, 2012 at the Parc des Expositions de Paris-Nord Villepinte Convention Centre. APEDA showcased India through the aesthetically designed pavilion of 1,538 square metres which attracted a large number of trade visitors and entrepreneurs. The vibrant pavilion facilitated the participation of more than 70 companies showcasing diverse range of Basmati Rice, Spices and Cashews. Apart from the India Pavilion, 50 other companies showcased meat products, snacks, biscuits, honey and ready-to-eat food among others at the event. - Food & Hotel China (FHC), Shanghai, China from 14-16 November, 2012 APEDA participated in the FHC, China held from 14-16 November, 2012. APEDA represented the Indian contingent through a beautifully designed pavilion of 72 sq. mtr. that displayed a range of food products like processed foods, pickles and chutnies, snacks etc. The major attractions of the show was the wet sampling of Indian Basmati Rice Biryani. The response received for wet sampling proved China to be a potential market for Basmati Rice exports from India. APEDA’s participation was organized by Mr. A.S. Rawat, General Manager and Mr. R.K. Mondal, Asstt. General Manager, APEDA.

- World Food 2012, Ukraine from 31st October to 2nd November, 2012 The world Food 2012, Ukraine was held at the International Exhibition Centre, Kiev from October 31 to November 2, 2012. APEDA in association with Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MOFPI) participated in the exhibition for the fi rst time to promote ‘Brand India’, enhance bilateral trade and create awareness about the potential business opportunities as Ukraine is emerging as a major importer of Indian processed foods, groundnuts, guar gum, rice and alcoholic beverages. APEDA has taken an area of 63 sq. mtr. and displayed varied Indian sweets, snacks, rice, mixed spices, dehydrated vegetables, fruit pulps etc. APEDA’s participation in the event was organized by Shri T. Sudhakar, Dy. General Manager and Shri Man Prakash Vijay, Asstt. General Manager, APEDA while MOFPI was represented by Shri K.B. Subramaniam, Deputy Secretary.

- India Show Bangladesh, Dhaka from 3-5 December, 2012 The India Show held from December 3-5, 2012 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, Dhaka. The India Show saw the participation of a high level business delegation of 60 companies. APEDA took up a 90 square metres pavilion which was aesthetically decorated. Around seven exporters participated through APEDA at the event. Participating exporters displayed their products while wet sampling of Biryani was offered to the visitors in the pavilion. APEDA’s participation in the show was organized by Dr. Sudhanshu, Dy. General Manager and Mr. Umesh Kumar, Asstt. General Manager, APEDA.

- Fruit Logistica 2013, Berlin, Germany from 6-8 February, 2013 Fruit Logistica is the leading trade show for the international fresh produce trade. It is a specialist trade show, which offers fresh produce sectors an ideal opportunity to present their products across the entire value chain from producers to food retailers. APEDA took an area of 108 sq. mtr. for participation in the exhibition. Indian pavilion was aesthetically designed and the same was greatly appreciated by the participating exporters and visitors. Eight leading fresh produce exporters were present at the India Pavilion who showcased an array of fresh produce. Three Indian exporters (two fresh produce exporters and one from packaging sector) also participated in the exhibition by taking separate space. The event was organized by Mr. R.K. Boyal, Director, APEDA and Mr. R.S. Bisht, Under Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Govt. of India.

- BioFach, Germany from 13-16 February, 2013 BioFach Germany is one of the largest annual international organic trade fairs in the world. This year, the event took place from February 13-16, 2013 at Nuremberg Messe in Germany. Tea Board, Coffee Board and Spices Board, along with 34 exporters who showcased a wide range of organic products through a common platform. In addition, the Department of Agriculture, Karnataka and Uttarakhand Commodity Board also participated. The fair presented the entire range of organic products, namely processed foods, fruits and vegetables, spices, dairy products, beverages, garments and cosmetics. In the pavilion itself, an Indian restaurant was set up to promote Indian cuisines. Promotional activities like applying of henna tattoos, wet sampling of organic Basmati rice and live demo of Looking Indian cuisines helped to thoroughly engage all the visitors. Mr. M. Sevala Naik, Consul General, Consulate General of India, Munich visited the India pavilion and met all the organic exporters. APEDA’s participation at the event were organized by Mr. S.S. Nayyar, General Manager and Mrs. Samidha Gupta, Asstt. General Manager, APEDA.

- Canadian Food and Beverages Show 2013, Toronto, Canada from 3-5 March, 2013 Canadian Food and Beverages Show was held at Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place, Toronto, Canada during 3rd to 5th March, 2013. The show was organized by the Canadian Restaurant and Foodservice Association (CRFA). The exhibition encompasses product sector such as confectionery, grocery products, meat and poultry, dairy, canned foods, fruits and vegetables, tea and coffee, frozen and convenience foods, oils, fats & sauces, fi sh and seafood, drinks. APEDA took an area of 60 sq. mtr. at the event. M/s. KRBL and M/s. Dipkiran Foods carried out wet sampling of Basmati biryani. M/s. Nirvana Biosys also carried out wet sampling of wines. APEDA was represented at the exhibition by Mr. Vinod K Kaul, Deputy General Manger and Mr. Ajit Kumar, Section Offi cer, Department of Commerce, Govt. of India.

- Foodex Japan 2013, Tokyo, Japan from 5-8 March, 2013 FOODEX Japan is one of the largest food fairs in the world. APEDA participated in Foodex Japan 2013 held at Makuhari Messe, Tokyo, Japan from 5th to 8th March, 2013. APEDA Pavilion measuring 72 sq. mtr. area was aesthetically designed and was appreciated. Ten member exporters of APEDA individually participated in the show and were personally present in show. The food products such as dehydrated vegetables, organic traditional tea, honey, ready to eat curry, mango pulp & juices, snacks, coconut water, wine, beer and spices were displayed by the participating companies during the show.

APEDA Pavilion was visited by Hon’ble Ambassador - Ms. Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa, Minister (Economic & Commercial) – Mr. Arun Goyal and First Secretary (Commercial) – Mr. Tapan Kumar Datta from Indian Embassy in Japan. They appreciated APEDA Pavilion and met individual participating exporters for encouragement and gave their valuable inputs for enhancing visibility of Indian

products in this quality conscious market. The Show was organized by Shri Sunil Kumar, Secretary, APEDA and Shri Anurag Sharma, Section Officer, MoC&I.

- IFE, London 2013, London, U.K. from 17-20 March, 2013 APEDA actively participated in IFE London 2013, which was held at ExCel London from March 17-20, 2013. The exhibition gave us a unique opportunity to interact with exporters from different parts of the world and establish new business contacts. APEDA acquired 108 sq. mtr. space to showcase India’s best to the world. The vibrant India Pavilion aptly showcased Brand India through an impressive mix of products ranging from organic products, ready to eat food, soups, honey, spices and herbs, fresh and frozen fruits like fresh mangoes and vegetables, chutneys, pickles, herbal tea, wines and Basmati rice. The major attraction at APEDA pavilion was the wet sampling of Indian Basmati rice Biryani and fresh mangoes. Mr. A.S. Rawat, General Manager, APEDA organized the participation in the event. The show was a grand success as it helped us project India’s strong export base to the world.

NATIONAL EVENTS ORGANIZED

- The Aahar Exhibition, New Delhi from 14-18 March, 2013 ‘AAHAR’ is a premier exhibition of the food, food processing and hospitality industry. It provides national and international traders a perfect platform to exhibit their products and interact with various stakeholders. This year, Aahar exhibition was held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from March 14-18, 2013. The theme of the event was ‘Processed Food : From Farm to Fork’. The exhibition was divided into two independent segments, namely ‘Food India and ‘Hospitality India’. With 50 overseas participants, this edition of Aahar was aimed at attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into the country. Like every year, APEDA along with Ministry of Food Processing Industries in India (MoFPI) played a pivotal role in organizing the exhibition. APEDA-MOFPI took up a 1500 sq. mtr. pavilion to provide optimum exposure to the 44 companies, who participated in the exhibition with us. The Pavilion was inaugurated by Mr. Asit Tripathy, Chairman, APEDA and was visited by over 25,000 business visitors. APEDA-MOFPI pavilion was also honoured with a Gold Medal for ‘Excellence in Theme Display’ and for our professional display of products.

9. NATIONAL PROGRAMME FOR ORGANIC PRODUCTION (NPOP)

Organic farming in India is steadily growing after the implementation of NPOP in 2001 by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and meeting the demand in global market.

During the year 2012-13, India exported 300 products under 19 Categories The major products exported were Cane sugar, Soyabean & products, Oil seeds, Cotton & Textiles, Processed Food, Basmati Rice, Sesame, Spices, Tea, Dry Fruits, Medicinal plants & their Processed products.

The total organic products exports (including textiles) for the year 2012-13 was 165262.06 MT. valued Rs.2106.81 crores.

The export of organic products have been mainly to the European Union followed by US, Canada, Japan, Australia, China, Middle East countries and to some South Asian countries.

The enhancement in organic export was due to the recognition of NPOP equivalence by EU and Switzerland as well as the recognition of conformity assessment procedures of NPOP by US. Similar recognitions were expected from Canada, Japan and Taiwan soon. Further, standards for aquaculture, livestock and textiles have been framed for introduction under NPOP and sent to the Government for notification.

Presently, there are 24 inspection and certification agencies accredited under NPOP for certifying organic products.

10. ACTIVITIES OF REGIONAL OFFICES OF APEDA INCLUDING NORTH-EASTERN REGIONRegional Office Mumbai Regional Office, Mumbai looked after export promotion of agricultural and processed food products from the Western Region of the country and responsible for organizing all activities of APEDA including implementation of financial assistance scheme in the Western Region for strengthening of marketing intelligence and database, quality upgradation, research and development, development of infrastructure, development of market and transport assistance. The activities of Regional Office Mumbai range from development of data base of the mandated products, markets and services and dissemination of this information to the exporters. Following activities were carried out:-

i) Registration cum Membership Certificate and Registration cum Allocation Certificate Issued 856 Registration Certificates, 103 APEDA Re-registrations Certificates/Re-issuance Certificates. The total no. of Registration cum Allocation Certificates (RCAC’s) issued were 809 for Basmati Rice, 115 for Import of Raw Sugar.

ii) Monitored the progress of the ongoing common infrastructure projects in the western region. The Monitoring Committee were set up and the meetings of the same were scheduled in the State of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Pre-assessment visits of the new proposed projects in the western region were also carried out.

iii) Scrutinized the pack house applications and forwarded the same to Head Office for onward processing for issuing the directions for organizing the committee visit. The Committee visit was organized for 120 no. of pack houses related to grapes, mangoes, pomegranates and fresh vegetables.

iv) Initiated the process for exploring the export by new private ports in Maharashtra. A meeting was scheduled by MSAMB along with APEDA at new private port ‘Jaigad Port’ and the discussions were held for making the port available for export of agri products from Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg area. The process started and once this port becomes operational for agri product then the exporters of Konkan area would not be required to bring their cargo at JNPT port and would be able to export from the new port to the markets of Middle East in the first phase.

v) Organized interaction meetings with vegetable exporters for resolving the issue of resuming the export of okra in the wake of new EU Regulation. A draft Trade Notice was prepared and finalized in consultation with the PPQ Department and

exporters and was forwarded to Head Office for approval and issue of the Trade Notice. An Interaction meeting on 15th March, 2013 was coordinated with pulses exporters and their association regarding the export of processed pulses against the import of raw pulses.

vi) Interacted with various concerned agencies for taking up the issues related to exports.

- Meeting with Air India

A meeting was held with Air India on 19th November, 2012 for resolving the issues at APEDA CPC at Mumbai International Airport. The long pending issues related to functioning and maintenance with Blue Star were discussed, due to which the exporters were facing problems in movement of their cargo on daily basis.

- Meeting with Jawahar Lal Nehru Port Trust ( JNPT)

A meeting was held with JNPT on 8th January, 2013 regarding the issues related to congestion at the sea port. The port authorities were informed about the difficulties faced by the exporters due to congestion at JNPT and request was made to take necessary action for decongestion at the port.

- Meeting with Custom Authorities

A meeting was held with Additional Commissioner Customs on the issues related to Fresh Fruits and Vegetable Exporters on VKUY on 27th November, 2012.

Agri Exchange newsletter along with important news clippings in the agri sector was sent through email to the active exporters in the Western region who interact with APEDA Regional Office regularly.

Promotion of Hindi Rajbhasha

For the first time, RO, Mumbai organized Hindi Pakhwara for promotion of Hindi Rajbhasha. Initiatives were taken for promotion of Rajbhasha in the functioning of office.

Visit of Meat Plant Registration Committee

RO, Mumbai organized committee visit for inspected of 15 integrated abattoirs cum meat processing / meat processing units during the year.

Regional Office Bangalore

APEDA, Bangalore was in regular touch with Central and State Government Departments and other organizations related to export in the state. It was also involved in providing advisory services to the fresh and aspiring entrepreneurs on various export opportunities.

Disseminated trade information on policy, procedure, product promotion, international buyers etc. and actively involved in processing of transport assistance claims of the exporters and verification of the assets created with APEDA’s financial assistance. Bangalore office issued 675 Registration cum Membership Certificates (RCMCs) and 40 Registration cum Allocation Certificate (RCACs). Rs.27.99 crores of transport subsidies was disbursed during 2012-13, in addition to organizing and participating in the visits to Meat Plants/Packhouses and physical verification of assets. In order to popularize APEDA’s activities in the Southern Region, RO Bangalore participated in workshops/seminars/training programmes organized by various Central and State Government Departments, Financial Institutions, Research Institutes, Agricultural Universities etc., and made presentations on activities of APEDA and financial assistance schemes :

1. Organized a meeting with fresh fruit and vegetable exporters and laboratory representatives from Kerala on 14th March 2013 at Trivandrum. The meeting mainly focused on EU regulations on export of okra and curry leaves from India.

2. Organized a meeting of the Members of the Indian Gherkin Exporters Association and gherkin exporters at RO Bangalore office, in order to discuss the interventions required by APEDA at various levels.

3. Visited the Department of Horticulture and discussed with the Director of Horticulture with regard to status of ongoing common infrastructure projects in the state of Karnataka.

Visits / Seminars / Conference

1. Carried out various physical verifications, meat plant inspections, IDP visits, packhouse recognition visits, evaluation of organic certification agencies, etc., in the Southern Region.

2. Participated in the “Conference on Agri Based Industries”, held at Trivandrum on 5th August 2012. The conference was organized by WTO Cell, Department of Agriculture, Govt. of Kerala and it was attended by the officials of all Commodity Boards like, Coconut Development Board, Spices Board, Kerala State Industries Development Corporation, NABARD and Kerala Agricultural University.

3. Participated in the “National Banana Seminar” organized by Office of Commissioner of Horticulture and Plantation Crops at Theni on 2nd and 3rd November 2012 and made a presentation at the event.

4. Participated and made a presentation at the National Conference on “Emerging Technological Changes to meet the demand of domestic and export meat sector” organized by NRC Meat at Hyderabad on 09.02.2013.

Domestic Exhibitions

AAHAR – International Food Fair 2012 - India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO) along with Tamil Nadu Trade Promotion Organization (TNTPO), organized AAHAR Chennai Trade Fair at Chennai from 23rd to 25th August 2012. Smt. M.P. Nirmala, IAS, Secretary (Food), Govt. of Tamil Nadu inaugurated the event. A space of 198 sq. mts. was allotted to APEDA which was designed to accommodate eight booths. APEDA stall received good response from visiting dignitaries as well as from business visitors.

India Foodex 2012 at Bangalore from 25th to 27th August 2012 – The 4th edition of India Foodex 2012 along with Agri Tech India 2012, Grain Tech India 2012 and Dairy Tech India 2012 was held from 25th to 27th August 2012 at Palace Grounds, Bangalore. Poultry & Livestock Expo 2012 was also launched at the exhibition. Former Prime Minister Hon’ble Shri Deve Gowda inaugurated the event and also visited APEDA stall. RO Bangalore addressed the gathering in the inaugural session of the exhibition. Exporters were given space in APEDA stall for display of their products.

- Visit of Dr. Shiroma Sathyapala, Manager, Ministry of Primary Industry, New Zealand – 19th June 2013.

Dr. Shiroma Sathyapala, Manager, Fruit Produce Import, Ministry of Primary Industries, New Zealand visited the floriculture unit of M/s. Indo Bloom Ltd., on 19th June 2012. Mrs. Thangam Ramachandran, Field Officer, APEDA, Bangalore accompanied her to the unit of M/s. Indo Bloom Ltd., on 19.06.2012 in order to know the procedure for de-vitalization in floriculture units. Mr. Mammen Mappillai, Managing Director of M/s. Indo Bloom Ltd. and Dr. Thilak Subbaiah, Consulting Horticulturist for M/s. Indo Bloom Ltd., were also present. Dr. Sathyapala appreciated and commended the company for maintaining appropriate procedure and practice in greenhouse.

- Visit of Malaysian Meat Delegation to Hyderabad from 12th - 14th Feb., 2013.

The Malaysian Meat Delegation visited Hyderabad from 12th to 14th February 2013. RO Bangalore accompanied the delegation to the visits to the meat plants of M/s. Freigo Conserva Allana Ltd., M/s. Al-Kabeer Exports Pvt. Ltd. and M/s. Al-Qureshi Exports.

Regional Office Hyderabad

APEDA, Hyderabad Office was in regular touch with the Central and State Government Department and other Organizations related to the exports in the State. It was also involved in providing advisory services and to the fresh and aspiring entrepreneurs of various export opportunities. It was also involved in performing various statutory activities like issue of RCMC and RCAC in addition to organizing and participating in the visits for Meat Plant and Pack House approvals and physical verification of assets.

In order to popularize APEDA’s activities in the State it participated in Workshops, Seminars and Training Programmes organized by various Central and State Government Departments, Financial Institutions, Research Organizations, Agricultural Universities etc., and made presentations on the APEDA’s activities and Financial Assistance Schemes.

During the year 2012- 2013, the office issued 153 no. of Registration cum Membership Certificates (RCMCs) and 154 (Registration cum Allocation Certificates (RCACs) for export of 30056 Mts. of Basmati Rice.

Centre for Good Governance, MCR HTRDIAP Campus, Hyderabad organized a National Workshop on “Changing Farmer’s Risk Environment – Farm Viability Centric Agriculture and allied Sector Interventions” at MCR HRDIAP Campus, Hyderabad on 07.05.2012. RO Hyderabad made a presentation on “Changing Farmers Risk Environment”. Around 100 participants attended the Workshop.

- International Conference-cum-Exhibition on Agribusiness & Food Processing, November 5-6, Taj Krishna, Hyderabad

Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) organized an International Conference-cum-Exhibition on Agribusiness & Food Processing from November 5-6, 2012, Taj Krishna, Hyderabad.

Shri E.S.L. Narasimhan, Honorable Governor, Government of Andhra Pradesh inaugurated the Conference.

RO Hyderabad made a presentation on Agri Processing and Role of APEDA on Export front. Around 200 participants attended the Workshop.

- CII Conference on Exim Excellence – 2012 (Imperatives for Accelerating Growth in India’s Exports Opportunities and Challenges for Andhra Pradesh on 29.11.2012.

CII, Hyderabad had organized a Conference on EXIM Excellence – 2012 at Hotel ITC Kakatiya, Hyderabad on 29.11.2012.

RO Hyderabad made a presentation on Agri Processing Industry and Role of APEDA on export front.

Field Visits

- Visit of 27 Progressive Grape Farmers from Andhra Pradesh to Maharastra from 18.02.2013 to 21.02.2013

To educate the farmers under HRD Programme, around 27 progressive farmers from Andhra Pradesh were taken to grape vineyards and pack houses located in Nashik region on 19.02.2013. They had interactions with the active farmers and pack house officials at Nashik directly involved in export of grapes to EU, on various production methods followed by the farmers and export procedures followed by pack houses.

The team visited the Milk and Dairy Products processing unit of M/s. Parag Milk Foods Pvt. Ltd (M/s. Gowardhan Diary Unit), Awasari Phata, Manchar District on 20.02.2013.

The team also visited National Research Centre for Grapes, Pune on 20.02.2013. Dr. Kulkarni, Scientist had made a presentation on the activities of NRC for Grapes, Pune.

Five Member Malayasian Delegation inspected the Meat Plants of M/s. Frigerio Consera Allana Ltd., Zaheerabad, Medak District and M/s. Al-Kabeer Exports Pvt. Ltd., Rudraram Manal, Medak District on 13.02.2013 and 14.02.2013.

Inspection / Physical Verification of pack houses

RO, Hyderabad carried out Physical Verification of Pack Houses of Common Infrastructure Facilities established by Department of Horticulture, Govt. of A.P., at M. Chintapalli(V), Shameerpet (M), Ranaga Reddy District, Gummadidala(V), Ginnaram Mandal, Medak District, Seethampeta Mandal, Srikakulam District.

Regional Office Kolkata RO Kolkata in Eastern part of India is a gateway to Bangladesh and South East

Asian countries for exports of Indian products especially from Eastern part of India. RO Kolkata has good co-ordination with various State & Central Govt. Departments, Universities for effective implementation of programme & schemes of APEDA. RO Kolkata attended individual exporters as well as various trade & institutional events to provide and disseminate information on APEDA’s development programme, FAS, TAS & MDA, for development of quality & infrastructure in various agri-export zone in the Region. RO, Kolkata issued 209 nos. RCMC, 19 nos. 16 nos. RCAC, TAS Applications 58 nos., TAS re-submission 165 nos., and attended 839 visitors and provided required information to them.

Seminars, Meetings & Workshops

RO, Kolkata participated in 24 numbers of meeting, seminar & workshop in West Bengal & Orissa during the year. Awareness and export oriented subjects were taken and potential exporters were addressed by AGM, APEDA, senior officers and functionaries of State Govt. as well as Industry associations like Deptt. of PFI & Hort., ICC, APICOL, CII, FIEO, PHD Chambers, BCKV University etc.

Common infrastructure project A) Project on ‘Post Harvest Handling Cum Auction Centre for Pineapple” at Bidhannagar, Siliguri, Dist. Darjeeling, W.B. was completed and was ready for operation during 2013 season. B) A project on Processing of Potato Flakes to Paschim Banga Agriculture Marketing Corporation, Govt. of West Bengal was being set up at Sheoraphulli, Dist. Hooghly. C) A project on “Integrated Packhouse for Vegetables” at Titlagarh, dist. Bolangir, Odisha was approved by APEDA and work was in progress.

Regional Office Guwahati APEDA Guwahati regularly addressed trade related issues i.e. Exim Policy,

Procedure, Product promotion and International buyers etc. The RO issued 21 Registration cum Membership Certificate (RCMC) to the exporters of schedule product during the year 2012-13.

Organic farming

- APEDA organized a meeting with the Principal Secretary Mr. O. Nabakishor Singh by taking exporters to Imphal and arranged field visit, meeting with farmers and Agriculture Department of Manipur from 10th to 13th May’12. The farmers had shown interest to adopt organic farming method.

- The Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture Assam Sri Nilamani Sen Deka invited RO Guwahati for a discussion on Organic farming in Assam. He informed that the State Govt. has taken initiatives for organic farming in the state and initially 50 hectare of land was earmarked for that. He requested APEDA to organize seminar and buyer-seller meet.

Visit of foreign buyers to North East

- APEDA took a delegation of importers of organic product from Italy in the month of October, 2012 to Sikkim which is the state in North East promoting organic farming. A meeting with the state government officials, farmers, traders and a field visit were arranged by APEDA which satisfied the visitors for opening the avenues for export of organic products from the state.

- APEDA also arranged the visit of importers from USA to Dhemaji district of Assam who were looking for Red rice. The District Collector of Dhemaji received the visitors and arranged the field visit. The Hon’ble Agriculture Minister of Assam and Agriculture Production Commissioner of Assam also met the visitors. Visitors were satisfied with the quality of rice opening the avenues for further exports of red rice from the region to USA. Assam also grows different varieties of Rice like sticky or glutinous rice, magic rice or soft rice and scented rice called joha rice and APEDA is trying to promote these varieties in the international market.

Meeting with exporters at various land custom stations

In order to understand the diffi culties faced by the exporters while exporting through different Land Custom Stations of NER, a team of APEDA offi cials led by Mr. A.S. Rawat, General Manager visited different LCS from 9th to 12th August, 2012. The team met the exporters, Customs offi cials and State Govt. offi cials. Lack of infrastructure, transportation diffi culties, obtaining phyto-sanitary certifi cate and Radiation Certifi cate on time were some of the problems highlighted by the exporters.

Seminar and workshop

- RO Guwahati participated in various seminars and workshop in different states of North East on various subjects organized by different organizations like ICC, CII, FIEO, Assam Agriculture University, IIP etc. where he made presentation on the subjects related to export, schemes of APEDA, Inland Transport Assistance scheme, Export Development Fund etc.

- In order to boost exports of Ginger and orange from North Eastern Region, APEDA organized a sensitization programme on pre and post harvest management for the farmers of Mizoram and Meghalaya in association of the State Horticulture Department. For these crops, similar programmes were planned to be conducted in the state of Sikkim, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

Infrastructure development

The installation of Walk-in-type Cold storage at Lengpui Airport Terminal Building, Aizawl, Mizoram funded under ASIDE and APEDA was completed. RO Guwahati inspected the unit on 08.03.2013 which was commissioned by Hon’ble Parliamentary Secretary, Horticulture Department, Govt. of Mizoram.
