pronouns Pronouns are words used to replace nouns. They help to make sentences shorter and less repetitive.

How to use pronounsInstead of saying, “Sara went to the grocery store,” you can use the pronoun she to replace “Sara” and say “She went to the gro-cery store.” Both sentences mean the same thing when referring to Sara.

You can use pronouns to replace the subject or the object in a sentence. For example, in the sentence, “Sara is going to the grocery store for Ned,” you can replace “Ned” with the pronoun him and say “Sara is going to the grocery store for him.”

Special types of pronouns are called reflexive pronouns. These can be used to refer to or mirror the subject of the sentence. For example, in the sentence “Ned cooked lunch for himself,” the word himself is the reflexive pronoun that refers to the subject, “Ned.” In these cases, the reflexive pronoun always refers back to the subject.
