Objectives
The Students will be able to:
Describing what is routing protocol
Know some of routing protocol
Outline
Introduction to routing protocol
Routing method
Static and dynamic routing
INTRODUCTION TO ROUTING PROTOCOL
Introduction The main function of the network layer is Addressing and routing
Routing is a function which is responsible for bringing the data passes
through a set of network by choosing the best path to pass the data
Routing tasks will be carried out in the network device called a router
Router The router is a hardware network that duty or function to connects two
or more networks
Type the router: Computers that we enable Router
Special equipment is designed as a Router
Task router forwarding data (IP Function Forward must be enabled) using the routing protocol (Routing Algorithm)
Data is governed by the Routed Protocol
Default Gateway
In order for Router can forward data, existing computers on the network must assign the router to forward data
Assignment is done by setting the default gateway computer to the router
If we do not set the default gateway then certainly the LAN can not be connected to other networks
Direct delivery (direct connect)
IndirectDelivery (indirect connect)
The IP Address Changes
Introduction to Routing Protocols
Routing protocols Protocols used by routers to make path determination choices and to share
those choices with other routers
Hop count The number of routers a packet must pass through to reach a particular
network
Metric A value used to define the suitability of a particular route
Routers use metrics to determine which routes are better than other routes
ROUTING METHODS
Next-hop routing
Network-specific routing
Host-specificrouting
Default Routing
STATIC VERSUS
DYNAMIC ROUTING
How to Build a Routing Table
Static Routing
Built based on the definition of administrator
Administrators must be careful, the only one fail of the network routing table is not connected
Dynamic Routing
Automatically routers routing path, by exchanging information between routers using the tftp protocol
Dynamic algorithm categories:
| Distance Vector
| Link State
| Hybrid
A static routing tablecontains information entered manually.
A dynamic routing table is updated periodically using one of the dynamicrouting protocols such as RIP and OSPF
Static and Dynamic Routing
Static Routing Is a filling mechanism for the routing table manually performed by admin on
each router
The advantage:
Relieve existing processors work on router
No BW that used for the exchange of information between routers routing table contents
Higher security level vs. other mechanisms
Disadvantages:
Admin must know information of each connected router network
If there are any additions / changes to network topology admin must change the contents of the routing table
Unsuited for large networks
Dynamic Routing Routing protocol is communication between the routers
Routing protocol allows routers to share information about the network and the connection between the router
The router uses this information to build and improve its routing table
Routing protocol is different from the routed protocol.
Examples of routing protocols: Routing Information Protocol (RIP)
Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (IGRP)
Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP)
Open Shortest Path First (OSPF)
The objectives Routing Protocol The main purpose of routing protocols is to build and improve the routing
table.
This table contains the networks and network interfaces associated with the current network
Routers use routing protocols to manage information received from other routers and each interfaces, as occurred in the routing configuration manually
Routing protocol learn all that routers, putting the best route to the routing table, and also delete the route when the route is no longer valid.
The router uses the information in the routing table to pass the packets routed protocol
