CONTENTS International Congress “Fuels of the Future” is the leading event of the German biofuel sectors and an important forum for European players when it comes to discussing current is-sues in international biofuel policies, research and technolo- gical development. Looking at the situation regarding decisions in the European Parliament and in the EU Council of Energy Min-isters in respect to changing the Renewable Energy and Fuel Quality Directive, the Congress will be held at the right time to consider the upshot of the trilogue expected in the spring of 2015.
Germany is not only the most important lead market in the Euro-pean Union, but also a “pioneer” in the implementation of new funding policy framework conditions at the same time. The in-troduction of mandatory greenhouse gas reduction as a substi-tute for the previous energy biofuel quotas from the 1st January 2015 is being tracked with great interest at home and abroad. In future, efficiency and the costs of reducing the greenhouse gases of the relevant fuels will determine their market access. The greenhouse gas reduction of biofuels will gain importance for the sustainability certification, as only a minimum saving by 35 percent was to be complied with previously.
Raw material cultivation and processing are crucial for com-petitiveness. The step-by-step increase in the greenhouse gas reduction quotas is accompanied by a technological opening: It gives mineral oil companies the opportunity to reduce green-house gas emissions with electricity and savings in the produc-tion chain, for example. This will intensify competition between the various technologies for improving the climate balance. The certification quality and examination by the responsible bodies of the member states are therefore of great importance for fair competition.
You should consequently use the opportunity to discuss this and other points with German and EU politicians, international sector representatives as well as experts from science and re-search at the Congress.
The changes to the European biofuel policies controversially ne-gotiated in Brussels mean that all biofuel sectors are confront-ed by new challenges. A European fuel and mobility strategy ex-tending beyond 2020 is needed to establish reliable framework conditions for investors.
I am especially pleased to welcome our colleagues from Poland as a partner country in 2015. Poland is an important country with enormous potential for biofuel strategy in the European context.

Accompanying exhibition
Companies and associations successfully involved in the biofuel sector or which plan to enter the market have the opportunity to present themselves to the specialist public with an information stand thanks to the Congress. The Trade Congress has become firmly established over the years and is regarded as pioneering for European development. Exhi- bitors can advertise their products and services in the foyer and find their target group at this “market place”.
Gold and silver partners also have the opportunity to pre- sent themselves in the conference folder and media (web-site, sponsor board, break screen etc.) with the company logo as a partner to the Trade Congress.
Partner country PolandIn the foyer of the congress the partner country Poland will introduce the Polish market for biofuels with pres-entations by business representatives.

nature.tec 2015 – Trade Show Bioeconomics
The Trade Show nature.tec has become a permanent feature of the International Green Week over the past few years. The year 2015 represents a further step in this development for nature.tec. As the “Trade Show for Bioeconomics”, nature.tec will offer a significantly extended concept from 16th to 25th January 2015. The entire spectrum covering the energy and material utilisation of renewable raw materials will be presented under the umbrella of bioeconomics. All aspects of bioeconomics will be presented in Hall 5.2 a of the Messe Berlin around “The Plant”, located in the centre of the Trade Show. The subjects of cultivation, growing and raw material extraction along with the energy and material prod-ucts resulting from the plant will be exhibited in corresponding exhibition areas.
nature.tec – Trade Show for Bioeconomics provides the opportuni-ty to show what bioeconomics is, how it functions and where its fu-ture potentials lie, with consumers in mind. What is special about nature.tec: It is traditionally an ideal platform for contact and dialogue with politics. nature.tec 2014 confirmed this: To-gether with the traditional Experience Farm, the Trade Show is the central contact point for politicians and decision-makers. In addition 400,000 visitors – over 100,000 of these trade visitors – as well as more than 5000 accredited journalists form the target group of the Trade Show and its exhibitors.
More information on the trade fair: www.naturetec-igw.de
Evening receptionThe traditional get-together will form a bridge between the Trade Congress and nature.tec – Trade Show Bioeconomics on 19th Jan-uary 2015. In Hall 5.2a of the Messe Berlin, the participants and exhibitors along with representatives from science, business and politics with come together for an exclusive evening event from 19.00 hours onwards.
