FORTH is a semi-public Research Center.
The first three Institutes of FORTH were established in 1983.
Today, FORTH is one of the two largest Research Centers in Greece, having at the end of 2004 a personnel of 985 in its seven Institutes and an annual budget of ~ 35 M€, which includes 5.1 M€ from sales of products and services.
Only 22% of the budget is granted from the State (Regular Budget), 14% comes from the private sector and 46% comes from competitive international and national grants and 18% as matching funds.
