New Equipment & Systems Approval -Strail Rubber Level crossing

1. Determination of Need: Presently only 2 modular level crossing systems areapproved by ARTC. One is a concrete panel and the other is a steel levelcrossing surface. Alternatives are required so supply times and most costefficient prices can be obtained. Strail offers an acceptable alternative for lowvolume low speed (50Kph) level crossing. Modular systems allow quick andcheap track rectification as the panels can be removed. Normal concrete andbitumen surfaces do not have this advantage.The first crossing proposed to be installed is a double track on the Main South,Kowcumbla Rd, Cootamundra 430.700 Km. Kowcumbla Rd is a tarred mainstreet leading out of town. The road speed is 50 Kph and it is used mainly bycars and some trucks. The road is NOT a B double route. The level crossing isone lane each way and is approximately 9 m wide. Technical details for theStrail Modular panels are attached.
