What is Installation Planning?

• Installation planning is based on the equipment requirements,

observations and agreed decisions during the site survey. Installationplanning is used to achieve an efficient usage of installation materials, and for fast and flexible installation for every network element and sitein the project. The task is to define drawings for the construction worksand installation purposes.

• Site specific documentation generated in installation planning include:

• Installation material list

• Floor layout drawing showing the location of network elements, other equipment and cable ladder routes at the site

• Grounding, power, transmission and external cables relateddrawings

• Outdoor layout drawing for feeder, antenna and micro wave radioinstallations

• In wall and poleinstallation, cables shouldbe routed through thebottom cable entrywhenever possible.

The recommendations are more like exaggerated self-defence.

Installation principles• Only front cabling

• No separate grounding of Flexi BTS modules

• No front or rear covers to be installed when therack/cabinet has a door

-FCOA is in the picture

-When raining, some water may enter the cabinet through the door and back wall.

It is important that the water can exit via the holes on the cabinet floor. If the

cabinet is exposed to rain, it must be installed at least 20...50 mm off the groundby using, for example, an I-beam rail, metal grating or C-bars.

-FCOA can be equipped with an FCFA air filter. Basically, it over-pressurizes the

cabinet.

-Heating can be used to assist that in temperatures below -10C BUT there is no

heater unit in the Flexi BTS product structure. Below -10º C, the Dual TRX Module

heats itself, and the other modules function in the whole operational temperature

range.

Other Optional InstallationLegacy and 3rd party cabinet or rack requirements (1/2)

• 19-inch rack• Minimum depth of 600 mm (23.6 in.)

• Back air intake

• Front exhaust

• The recommended constant ambient temperature for modules installed inside the cabinet must be

-35 to +45ºC (-31ºF to +113ºF)

• 3rd party 19-inch racks must provide adequate grounding contact for modules. If the rack is rusty, dirty,

or painted, then module ground cables must be used.

• Make sure the 19-inch rack is made of material strong enough to support the weight of the modules (for

example sheet metal steel, aluminium extrusion). Check with the manufacturer for weight limitations.

• If the installation is a stand-alone rack (and no cabinet), Nokia Siemens Networks recommends that

module casings and covers are used for safety purposes.

• Also make sure the rack is securely mounted to the floor according to the manufacturer's instructions.

• If 3rd party screws are used for mounting the modules (for example, the rack requires M6 screws), the

screws must be at least 25 mm (1.0 in.) long.• If Flexi Multiradio BTS modules are installed in an outdoor legacy or 3rd party cabinet, the cabinet must

meet the environmental specifications of Flexi Cabinet for Outdoor (FCOA) without air filter.

Other Optional InstallationLegacy and 3rd party cabinet or rack requirements (2/2)

• A Flexi Multiradio BTS module is installed in thecabinet without the rear side and front sideplastic covers.

• In the rear side of the cabinet, the minimumdistance between the Flexi Multiradio BTScooling fans (measured from the fan plate) toany obstacle is 90 mm (3.5 in.).

• The air volume flow requirement for one FlexiBTS module is 200 m3/h.

• The pressure drop caused by the rear side walland front door (wall) for one module fan can atthe maximum be 25 Pa (including the combinedpressure drop for both walls) with an air volumeflow of 200 m3/h.

• The BTS power consumption must be taken intoconsideration when planning site cooling.

• The entire cabinet volume flow is dependent on

the number of modules used (for example, ifthree modules are used, the entire cabinetvolume flow is 810 m3/h (3*200 m3/h) and thepressure drop caused by the front and rear doormaximum 25 Pa).

Cooling requirements for Flexi Multiradio BTS modules in a legacy or 3rdparty cabinet

Module level cooling in a 3rd party cabinet

A minimum of 100 mm (3.9 in.) isrecommended from the rear side ofthe cabinet to the wall (or anyobstacle) to allow the required airflowrate to be reached for each module.

Feederless Site RequirementsOverview (2/2)

• For the optical cable connection can use:

• with multimode fiber cables can be up to 200 meters long

• with a single mode fiber can up to 40 km. – The longer cables are not delivered in fixed length but are made on the field based

on the required length.

– Characteristics of the optical OBSAI interface can be adapted to needs with the useof standard optical transceivers

• For the power supply distribution concept, can be fed to RF Module :

• Through the System Module – The 48 VDC power distribution cable can run up to 100 m for the RF module

– In this case, the System Module and the RF Module require separate over voltageprotection devices (FSEC).

• Using a remote power supply with AC or DC.

– The RF module has external alarm interfaces for the power supply and other genericalarms.

• Modules can be installed on a pole, wall,or floor.

The installation of the optical cable between the System Module and RF Module or

Remote Radio Head requires two small form-factor pluggable (SFP) optical

transceiver units (included in the RF Module delivery) that are plugged into both the

System and RF Module or Remote Radio Head.

A multimode adapter (included in the 100 m optical cable delivery) is required when

two optical cables are connected together. Optical cables are used for creating an

optical interface between the System and RF Module or Remote Radio Head. The

length of the cables is 50 m or 100 m. In case you need a cable of a specific length,

shorten the cable by cutting and splicing it to the required length.

Feederless Site RequirementsPower supply for Feederless sites

• The feederless site concept supports both AC and 48 V DC power

supply.

• Connect the power supply to each sector or base so that individual

sectors can be turned off for service without disturbing operation for

the rest of the BTS -> e.g. have a dedicated circuit breaker on site

support cabinet’s DIN rail for every local RF Module(s).

• For easier maintenance and fault investigation, it is recommended

that separate, fused DC input lines are used for the System Module

(ESMB/C), and each RF Module.

• Chaining can also used between RF modules when multiple RF

Modules are required in a sector.

Feederless Site RequirementsPower supply for Feederless sites –Grounding kit for DC cable

• If the Flexi Multiradio System Module (ESMB/C)is located more than 10 meters (32.8 ft.) from

the site support system in outdoor installations,

then the Flexi System Over Voltage Protection

(FSEC) (or other similar OVP) is required for the

DC power feed.

• Proper lightning protection of a remote RF

Module also requires proper grounding of its DC

feed cable -> grounding kit for the DC feed must

be used.

• Shrinking sleeves for ingress protection for the

peeled area of the cable is also required. These

are also included in the delivery.

Feederless Site RequirementsGeneral issues to be considered when installing the DC cables of thefeederless site

• In case of a power break, the BTS functions with batteries. The

output voltage of the batteries starts to decrease in time• The batteries should be installed in the proximity of the System

Module to minimize additional voltage drop before the RF Module.

• If the cables are under a protective cover, the temperature of thecables can increase. This increases the resistance of the cables andthe voltage drop is greater between the System Module and RFModule.

• The power dissipation of the DC cable adds to the powerconsumption of the site. Examples:

• Power dissipation with a RF module (with max. load of 3x60W) ofthe 100m DC cable is ~100 W when 25 mm2 is used and ~160

W when 16mm2 is used.

Feederless Site RequirementsDC Cabling Principles and Shielding

The basic procedure is to use a locally supplied standard DC cable.

DC cable extension:

• There is an additional NSN IP55 2m DC cable in the FSEC salespackage. By cutting both cables in one end and using IP55protection to both the RF and System Module they can be used for extending the DC cable distance.

• A long DC cable needs to be shielded and grounded.

• Connection of the long DC cable and NSN IP55 cable isrecommended to be done in an IP55 outdoor weather protectedspace, e.g. in Flexi External OVP box (FSEC).

• The FSEC clamping range is from 19 to 28 mm DC cable diameters.

Feederless Site RequirementDC cable requirements

1) If AC input power is used, these cables are the black 25 mm2 (4 AWG) DC

output cables pre-installed on the FPMA.

2) NOTE: proper lightning protection of a remote RF Module also requires

proper grounding of its DC feed cable. If the remote RF Module is installed on

a mast, the DC power feed cable must have a grounding jacket. A

grounding kit is also required.

Feederless Site RequirementDC cables and ESMB/C input voltage

• The DC cable used for power feed to remote RF Modules can be 16-35mm2 (6 -2 AWG), depending on the distance and minimum supply voltage

at System Module input.• See the table below for minimum input voltages when 3 RF Module (FXxx)

are connected to FR Modules and are transmitting at full power.

Note that not using the recommended cable thickness reduces battery backup

times.

Lightning protection requirements

• When the Flexi Multiradio BTS GSM/EDGE System Module (ESMB/C) is located more than 10 meters

(32.8 ft.) away from the site support system in outdoor installations, the Flexi System Over

Voltage Protection (FSEC) or other similar over voltage protection (OVP) box is required for the DCpower feed.

• An example of this when the Flexi Multiradio BTS is installed at the top of a mast and the site support

system is located at the bottom of the mast. In this case, the OVP for the site support system does

not protect the Flexi Multiradio BTS, therefore an FSEC or other OVP must be installed on or next to the

BTS.

Feederless Site RequirementFlexi System Over Voltage Protection (FSEC) OVP

• Overvoltage protections is required in installations with arisk of overvoltage by induction or indirect lightning(Class II): feederless and distributed installations

• FSEC protects Flexi BTS sub-modules against surgepulse(s) in power feeding lines.

• The FSEC gives Class II (C, T2) protection for DC powerfeed

– The same mechanics can also be used for AC linedevices, but the connectors and OVP devices need tobe changed.

• The FSEC box can also be used for altering the DC cablediameter

• FSEC connectors: screw terminals for input and outputcables. There are four pieces of screw terminals for AWG2 (35 mm2) cables and for earthing two PEs (Protecting

earth GND) terminals for AWG 2/35 mm2 cable size.• Can be installed on top of casings, cabinet roofs, or on

poles

Dimensions:

• Width 95 mm

• Height 155 mm

• Depth 155 mm

NOTE: FSEC can also be replaced with a locally purchased protecting box.

GSM ConfigurationWCDMA Configuration

WCDMA and GSM concurrent mode configurations

• Flexi Multiradio BTS is a multiradio BTS, which means that multiple radio technologies can be

used concurrently.

• The 3-branch RF Module supports GSM/EDGE and WCDMA simultaneously.

• The System Modules are separate for GSM/EDGE and for WCDMA.• The GSM/EDGE System Module (ESMB/C) supports up to 18 or 36 TRX capacity, that is, two 3-

branch RF Module capacity, and it has power and OPT connections for four radios (or radio

chains) or System Modules.

• In the concurrent mode, the RF Modules as well as the antenna lines can be shared between

the System Modules and different radio technologies.

• The System Modules have to be interconnected in concurrent operation.

• The Flexi Multiradio BTS is seen as a separate logical network element for different radio

technologies with common radio resources.

• In concurrent mode either ESMB/C or FSMx can be the synchronization master of Flexi

Multiradio BTS while the other is the slave.

• The operator can define the synchronization master while commissioning the BTS.

Antenna LineAntenna jumper cable requirements

Antenna jumper cable requirements:

• 1/2" or 3/8" antenna jumper cables can be used. 1/2"antenna cable connectors can be connected directly to themodule if a right angle connector is used.

• The length should be determined based on the FlexiMultiradio BTS GSM/EDGE installation option (forexample pole, wall, cabinet, 3rd party cabinet) and thedistance of the BTS from the antenna feeder line.

• Antenna jumper cables must be IP54-rated or better.

Basically, Jumper cables are low–loss and flexible, which allows easier

connection to units such as the WCDMA MHA unit without causing

unnecessary stress to the connected units (vs. feeder cables).
