Sizing the Image DatabaseThe image database is part of the NetBackup catalog. To size the image database: 1. Calculate the maximum number of files:# files per backup * # backup per retention period

2. Estimate the number of bytes:# of files * average length of files full path name

For binary catalogs, estimate 100 bytes per file.

3. Add 10-15 MB if running debug. 4. Allocate a single partition.9

Topic 5: Troubleshooting NetBackup Installation IssuesAfter completing this topic, you will be able to troubleshoot the most common NetBackup installation issues.

Common Installation Issues Ping the master server, media servers, and all clients by name. Start or communicate with NBU services. Ensure a match between ports and service entries on media servers, clients, and the master server.Verify that host communications are set up correctly.

Network/ Communication Issues

Host Communication Setup Misspelled or Incorrect Host Names

NetBackup requires reverse name lookup. UNIX hosts are case-sensitive.39
