Dear Mr. Seiberling:

First, let me assure you that my original approach to you was by no means motivated by any intention to earn a fee. I was interested only in extending a helping hand if at all possible.

The letters I have may or may not be of any value to you and the question of their value is one of date. I have a photostatic copy of a letter from Mrs. Guggenheim to Betty Parsons wh o wa s handling her art interests in New York dated November 1, 1948 in which she states:

"I would very much appreciate a note from you stating your estimate of the big mural as I intend to give it to a Museum in the States and want to deduct it from my income tax- What is it worth in your opinion? Please make it as high as you can-"

A copy of Betty Parsons' reply dated December 7, 1948 fixes the value at $3,000 and on January 16, 1949 Mrs. Guggenheim writes to Miss Parsons suggesting that that figure is too low.

As you can the mural was not identified. been your institution but you to know this than I.

I am sure too that you are aware of the specific mention of the donation to your University on Page 106 of Mrs. Guggenheim's book "Confession of an Art Addict" (MacMillan 1960).

Please let me know whether you would be interested in copies of the letters mentioned above.
