Aims:The aim of this module is to enable students to understand how managers operate in organisations in an international context. It will cover the development of management and theories explaining organisational behaviour. Students will develop the ability to analyse the strengths and weaknesses of various management theories.
Learning Outcomes:On completion of this module, the successful student will be able to:

1. Understand the contribution that leadership and management make to organisations.
2. Understand the key differences that exist between different management schools of thought.
3. Understand the key internal variables impacting upon organisations’ work (e.g. culture, motivation, personality) and be aware of how theory links to practical outcomes associated with the management of people and organisations.
Skills This module will call for the successful student to:
4. Write an academic piece of work and critically discuss an issue related to management and organisations.
5. Apply research skills of investigation and collection of information/data.

Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy:This module will employ a variety of learning and teaching methods. Didactic workshops will provide students with an introduction to a number of theories and concepts relating to management and organisational behaviour. In addition, tutor directed student discussions will promote students awareness of the link between theory and practice and will provide opportunities for formative feedback. Video presentations will enhance the student learning experience by engaging students with the latest ideas surrounding the subject. The module’s on-line environment will contain all lecture slides and regular online activities to complete on Moodle any additional learning material required for this module.
The assessment for this module is 100% coursework, split as follows: Academic essay 50%2 Online test 30%Portfolio Participation 20%
