A Stormy Day
Gordon watched the summer sky grow darker while his mom and dad prepared for the thunderstorm that was coming. Gordon knew that thunderstorms could be fierce and dangerous. His neighbors had lost part of their roof and some big trees fell over the year before. Gordon’s neighbors were lucky because no one got hurt, not even their dog, Bruno.
Gordon heard the wind getting louder and saw the trees bending. Then, he heard thunder in the distance. Soon, a flash of lightning lit up the sky. He was not very worried, though, because his family was well prepared. Gordon had made sure all the water bottles were full in case there was no clean water to drink after the storm. His dad carried enough blankets and pillows to the shelter to keep their family warm and comfortable. His mom brought flashlights, a portable radio, and extra batteries. Just then, they heard rain on the roof.
“Ready to go down?” asked Dad. When Gordon’s family got into their shelter, they turned on the radio. They heard that the Storm was not getting stronger and that there was no danger after all. Even though Gordon was safe in the shelter, he was glad to hear the radio announcement.
“Well, we got ready for nothing,” Gordon said. “No,” Dad said. “It’s always better to be safe than sorry.”
